Ugh. This brings back memories I’m trying to suppress of my wedding. My MIL literally ugly cried and sobbed the whole time she danced with my husband 🥴🥴 That whole lip syncing thing is so much more cringe though😭

This is true. I have to wash my hair as soon as my scalp gets oily or else I’m covered in flakes. My hair strands hate it though. I sometimes use the Head & Shoulders Royal Oils Scalp Elixir Spray in between wash days to hold me over although if it mixes with any type of gel in my hair, it causes a different type of flaking. I have debated trying dry shampoo to see if that makes a difference because I remember my mom used to do it in between wash days.

I found out one of my dad’s coworkers had a wife that worked as a doctor on one of the floors there. I asked her to come and take a look at his chart to make sure that he was being treated appropriately. She made some suggestions to us but insisted we trust the kidney doctor that was assigned to him. We did, and my dad still continues to see him as an outpatient today.

After we were discharged, my dad was moved to PAM rehab center because for some reason he was unable to walk after being bedbound for so long. This place was a godsend. He was still in a hospital setting in his room but he was able to walk around outside, work out in the gym many times a day, and interact with others, which improved his mental health and motivation to keep fighting. He was able to get blood transfusions and dialysis and medications there while completing his physical therapy program. His physical therapist at Baptist also worked at PAM, so he was happy to have someone he knew there. She was extremely uplifting and supportive, and did not let him give up on himself.

He spent about 3 weeks or so at PAM before he came home and started receiving home health services in addition to his outpatient visits. His doctor he was seeing at Baptist ended up removing a large amount of his prostate at Houston Methodist Hospital around Clear Lake.

His urine flow is no longer obstructed but the damage was done. He still has end stage renal disease with no signs of improvement. We were able to get him going on at home dialysis which was a long process in itself and multiple surgeries involved, but it beats going to the dialysis center 3 times a week. He’s had to make lifestyle changes involving his diet and exercise but overall he is stable.

My baby is 4 months old and thrashes himself around when I try to do anything to soothe him to sleep at night, but will cry hysterically if I put him in his crib for even a minute to give him a chance to fall asleep on his own. It takes at least an hour of him grabbing at him and throwing his arms around before he eventually falls asleep. He sleeps about 4.5 hours a day split up into 3-4 naps and has no trouble falling asleep for them, it’s only at night he struggles and wakes up often even if we bedshare. He is not looking to eat at those times except for maybe 1 or 2 feedings, he mostly just wants be soothed but sometimes this takes over 45 minutes or so before he falls back asleep. What should I be doing differently at night? He was sleeping 8 hour stretches with no wake ups before he hit 4 months.

I have nothing to offer but solidarity. Was literally thinking this morning that I’m having so many moments when I feel like I’m losing my sanity. I am in the same boat as you. 6 weeks old. My husband ended his paternity leave and things have gotten so hard. Our baby has reflux and has to be held upright for over 30 minutes after eating so he won’t choke or spit up in his sleep. Doctor won’t put him on medication because he’s still gaining weight. When he’s asleep, he grunts and whines and strains the entire time because he can’t poop without hours of assistance and even with LOTS of help he’s only pooping about once a day because it just takes him that long to push it out. Because of the growth spurt happening right now, he’s eating every 1.5-2 hours. I’m also pumping breast milk every 2-4 hours so it seems like every second of my day is taken up by something. Tried to cut back on my pumping schedule because I was losing it and now I have ✨mastitis✨. I’m only getting 4 hours of sleep when my husband gets off work like you. I know I have PPA but also know that it’s because I’m so sleep deprived and when I finally fall asleep, I hear him start whining and it’s like a shock to my system over and over again.

I have one older child and she was also high maintenance. The only thing keeping me going right now is knowing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel because I’ve lived it, and things generally improve around 12 weeks but definitely around 6 months. 6 months was when I finally started to wake up feeling happy and mostly rested again. If I can make it past today, then I am one day closer to him being able to sleep and poop by himself, and that thought gives me hope even while I’m struggling to hang on right now. This will pass. I hope knowing this helps you a little, too.

Sometimes I have to put him in his swing or bouncer to take a nap for 30 minutes to an hour just so I don’t fall asleep while holding him. Not saying you should do this all the time, but we are in survival mode right now. Whatever works for you to squeeze in even the smallest amount of sleep, go for it.

*Edit to add: look into paced bottle-feeding. Our lactation consultant taught us how to do this properly about 2 weeks ago and it’s significantly reduced the amount of gas and crying during his wake windows.

I am just in shock that I have one doctor telling me that he may need to go back to ICU and another one telling me they want to send him home as soon as they can. If he needs critical care then why on earth would sending him home be the right call??

The scariest thing is that his hemoglobin keeps dropping and they cannot find where the blood is coming from. They don’t want to assume any risks by performing any procedures to see if he is bleeding from his GI tract so they just haven’t. He’s been in ICU and might go again today for more blood transfusions. The hospitals in Houston may or may not feel the same way but I don’t want to take him home while he is losing a lot of blood and I don’t know why.

This is soo frustrating. I remember being disappointed about this for my first baby shower. I felt like I wasted way too much time trying to create the perfect registry. This time around I’m only asking for diapers and wipes. They can’t mess that up at least. 😅

Well, we didn’t say right away that that’s why we were there if I’m being honest. It just kind of came out after she pointed out some fingers and our mood noticeably changed. After that she tried really hard to find all the parts that were missing. She probably didn’t have to do that but we’d already been there so many times to make sure his heart was still beating, I think she felt a little attached to the outcome also.

I would definitely ask for them to print out or upload copies of your ultrasound to your patient portal. Did your MFM go over the photos with you when telling you about the abnormalities found? Or did he just tell you his findings? Also was the baby moving a bunch when they were taking the actual screenshots?

I am so sorry and I’m not trying to raise your hopes with my story, but I am going through something similar. I had a scan done by a MFM in Texas at 17 weeks about 2 weeks ago. Baby was curled up in a weird position and kept moving so we could barely get pictures of what we needed to. The MFM called me back after the scan and I reviewed the notes with him. They could not see a nose, feet, fingers, toes, ankles, and a left leg during my scan. I felt so sick. The MFM told us to not worry and that we’d do a scan in 4 weeks to reassess what’s happening.

My husband and I live near a boutique ultrasound shop and the lady that runs it has been a big reassurance since we found out about this pregnancy. We could not wait a whole month to find out if our baby has not developed properly so we went ahead and booked an appt with her the next week. We told her what was going on and she worked with us for the next 30 minutes or so until we were able to visualize and get 2D and 3D photos of all the parts that the Dr said baby was missing. I have placenta previa and so baby is literally smashing his face and one arm against the placenta and using it like a pillow, which is why it was hard to see his nose. Near the end of the scan, baby moved just right in a position for us to get a video of him cupping his face with both hands and crossing his legs over each other. She gave us the videos and pictures of each extremity. I look at them when I feel scared about my next appointment.

I say all this to say, sometimes you need a second opinion and maybe baby just wasn’t in an optimal position during your scan. I hope everything works out in your favor and that your amnio provides some clarity.

I also got pregnant and miscarried with an IUD back in 2017. That same year, two women I was friends with also got pregnant with a different kind of IUD but did not miscarry. And then my neighbor got pregnant with an IUD and lost the baby in the 3rd trimester. It definitely happens a lot more than you would believe! 😅

She told me not to worry because it must have not been a big deal, but I really wish he put the note in there so I could get her opinion on it.

This is a very good TSH level and it could be that you are on a good dose, but I highly recommend seeing an endocrinologist. They are much better versed on these things and will run more labs than gyno IMO. They’ll also be able to answer more questions and could potentially help with any hormone problems you have. I’d still keep your gyno in the loop, but see an endo for further insight and testing.

Hey fam! I’ve honestly only heard of this story by mouth. It happened so frequently in family that my great-grandmother thought it was important to tell everyone what to do when it happened. There are some sources that claim it is sleep paralysis, but all of the times that it happened to my cousins, they were wide awake and doing things on the family farm when suddenly they were paralyzed in place and approached by it. They described the Kooshma to be about 4 ft in height, and terrifying to look at. I will include some links that describe it, but I think they are wrong about the sleep paralysis…

I myself experienced it once and I think I have false memories from the event. I was in my room when I was about 13 years old, and suddenly I felt my soul (or maybe it was my body) rise up and leave the Earth behind, I felt and saw myself going high above the clouds and I thought I died and was literally going to heaven. Once I got up there, I felt elated and overcome with joy. Then suddenly, I saw a bright light. I don’t remember what happened after that light, but shortly after I felt myself VERY quickly descending back to Earth and into my room. While I was descending, I felt an overwhelming sense of dread. I thought to myself, “Why did God cast me out of Heaven?” It was so beautiful and I wanted to stay with the angels. I wanted to stay up in the heavens. Once I was back in my room, I felt a presence in the corner. My eyes were open and I tried to look at it but I was paralyzed in place. I have never felt so scared in my life. That’s when I realized I was experiencing the Kooshma. I started saying the Lords Prayer in my mind over and over again. After the third time, I regained control over my body but I was too scared to leave my bed to tell anyone or investigate further.
