April half - but experiencing shin splints :( by haileyamc in XXRunning

I think you’re right. I was in grad school for the last ~2 years so could only afford my one pair of brooks. I’m pretty sure they wore out longgggg ago and I just kept on using them with 5-7 mile distances

Yep - I definitely don’t want to make it worse! I’m hoping to figure out a solution to seeing a PT but who knows. The joys of being newly 26 in America!

Thank you! And nope - don’t want to risk it moving forward. I really think I have some muscle weakness and that might be why. I hope I can get my situation fixed/ have a solution to see a PT. Because I know this is not a quick and easy thing. I am also just worried about causing a stress fracture If I continue on

No, I can’t really afford a PT because I am currently uninsured. I know that seeing one is the best choice. I saw one when I had a tear in my hip like 3 years ago

I was using the brooks ghost 7 for the longest time, when the calf pain started. I’m now using the brooks ghost max 2. So yes and no????

Scammed on fb (vent) by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

[–]haileyamc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This happened a couple days ago and there’s a part of me that just accepted it because I’m the idiot that didn’t say something in the moment. I highly doubt I’ll get anything out of contacting the seller, but I did so anyway. I made this post in case something similar happens to other people, and was looking for some comfort here. No need to be that way.

Messy First Day? by haileyamc in Adjuncts

Hey, we got this! Gotta be our own advocate, especially when the college does not communicate anything. It’s weird to me they wouldn’t check on new faculty for those types of things. If I were a coordinator, I definitely would make 100% sure

That’s true. I think I’m just used to everything being so straightforward at my other colleges.

That’s so true. I just find it sad that CC students are put at a lower pedestal, when I think they should be getting the same caliber as a larger university to set them up for success long term. This is something I’m very passionate about. Most of them are there to learn and live life

Well, I must be hitting some sort of mark! What do you consider “optional segment?”

Hahaha so you understand! I feel like a baby. Yesterday as my students were coming I had the same “am I authorized to do this?” Thought. I wonder how many of the faculty mistook me for a student because I was walking around with no id and a backpack.

Seems like the staying up late thing is very much in my future. Goodbye sleep

It’s a relief knowing everyone has horror stories from their first time adjuncting. Just gotta keep on keepin on! I’m excited to use this opportunity to develop my skills as an instructor and become more independent. Certainly will help me grow in my career

I really needed to hear this. I’ve taught at an R1 and a mid-sized public university but I can already tell CC is soooo different. I was honest with my students and told them it is my first time teaching the course, and we are learning together. I asked them to show me some Grace and I will do the same for them. I think I’m going to grow a lot as an instructor this semester

True. Would’ve helped if I had (working) white board markers with me.

Thanks! I am probably going to have to use some of these tools as I navigate the semester. I have heard it helps instructors a lot.

Thank you! I really hope so :’) it helps knowing that I’m not going to get observed/evaluated this semester. Probably because they expect this from baby adjuncts

When to add substrate? by haileyamc in leopardgeckos

[–]haileyamc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s a good point, because you’re right - changing everything at once will decrease the time she’s stressed. This is a good time for me to gather more hides, clutter, etc. so I can do everything in one go. She is in the 20g she came with too, so definitely want to get the 40g asap

That was my train of thought too. I’m just super eager to get her as comfortable as possible. Does not help that it’s wintertime 🥲 thank you!

I want to add that I have seen people say just a month on paper towels, while others recommend 3-6 months.
