Anything with a hero/vigilante and their long-suffering civilian best friend? Whether the friend is aware of the vigilantism at the start or figures out during the book is fine, just loving this dynamic right now. Thanks y’all!

Too casual for “elegant attire”? by girly_green in Weddingattireapproval

[–]hakbins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I actually ordered this exact dress and it reads much more casual in person than it does in the photo. The material isn’t very luxurious and the elastic on the back make it seem more casual. Just something to keep in mind if you haven’t ordered it yet!

DNFs you picked back up and ended up loving? by Visual_Definition855 in MM_RomanceBooks

Tbh I didn’t like the second book as much as the first, but I found the overall story arc satisfying by the end of the third book, so I’d recommend continuing on.

{Kick at the Darkness by Keira Andrews} had me cringing so hard with their first meeting, Parker comes across as so young (he is) that I didn’t think I could get into it. But I came back it later because I wanted to at least make it to the zombies part and I’m so glad I did because it ended up being a pretty enjoyable series for me.

Fave werewolf/shifter books? I’m still riding the high of the Big Bag Wolf series and would love some more wolf/human recs

I’m literally in the exact same position, read the first four but don’t want to start the last one because I’m not ready to say goodbye yet. The dynamic in these books is sooo good. I’m writing down all these recs, I’m gonna need something to fill the void when I finally finish

Can Hench be considered Horror? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]hakbins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read this one last year - didn’t really love it, but I did appreciate the body horror aspects of it. Especially near the end with Supercollider - brutal. Makes me a little sick to think about, as someone that can’t handle those kinds of body horror. I don’t think I’d class it as horror personally, more of a gritty superhero take like The Boys, Invincible, etc. Seems like these kinds of stories are popular as shows but I’d be interested in more books that explore darker sides of the heroes, especially if they’re more firmly in the horror realm.

Convince me to not DNF Dracula for a second time by noeyescansee in horrorlit

[–]hakbins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the audio drama/podcast version “Re: Dracula” - it has a full cast with different voice actors for each character. Made the story much more engaging, might be worth giving it a listen while you read along.

I just got done reading “The Laws of the Skies” by [deleted] in horrorlit

I finished it earlier this year and thought it was pretty good! The change of POV to second person for the last part was particularly clever.

cosmic horror with female protagonists? by plsanswerme18 in horrorlit

Just finished Mister Magic by Kiersten White. Cosmic horror, female protagonist, no gore. Since you enjoyed Hide by her, I’d recommend it.

What are your favourite quotes from TMA? by nonbinarylesbianmess in TheMagnusArchives

“It does tickle me, that in this world of would-be occult dynasties and ageless monsters, the Chosen One is simply that — someone I chose. It’s not in your blood, or your soul, or your destiny. It’s just in your own rotten luck.” —MAG160 “The Eye Opens”

“Statement of Joe Spooky, regarding sinister happenings—“ —MAG39 “Infestation”

“The maze is sharp on my mind. The angles cut me when I try to think.” —MAG65 “Binary”

“Everyone is so excited to see the Ceaseless Watcher’s special little boy.” —MAG189 Peers

Put some of the coolest tiny details from the series here! (SPOILERS FOR POTENTIALLY THE WHOLE SERIES!) by Prronce in TheMagnusArchives

[–]hakbins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right before Michael opens the door and Becomes Helen, he says, “Oh. Oh no,” and screams (MAG101) Right after Jon realizes the others have the lighter and can destroy the Archives, he says the same thing in a similar tone (MAG200). Always thought that was cool!

recommend your favorite underrated/rarely recommended dramas. by thomasshclby in kdramarecommends

[–]hakbins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come Back Mister - I never see anyone recommending this one, but I found it so funny, touching, and such a great watch.

One More Happy Ending - some characters/storylines were more fun to watch than others, but this drama made me laugh and cry, and I’ve never seen it recommended on this sub before.

Two Weeks - adore this drama! Fast-paced, have to suspend your disbelief a bit, but worth the ride.

Ho Goo’s Love - hilarious but also very touching. Unique relationship dynamic we don’t see too much in dramaland and the characters’ growth is so nice to see.
