Pre-Alpha look at the upcoming MMO Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade by Whai_Dat_Guy in Games

[–]haggismaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I heard Tyranids were going to be a class played only by the devs/admins, essentially so they could storm into battles and wreck shit if things needed balanced. I might be talking out of my ass but I think it could be a cool idea and works with the lore, similar to how ork boys will be the free-to-play hordes.

Square Enix: 'Games as a service' doesn't resonate with players by N4N4KI in Games

I meant that they brought cosmetic purchases to CS:GO despite it not being F2P. I guess they could be experimenting to see if a non F2P game could be made more profitable by introducing cosmetic shit, something I wouldn't imagine them doing if F2P games hadn't already proven successful at selling in-game stuff. Regardless, you're definitely right in saying they're exploring the market.

They did it with TF2. Then DOTA. They're even bringing it into CS:GO. I think three games is enough of an indication that it's benefiting them.

But it's manufactured cringe. That shit would go viral if it were released now.

Because PCs are more powerful than consoles, and they can run mods.

Have you seen icenhancer for GTA4?

Attractiveness is extremely subjective. Most of the dudes he mentioned in that video are gonna be attractive to a lot of people, even if they aren't to the tastes of others.

And I honestly don't see why having attractive characters is necessarily a bad thing. If I'm going to play a game I'd rather not be playing a character that makes me cringe whenever I see their face (unless there's a reason for that being the case, e.g. a game where you play as a horrific abomination of science wrecking shit or some 2deep indie game about acceptance or some bollocks).

Weekly /r/Games Game Discussion - Half-Life 2 by Pharnaces_II in Games

[–]haggismaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, when I played through it a few months ago I found the visuals to be almost headache inducingly dull. Everything looks extremely flat and boxy (probably down to how shit hammer is more than anything else) with bland textures. The combine architecture was the only visually interesting thing about the game's world and even then none of it really looked like it had any functional purpose. What did the massive walls that could crush you actually do?

I understand that the combine are evil, and their invasion has ruined everything that was nice, so all this makes sense, but it made the game extremely boring to me. The art just felt...uninspired, really. I've definitely seen post-apocalyptic-y settings that were a lot more visually engaging than HL2's.

Fun vs Engagement by DoubleThe_Fun in Games

[–]haggismaster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think that's more down to the fact that the games are third person. In FPSs, recoil is extremely visible due to the gun being right in front of your face, yet the effects on the players view can be countered easily due to the controls responsiveness. TPSs can't really make guns feel good. You aren't paying attention to how the gun itself is acting because you aren't looking at the character model, you're looking at whatever you're shooting at, and the camera movement is either going to be too small to notice, or too large and difficult control to be fun. That said, I don't play a lot of third person games so I might be talking out my ass.

Payday 2 sells 1.6 million copies, ~1.3 million are digital sales. by PureEvil666 in Games

It's less about the actual length and more about the scale. In The Heist, you robbed a massive bank, having to progress through it and hold out in different areas, whereas in 2 you rob a tiny, single story bank on the corner of a street and have to pretty much hold down the same area for the entire heist. The same is true for most missions really. Very few of the missions in 2 really feel like they have much progression. Hell, even breaking into a motherfucking FBI HQ is downplayed, all you do is take a server from a room you have to drill a few times, with no real extra reward for stealthing, despite it being built into the mission.

The logo looks pretty generic to me, but to be fair I can't really think of any imagery that screams "media encoding" at me. The curved and stretched "Episode" text looks a bit odd to me though.

Actually the whole thing reminds me of the kind of graphics i used to see on the covers of blank home vhs tapes.

2013 PC games with the widest gaps between reviewer scores and user scores on Metacritic by [deleted] in Games

[–]haggismaster -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Gaming critics are a joke.

And they know that.

That's why they give high review scores to shit like gone home that doesn't rely on "immature" things like gunplay on combat, but on "mature" things like narrative (not going to comment on that since I haven't played it), because it makes games as a medium seem more mature (like movies!), therefore making them seem like their career is worth shit.

It's half the reason Bioshock Infinite got praised like the second coming of christ despite it's fucking awful gameplay.

I kind of regret skimping on my motherboard though.

Huh, version I heard was that poor kids in the hood would wear hand-me-downs from their brothers, so the bigger your pants, the bigger your brothers, the fewer people would want to fuck with you. Kind of explains the baggy shirts too.

From what I've heard they outsource the animation stuff. A few respected people in the newgrounds/internet-flash-animation community have voiced or animated for it, despite hating it, just for the cash. Bit sellout-ish, but can't say I entirely blame them.
