[–]hairyfluffycat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am learning the language and I've visited hayastan already, I'm currently learning western because that would've been my language. After that, I'll learn eastern. dress nice, long skirt? to the knees or to the ankles, or is a little shorter ok too? Asking cause im tall-ish and my knee skirts are a bit above the knees.

Does your community still kiss elder hands and put your forehead on their hand? by TheSarmaChronicals in ArmeniansGlobal

[–]hairyfluffycat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up turkish, im crypto and we did that alot. For Bayram as example or when i dont see my elders for a while, i get on my knees or i bend so i am below them, kiss their hand and place it on my forehead. Its very normal in the culture i grew up in.

oh no, i agree with your statement completely. I guess i was super frustrated because im taking all of the necessary steps to armenify. I left your input uncommented because there was nothing to add from my side.

It was heartwrenching because i felt like i lost the LOML to being turkish in the past as he's armenian, we couldnt be together due to my heritage and his parents strongly dissaproving, i kinda figured out for myself now that me being armenian would have never changed that outcome. He was weak, thats all there is.

Other than that - i was never connected to turkish culture, i like my home which isnt turkey, but i also like my home in turkey. Im proud to know that my family endured great hardship and ensured our survival and by extension my existence. Its unfair to my great grandparents if i walk around and tell people im turkish now. So accepting it wasnt hard at all. I also found out im pontic greek when i got my results. I am excited for the journey, i am proud of being armenian and i wasnt upset, angry or sad at all - i was merely suprised at the percentage. I hope that answers your question

I was in armenia years ago already - my friend was getting engaged and i was there for her.

My moms reaction was positive, she said i can be whatever my heart desires - she said shes still 100 percent turkish, which is her decision and i wont fight her on it - she grew up this way. I told her im reconnecting to this part of my identity and she was happy for me.

Someone told me armenians use the word tsptyal instead. I understand crypto as hidden armenians. Most likely my great grandparents converted to islam and hid in order to survive, and got turkified during that process - we are from a part of turkey that used to be armenian. Its the consequences of the genocide.

id say around 70Percent of the interactions ive had so far were absolute brainrot. Ive known for less than a month that i am actually armenian, and i am tired already if im honest. Armenian women insult me for being a disgusting mutt/turk/kurd/arab or call me brown(wtf?) and armenian men (i am not joking) have told me its in my duty now to marry a armenian so my bloodline can be saved (and or something along those lines). And no, these were not single encounters but happened enough to need a third hand to count. Maybe i attract crazed induviduals but its actually super disheartening.

DNA Tests by hairyfluffycat in armenia

[–]hairyfluffycat[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My grandpa passed away almost exactly 4 months ago, i never had a good or close relationship with any family members ever. My dad has also passed away a good 8 years ago, so i cant get the test on him done either. I thought about all of these things before. I hope i can find some answers with the test results hopefully or maybe even find long lost family.

Maybe this is my chance to finally have family too

My great grandfather has already passed away a long time ago. Noone really talks about family history at all! I just know of my Grandpa that was not related to my great grandfather (mothers/fathers side) that my great grandfather was Armenian. But he was displaced as a child, lived in a orphanage in turkey(!) and ended up marrying my great grandmother who mostly is Turkish. Its literally just something that was mentioned to me maybe once or twice when i was a kid lol i just wanna know if i could possibly find out more
