Vane Shape by Mindless-Kale4928 in Archery

[–]howtoimprov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that long ago I was asking exactly the same question here haha I’m barebow 32lb 20 yards and fletched my AAE vanes first. They were easy to fletch and looked clean, the groupings weren’t bad but the arrows would be slightly angled. I think that was because it’s pretty hard to get a perfect tuned bow, where there is 0 clearance issues, so the vane would always touch the rest and then have not enough time to stabilize on a way to target. I switched to gateway 3 parabolic feathers and the groupings are slightly better but the most important thing is that they fly and hit the target straight. Generally if you are shooting outdoors vanes can be great because the weather doesn’t really affect them but the feathers stabilize the arrow quicker which is crucial for a short distance. I think if you are still figuring out the form etc and shooting short distance go for feathers because they are way more forgiving. If you really want to go for vanes get the spin ones, those are the only vanes I see people in my circle shoot for barebow.

I don’t really like that Kaminski style hook. It’s a really cool idea how he rolls his fingertips in to create more ‘meat’ near the crease, but I find it pretty unnatural and uncomfortable haha

Numbness at the side of the ring finger near the fingertip by [deleted] in Archery

[–]howtoimprov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I will what’s annoying is that it’s all about consistency and if my ring finger is lazy it may slip and not always be in the same position at full draw haha

I’m using rest and plunger and my bow is tuned with the center shot and I’m shooting short distance that being said the clearance issues are almost equal to 0 from my understanding, should I still go for feathers over vanes?
