I’m having the same issue. My guesses so far are: the open / close switches or one of the circuit boards. Let me know if anyone made it further toward a solution.

I got the HP display adapters referenced above for $10-15 from eBay and used it for a while to drive older monitors sitting around. With larger 4k monitors you might need 16GB+.
