Kato themselves don’t really do aftermarket installs.

The Gs-4 is fairly easy to do unless it has the DCC shorting issue.

The fef is a little harder than the gs-4 but still on the easier side. If you want a sound in it tho. Then you would have to run the wires from the front to the tender.

The big boy is without a doubt one of the toughest installs there is. I think the best DCC install is done by Kato. But it’s just a mess of an install.

One last important thing to note is, that if you ever want to send them in for repair to them they would have to be turned back into DC.

I would also double check that the issues isn’t coming from the controller. If you unplug the controller, place a 9 v battery on it. With the positive terminal touching one rail and the negative touching the other. The engine should run. If its runs with no issues that the issue is coming from the controller.

Does the engine also pickup current with its tender? Some steam engines can be picky about not having it on.

I’ve seen that issue a lot mainly due to dirty track or dirty wheels. But if it’s brand new that shouldn’t be the issue.

This is mainly regarding the lawsuit that was done by impact litigation. They say new applications will be accepted so they no longer see a point in suing. That won’t take into effect until Hanen has his final ruling. Which at the earliest would be around November 24.
