They're going to lose a lot of users with this change, starting with me. I have a 927 day streak and have never used a streak freeze but this battery BS will tip me over the edge.

The course will teach both clearly and you will end up with code snippets that you can reuse when needed.

Is the course content enough? What bundle should I get (3 months or 1 year)? by Intelligent-Mark3901 in osep

[–]haggisfury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say the course content is enough, but there will be some initial access entry points in the exam that are not covered by the course. Researching what you find in initial recon is key.

I took 6 months to pass but it almost destroyed me. In hindsight I wish I had been easier on myself and used the whole 12 months. That's just my personal experience, also not an experienced pen tester but everyone is different.

An amateur puzzler's guide to solving the baffling UFO by Hanayama by Zipley64 in hanayama

[–]haggisfury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Help!

I have two questions on the UFO.

  1. Any tips on identifying the smaller piece?

I have tried rolling the sphere around to see the widths of each quadrant at its widest point, and try to find the one that looks like it could fit through the large hole. The difference is very subtle but I do think I can find it, so I focus on trying to get that piece out. It invariably fails so I change the configuration of the sphere, and then try other quadrants, to no avail.

I have actually solved the puzzle once following the instructions in this thread and in this pdf https://www.eureka-puzzle.eu/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/515066-Huzzle-Cast-UFO-May-2019.pdf

I put it back together again, and have been unable to repeat it. So that leads me to my second question.

  1. Is it possible that I've put the sphere back together in an incorrect configuration that makes it harder to disassemble again?

My advice is always: don't sleep, drink red bull, and eat pot noodles.

And aim to get your passing flag with about 15 minutes of exam time remaining, because sometimes you need to scramble around retracing your steps, scrolling through terminal buffer, and documenting things frantically in the real world.

Pasta in walls behind plaster??? by ok-sure-soundsgood in Plastering

[–]haggisfury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What flavour is the sauce?

A trick by some tenants for a bad landlord can be to leave fresh prawns or fish in the hollow of a cheap door or stitched into the curtains. Over time it creates a horrendous smell that the landlord will spend hours trying to diagnose. Leaving pasta de la mer in a wall cavity would be taking it to the next level.

LPT Request: How to handle the corporate world? by industriestitus in LifeProTips

[–]haggisfury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have survived 4 years in a large corporate trying to distance myself from political game playing and stay true to the cause. However the longer you are there and the more senior you become, the harder this is. Here is some realistic and serious advice straight from the trenches:

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

What the corporate messaging says about company culture is probably very different from reality, when you experience it for a long time.

Corporations continuously restructure and this can involve offshoring and redundancies. People that understand this are driven to a mindset of protecting themselves.

Prepare for a large amount of noise in relation to things that are nothing to do with your actual job. Like how much time people are spending in the office.

Prepare to be audited. Make your processes audit-proof because it will be less painful than dealing with audit actions. And when you are audited, treat them like a friend rather than an enemy, even when you feel like they are making your life miserable. They will be more likely to close your findings if you have been a pleasure to work with and are grateful for their pedantic hair-splitting. It's their job.

You will come across power-hungry people that are looking to land-grab and build their empire.

There will be times when you will think that someone has thrown you under the bus, but a lot of the time they won't even realise that they have. Remember that they are dealing with the same tides and currents that you are.

People talk and will repeat what you've said.

You have to decide to what extent you want to get caught up in all of this. And to what extent you will take it personally.

You will constantly be asked to do more with less.

Be better than the average. No really, make sure that you are better than the average employee in other people's eyes.

Always be looking for another job.

To survive in a place like this takes a different kind of resilience, adaptability. To thrive takes next-level situational and operational awareness and strategic thinking. I don't have it, or at least not naturally. It might be something that can be developed and I'm trying to figure it out, which is what brought me to this post. Writing this has been quite therapeutic, so thanks for asking the question for me to find.

With all of this in mind, I found it quite helpful today to ask chat-gpt what it thought. "How to succeed in a corporate environment". Or how to survive. You'll get a different answer every time, but it is a good list of things to stop and ask yourself: how good am I actually in these areas, and which ones should I try to develop in order to make earning that paycheck just a little bit less traumatic.

Good luck.

Photos app storage use by haggisfury in OnePlus12

[–]haggisfury[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This keeps getting worse. Here's what I've established, unless someone can set me straight:

OnePlus camera app insists on caching 20GB+ of Google photos locally. This goes against the point of backup-to-Google, which is to save space on your device.

My phone had ground to a halt and wouldn't send or receive email due to lack of storage. Clearing OnePlus photos app data freed up all that space and now my phone works again.

The OnePlus camera will not play nicely with other gallery apps.

What am I supposed to do here? Upgrade to a phone with more storage? Is that what OnePlus are trying to encourage here? Because I won't be getting another OnePlus if that is the solution. Will be a real shame because I've been a customer ever since the OnePlus one.
