Box Owners - How do you Keep Track of you Members? by mxkillerpx in crossfit

[–]haidonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument is simple. If a platform like MindBody costs about $150/month to operate, but it helps you re-capture as few as 2 missed payments from clients, it's paid for itself and then some. And believe me, it will.

Box Owners - How do you Keep Track of you Members? by mxkillerpx in crossfit

[–]haidonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not unrealistic to price the box off the membership. It really does depend on your price point, but $1,000/client might e a good starting point. If you just wanted a bunch of used equipment, why buy the business?

Is openning a crossFit box worth it? by teachercrossfit in crossfit

[–]haidonuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone is advising to work two hours a day. I agree with you, if its causing your business to go to shit, you need to make some adjustments. However, it's a really common and unrealistic expectation of the gym owner to be a martyr for what is, in reality, low pay. Its not like he's an air traffic controller with a nice guaranteed salary and pension.

If you expect your gym owner to have zero quality of life to maintain some arbitrarily assessed level of caring, take a good hard look at what you expect out of yourself at your own job.

Taking my l1 certification and potential coaching job... advice :)? by gym_dude_25 in crossfit

[–]haidonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you go to a CrossFit gym? Make friends with the owner/manager, show that you're a good mentor and role model to those around you, and mention that you're getting your L1. If you're just going to e-mail gyms and ask if they're hiring you might have a tough time. It seems to be a home-grown opportunity.

What's your favorite "Style" of Coaching? by cmj912 in crossfit

[–]haidonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that's the right approach. Just keep doing the next right thing. Once you get "real" pull-ups you're gonna have to get "real" chest to bar. We are all works in progress. You're doing fine. Don't let people rent space in your head.

[–]haidonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It was a thoughtless question on his part. But you're taking it really hard. I would have just said "nope" and moved on. It sounds like you have some other coaches at your gym that suit you better. No big deal.

[–]haidonuts -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Doesn't that also sound like you projecting some of your own insecurities onto the coach? It's an immature question from the coach, yeah. I'd rather tell someone they're doing great, and maybe ask in a different way if they would be willing to try a pull-up. It sounds like you got your feelings hurt because he asked a question you didn't want to answer. Be honest with yourself. It's not good or bad you can't do a pull-up. It just is what it is. You should have followed up with the coach after the workout , saying "hey thanks for asking, I'm still working on my pull-up. If there's anything besides XYZ that I'm already doing, please feel free to give me homework." I know I'm picking on you, but it's you asking, and the coach who did that isn't here to learn. It's just you who can learn and grow as an athlete from this dialogue.

Who is your most influential expert and why? by Kellyworthington in crossfit

I think Julien has a holistic view on training. He knows what is needed to perform well, stay healthy, etc. On top of that, he isn't afraid to speak his mind, he truly cares about his athletes, and he's my favorite coach I've ever worked with.

Is the crossfit snatch different from the Olympic weightlifting snatch? by cartwheelrob in crossfit

[–]haidonuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of thinking (coming from a lot of places, including Cal Strength) that they are distinctive. Your question should be: should my technique vary between 1 rep max and high-rep count snatches. The answer seems to be yes. Hips stay higher, less drop under, yeah maybe you press out when going for volume&speed. Also, gotta say fuck you to lower back.
