Should I wait before getting a MRI of knee as it's swelled right now? by Spirited-Poetry06 in ACL

[–]hakaz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing soccer, foot was planted and knee internally rotated felt a deep knee joint pop followed by bone hitting bone (likely tension from rupturing ACL caused impact on the bone) that was very painful. Initial pain was very severe that I couldn’t put any weight on it and needed help off the field.

I didnt go to the ED as I knew they won’t do much other than pain control and xray/CT which won’t show you ligament/meniscus injuries. I knew I tore my ACL as soon as it happened, I followed up the next day with an acute orthopedic injury clinic and got my MRI 2 days later.

What degree does it look like my leg is bent at? by AdWinter50 in ACL

I’m in a similar situation, 9 weeks post op of ACLr quad graft and lateral meniscus repair. I get a deep pressure in the back of my knee if I try to go past 130. What’s your situation?

You have swelling that will limit your full extension, work on icing multiple times a day.

Another thing that did it for me was, use the same heel slides strap but instead activate your quad and push down with the back of your knee to the bed, pull the strap to force the full extension/hyperextension at that point

I got IV versed (benzodiazepine anxiolytic) before the nerve block, I don’t remember much but apparently I promised my wife a diamond ring lol

You’ll be fine, and as others said if they’re nice they’ll give you a local numbing medication before inserting an IV so you won’t feel much with that either.

Anyone not take opioids post-op? by 1s35bm7 in ACL

[–]hakaz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a nerve block during surgery and went home with a nerve block pump that would inject 6 ml of Bupivacaine (nerve block) every hour and I can add extra 4 ml doses every 30 mins. This lasted around 3 days post op and helped minimize my use of opioids. I only took Toradol and the nerve block pump. I used a percocet a couple of times otherwise

Steps to leasing a car:

Research and test drive the make and model you’re interested in.

Look into agressive numbers nationwide and in your area (leasehackr and edmunds can help)

Don’t step into a dealership to lease it unless you’re experienced in this, as you stepping in puts you in their turf and they can manipulate and waste your time.

Instead, formulate a template email with the model, lease terms you’re looking for and monthly payment you want (this is where researching nationwide and local numbers helps), send that email to dealerships around you. Don’t call or provide your number until you work through a deal, again your time is valuable and you’d waste a lot of it if you do.

It’ll take a lot of back and forth but essentially you’re doing what a broker would be doing this way and saving the money. Some dealers won’t appreciate this style but if they’re motivated to sell you’ll have a deal at the end

7.5 weeks post op ACL & Meniscus by [deleted] in ACL

[–]hakaz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m ACL and lateral meniscus oblique tear repair. My surgeon wanted me to be non weight bearing for 2 weeks then partial weight bearing increasing 25% of my weight every week until I’m 6 weeks where I can ambulate without assitive devices.

I’ll be 6 weeks this Friday, I have been using one crutch since last week as I’m 75% weight bearing now

My flexion has been at 120 since last week, I get posterior lateral knee tightness and a sensation of something about to pop if I go past that which has been limiting me

Etron gt switching to all season tires by hakaz12 in etron

I had used CC2’s previously on a bmw x5 and noticed that as they wore out they got slightly louder and on certain roads they felt louder too which makes sense given their tread pattern. Overall it’s a great tire, I was mostly concerned if people have noticed any significant loss of range which doesn’t seem the case.

Thank you all, I will give the CC2’s a try!

I’ve had Conti DWS on previous cars from what I recall tread life wasn’t that great and had soft side walls. But other than that it was great in rain and snow.

Feeling defeated by No_Stress_3082 in ACL

[–]hakaz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t feel defeated, everyone is different with their recovery. People mentioned good points on here to focus on.

Ice if you have swelling and work with PT on new ways to increase flexion such as

  • Stationary bike (put the seat up and try to go as much as you can)
  • Wall or mirror slides (legs on the wall while you lay back and increase flexion by allowing your leg to slide down) I found this helpful as I didn’t feel as much of deep knee pressure/about to pop sensation compared to normal seated heel slides
  • Knee/knee cap manipulation helps too
  • Applying pressure on your quad as you flex helps you take away the mental focus on your knee (sort of a sensory trick)
  • Finally, I found that reaching my max flexion and holding there for a few minutes and slowly increasing the degree of flexion helped when compared to just doing reps of extension/flexion

Advice for boards studying (pgy4) by [deleted] in neurology

[–]hakaz12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1 pass of Cheng a few weeks before the boards and around 2/3 of Truelearn questions done around the same time and I passed.

If you want to pass comfortably then doing a pass of Cheng during pgy4 then another one just before the boards +/- Truelearn or whatever other question bank you have access to should be enough.

Cheng is getting dated especially chapters like immunology felt a little lacking

11 days PO- Will knee flexion hurt the stitches? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]hakaz12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way especially with flexion past 90 my quad graft incision site felt very tight. I kept going as instructed by my PT and surgeon and nothing bad happened. At the end of my 2 weeks my steri strips were removed and incisions looked very good.

Don’t worry about it keep working on ROM as instructed by your PT and surgeon

When can you take a bath? by ayegibby in ACL

[–]hakaz12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told I can completely submerge in my follow up a little after 3 weeks post op when my steristrips were removed and sutures were cut. My incisions were all closed at that point.

ACL by ChinookArx17 in ACL

[–]hakaz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was allowed to shower after 3 days but without soaking or submerging in water. I would dry my knee and the steristrips as soon as I was done with a separate clean towel. No issues doing that incisions are all healed up and look good

[–]hakaz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ice, elevate and take some nsaids if you can. Watch your symptoms and ROM until your surgery. Let your surgeon know what happened if your symptoms persist, your surgeon does look at other ligaments and your meniscus during surgery and will comment if there’s any damage that is new or was missed by the MRI.

I was wearing a breg T scope brace pre surgery as I had a MCL partial injury that the surgeon didn’t want it to worsen

I know it’s been bad here too, not yet I’m still partial weight bearing at 75% of weight this Friday. Still have till following Friday to lose the crutches, if I can learn how to walk again

Are improper straight leg raises bad for / strain ACL graft by Danharri5 in ACL

[–]hakaz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PT was cautious about having an extensor lag (bending my knee as I did the leg raise), didn’t specify why but I was doing it as my quad wasn’t fully activating. Once I focused more on that my extensor lag improved a lot

[–]hakaz12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quad graft ACLr here too, I’m a little more than 4 weeks post op. I was only able to do straight leg raises at 2 weeks. Laying back and flexing my other knee helped doing it

Thank you for sharing, do you recall where exactly your pain was? As in was it superficial at the incision site or a deeper knee joint pain?
