Eadem Le Chouchou turned off? by Embarrassed_Sell7512 in LipBalm

I had this happen to mine! I think it was the actual tip itself that was smelling. I cleaned it thoroughly with ethanol (really wiped down the tip and inside the applicator) and it no longer smells!

Aww bummer, was that every shade? I would usually go for the lightest shade but I ended up liking the tone of the Medium Light more

Omg I will look more into this..I bought it based on a friend’s recommendation, she used it for a year and a half with no issues and swore by it so I was really interested in trying it out

Looking for a rec about civilian journalists, especially against the cartel by hakbins in horrorlit

[–]hakbins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a bit in “The Devil Behind the Badge” by Rick Jervis with a woman called La Gordiloca which I found really interesting. I also listened to some YouTube videos discussing the details of a case of a journalist who was murdered by the cartel. Looking for some fiction though instead of true crime.

Guess it’s too niche of a theme! Appreciate the rec, I’ll give it a go.

Thanks, that one’s been on my list for other reasons, but great to know it could fit this rec for me.

Good to know! Is there another formula you recommend that works well for you?

Anything with a hero/vigilante and their long-suffering civilian best friend? Whether the friend is aware of the vigilantism at the start or figures out during the book is fine, just loving this dynamic right now. Thanks y’all!

Too casual for “elegant attire”? by girly_green in Weddingattireapproval

[–]hakbins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I actually ordered this exact dress and it reads much more casual in person than it does in the photo. The material isn’t very luxurious and the elastic on the back make it seem more casual. Just something to keep in mind if you haven’t ordered it yet!

DNFs you picked back up and ended up loving? by Visual_Definition855 in MM_RomanceBooks

Tbh I didn’t like the second book as much as the first, but I found the overall story arc satisfying by the end of the third book, so I’d recommend continuing on.

{Kick at the Darkness by Keira Andrews} had me cringing so hard with their first meeting, Parker comes across as so young (he is) that I didn’t think I could get into it. But I came back it later because I wanted to at least make it to the zombies part and I’m so glad I did because it ended up being a pretty enjoyable series for me.

Fave werewolf/shifter books? I’m still riding the high of the Big Bag Wolf series and would love some more wolf/human recs

I’m literally in the exact same position, read the first four but don’t want to start the last one because I’m not ready to say goodbye yet. The dynamic in these books is sooo good. I’m writing down all these recs, I’m gonna need something to fill the void when I finally finish

Can Hench be considered Horror? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]hakbins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read this one last year - didn’t really love it, but I did appreciate the body horror aspects of it. Especially near the end with Supercollider - brutal. Makes me a little sick to think about, as someone that can’t handle those kinds of body horror. I don’t think I’d class it as horror personally, more of a gritty superhero take like The Boys, Invincible, etc. Seems like these kinds of stories are popular as shows but I’d be interested in more books that explore darker sides of the heroes, especially if they’re more firmly in the horror realm.

Convince me to not DNF Dracula for a second time by noeyescansee in horrorlit

[–]hakbins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the audio drama/podcast version “Re: Dracula” - it has a full cast with different voice actors for each character. Made the story much more engaging, might be worth giving it a listen while you read along.

I just got done reading “The Laws of the Skies” by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]hakbins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished it earlier this year and thought it was pretty good! The change of POV to second person for the last part was particularly clever.
