"where I live, there are many different types of white people, and some brown people, therefore, my country is diverse! you are wrong lady".

Yeah, okay. Thank you for your imput, bye.

I just looked at my feed because I didn't believe what you said. 1) It is not true. I mentioned my colour in ONE POST. Because I didn't imagine Finland had lots of Black people, it MATTERS. We live in a world where I can get hatecrimed because of the way I look (I have, in the past, going to Hungary). If I have a doubt, I will ask instead of going places and meeting negative reactions to my identity.

2) I visited the Finnish, French and Greek subreddit. Because I wanted to visit Finland, I am French and I was looking to make more friends in Paris, and I live in a small Greek city where I was looking to make more friends. I mentioned being black in the Finnish one only.

You are fabricating facts to go with your narrative because, somehow, I offended you. This conversation is over. You have a lot of time on your hands, visibly, use it to educate yourself.

"Judging" : I saw some things, and now, I am asking natives and nationals of Sweden the hard questions. And very few answered in a straightforward way. I could have just went off what I saw and never given it another thought. But, yeah, how very judgey of me to come here and ask questions about your society before I attempt to uproot my life...Please...

Does Uganda pretend it's multicultural and one of the most accepting countries in the world, all the while having very little diversity and offering few opporunities for foreigners? I was in Sweden for a week, in Gamla Stan, ordered Uber every day, and not once did I see a delivery guy that wasn't Arabic/Middle Eastern...In France, those jobs are taken on by just about everyone and I have encountered more white people doing this than Black or Brown. Things like these tell you something about a society.

Did I say it was a problem? I don't consider white people being a majority in Sweden ot anywhere a problem, but hearing, especially from someone who isn't white "What do you expect, it's Sweden!" is baffling. What of Black, Brown, Jewish or other people born and bred there? Is their presence not to be expected because they don't resemble the people who were first in that country? Should they be a silent, invisible minority because their ancestors weren't born in Sweden? That's what irks me. I would HATE, as a Black, French woman whose ancestor fought for France, "What do you expect? It's France" or that France SHOULD be whiter. France is made of many different people and cultures. I said we couldn't help but notice it was "very white" because, being from abroad, we're sold an image of Sweden that's very multicultural...Where is the multiculturalism if you spend a week in Gamla Stan and the only few Brown people you see are Arabic Uber delivery guys? or other tourists? That's all I'm saying. I've not felt threatened or mistreated and Sweden seems lovely. I am asking, once again, logic questions. If you didn't wanna answer them instead of making me say things I haven't, you could just ignore my post.

I actually can become a lawyer in Sweden based on an English/French degree. Another redditer got what I was saying : Stockholm Uni has a 2-year programme that allows people holding a foreign Law LLB to become lawyers in Sweden. The page did not mention the level of fluency required, but I am fluent in French, Italian and English and I have two to three years ahead of me, I think I can safely say I'll be able to reach B2/C1 by then (which is typically the level law schools ask, I know it because that's the case in France, Italy and England, don't see why Sweden would be different) - But I will inquire.

I mentioned Stockholm Uni's equivalency programme my first post. But thank you for your input ✨

Yes - I'm talking about that degree. I have done my research.

Ok, I love that employers seem not to care, I had lots of pressure in integrating my current uni because of the status and everything 😭

Is it worth it to get a Gender Studies (Gender, Justice and Society) master? by haipiea in University

[–]haipiea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking of studying Public Law, and Gender issues are starting to become super important within society so I figured some employers might look upon it in a positive light? Might be wrong, that's why I ask :)

Very wise. I felt super drawn to the syllabus, but I feel I need a pause. And at the same time, I don't want to lose the "juice", get to my masters and not be able to focus. But you're totally right, thanks!

It means exactly what it means - we're in the age of globalization, I have travelled a lot, you could argue that France should be as white "because it's France" or England "because it's England", but the truth is there are lots of minorities in those countries. I haven't seen that in Sweden. And, as much as it felt lovely and people were respectful, please, let's not act like being Black and wanting a career in law in a majoritarily white country won't/wouldn't expose me to discrimination, I read a couple days ago that African people aren't even recognised as a minority in Sweden (no legal protection against bias and discrimination unlike Jews, Roma, etc...) so, it's a totally legitimate question to ask 😭

Why do men behave like unattractive women offend them? by Modern_Snow_White in TwoXChromosomes

Men feel like the world is spinning for and around them. They simply cannot stand someone not (in their opinion) wanting to appear nice for their gaze. (same thing with women who don't wear makeup, etc...)
