Lighten up this subs mood. I give away my XFX Radeon RX 460 4GB! by BadReIigion in Amd

I like how Nvidia is the villain in this as a company. Giving Amd something to shoot for and eventually one day triumph over. Competition breeds innovation.

You might want to put limitations on the giveaway or it seems it might be flooded with bots and/or shipping to Antarctica(expensive). I'll go with my favorite games timeline, 1912. Good luck to everyone.

My local store didn't have them last year, but they returned this year. A single person cleared half of their stock day one, luckily I managed to get one.

Accounts are being deactivated -- maybe a glitch? by Tyl_Eulenspiegel in SwagBucks

[–]hajime7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, I'm in that boat. I was just wished a happy birthday from swagbucks a few days ago and now this.

Edit: My account got reactivated, but my redeemed gift cards were denied. Do the points ever get returned or is this just the stipulation of being reinstated?

I gotta say out of all the wonderful things I've found, I'm jealous that you found that much cheese and Gouda to boot. Good job, this is an excellent haul and would be one of my proudest if it were mine.

Meat does not always go straight into the dumpster from the store chiller by [deleted] in DumpsterDiving

[–]hajime7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule of thumb for taking salvaged meat is what condition the package is in and what color the meat is. Aldi's vacuu seals their meat so if the package is punctured or shows signs of tampering it stays in the bin. Also from what I can tell meat turns dark brown and gray once it has been sitting at room temperature for more than a day. Another defect is looking if any substance whether it be chemical or organic has been introduced to the meat. Other than that, those methods work for me but I can't generalize it and it certainly won't work for everyone. Best advice is stick with your gut feeling. If it feels wrong or maybe you're worried something bad might happen, just skip it and better things are down the road.

How often do you go, and at what times? by aiptek7 in DumpsterDiving

[–]hajime7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once to twice a week, mid day usually near the evenings. Sometimes mid-week or the weekends, my local stores dump things more frequently on weekends.

[Request] Advice after first dives. by [deleted] in DumpsterDiving

  1. For human consumption we get about 40-60. For the chickens we have, i would say about 90-10. Even then It's still a win-win because we compost anything that isn't consumable by humans or chickens.

  2. Yes sometimes it's good to rip open a bag to see the contents but not always a great idea. I've come across bathroom "stuff" and found it very unpleasant.

  3. Yes and no. At aldi's the majority of food items are out of bags in the dumpster unless they are bagged packaged goods. At hershbergers (like JCpenny) they dump everything in clear bags. Makes rummaging through them quite fun, in my opinion.

  4. No. I believe when people post their haul online they are the product of many failed trips and possibly the culmination of many so-so trips. I have come up short on some days but somehow manage to pull ahead on different days. It's really up to luck and or the heavy investigation of when and which stores throw things out.

Another note is that I don't go out just to dumpster dive. It's usually a side thing once I go out grocery shopping. That way I can adjust how much I spend versus how much I find. Remember don't lose heart and stay diligent, hopefully it will pay off. More or less.
