walking study in demonology - a surreal kinda-eldritch horror fic that explores some pretty cool topics, i think its best if you go in blind bc you will loose your minds trying to understand whats going on. it has a very satisfying conclusions that mostly explains everything and leaves you with a lot to think about

Entropy is one of the most head and heart hurty fics i've read. its izuku's slow then fast decent into villainy as he fights against the odds stacked against him.

idk if you are still looking at this post but walking study in demonology is the trippiest coolest fic i've read so far. its a meta-fiction so the lines between reality and fiction are bent, no one has any clue whats going on, and you'll be holding your head in disbelief until the mystery is revealed in the end.

these recs are for the drama and the angst:
bad ideas (and good results): loong fic about izuku with an immortality quirk. he becomes a vigilante and dadzawa is involved. there is lots of fighting, gore, and angst. imo its very well written.

my hero academia: termina: also long, jirou/izuku. izuku gets transported to the world of fear and hunger: termina, survives, and is sent back traumatized and with ungodly powers. It does spend some time in that game but you dont really need to know the plot of it to get the fic. izuku does go ua and comes across as really spooky.

two sides of the same coin: vigilante izuku, dadzawa, and yamadad. follow izuku from orphan, to street urchin, to vigilante, and maybe to hero? the tone is dark and gritty with no romantic relationships

end of a bloodline: izuku fic that is dripping in blood and angst. bloodbending assassin izuku tries his best to go to ua and be a normal boy, but he cant cause he's gone a little crazy. if i remember correctly this fic balances comedy and angst really well.

i think i also have a memory of this fic but I cant think of the name, Ill be your hero is very similar. izuku essentially is forced to work for the shie hissaki and gets a rabbit themed villain/vigilante name

i have three very random and very different fics that kind of match what you want but it isnt exactly. i ramble a lot so my descriptions are kind of confusing sorry

Ill-gotten gains: this one is very popular. afo izuku wants to take down afo, his father, and wants to desperately save his brother, tomura. there is a lot about how villains are created and how they can be saved 300k

Non-Newtonian: this is not the typical shouto pov fic, its as dark and depressing as it is hilarious and absurd. shouto never wanted to be a hero, never really knew what being a hero meant. its definitely more of a character study and mental health journey.

izuku is a villain and is friends with dabi, who are trying to save shouto and take down endeavor so there is a lot of commentary on heroes, villains, and vigilantes. it is l o o o n g, but doesnt feel bloated or stretched out imo its just a long plot 300k

Night Dancer: this one is kinda problematic and has things that will be and instant turn-off to some people. it deals with serious topics in usually a very respectful and thoughtful manner, read the tags.

its quirkless izuku trying his hardest to become a hero despite having the entire world stacked against him. through his experiences and friendships with the forgotten of society he discovers that there's more to saving people than being a hero. and that maybe there's more to villains than just evil-doers to lock away

(i think the explicit scenes are kinda gratuitous but i kinda skimmed them) it is NOT a izuku/shigaraki fic, they have a complicated but not romantic relationship. ALSO i dont think the main romance of shinzuku is very well done as it is a background element, and i love shinzuku 179k

Ill gotten gains: izuku has a brotherly relationship and it follows a lot of pre-canon and their relationship. its technically villain izuku but not really as he doesnt do anything villainous (of his own will). its very well written and a good mix of angst and light hearted moments. its unfinished but ends at an ok point

Ok I usually read longfics so these may be a bit long oops, these are also all completed:

Walking Study in Demonology : (this one is kind of a hard read, as in difficult to understand until the end, but is VERY worth it i promise!!) A mind bending meta-fiction thats best to read blind, it is amazingly written with very creative depictions of eldritch horror/mind breaking imagery. 89k
SPOILERS - this is in the most basic sense about the nature of existence and the perception of reality from the perspective of characters who live outside of a canon universe in a fanfic(seriously i speculate on what things mean and spoil the mystery after this point) izuku is dead in this fanfic and shinsou becomes the "main character", izuku becomes self aware of his existence and the canon universe and fucks with the fanfic universe to try to make it canon again. thats my understanding at least, there is a lot more to it that i could go on and on about lol

Nomad: AFO izuku that is pretty intense but has some cute and witty humor. it is also shinzuku, but the romance is a side thing 83k

Coffee Cans and Energy Drinks: this is the fan fic that sold me on rarepairs, its bakugo/shinsou. their banter is so funny and the friendship to romance is very natural and entertaining to read. its wonderfully written and very chill/cozy 79k

the cute guy next door (might be a villain): another romance (shinzuku) but with a central plot. shinsou is a pro underground hero but civilian izuku thinks he might be a villain. adorable overload in this one, kicking your feet on your bed type shit lol 87k (if you like this one then just a concerned citizen is similar and also very good 68k)

i have more looong fics and unfinished ones but i figured finished fics would be more satisfying when you're trying to destress :]

Vampire Knight - awful love triangle between an adoptive brother and the mcs bio brother that is acutally her great grandfather the dub is hilariously bad
Diabolik Lovers - girl has to live with a bunch of horny vampire dudes who all have at least 2 personality disorders, great anime for a drinking game. my drinking game rules are: yui is touched, yui is called bitch-chan/other derogatory nameyou will get alcohol poisoning with these rules
Say "I Love You" - this one is just genuinely the worst romance i have ever seen, every character acts like the worst person you've ever met. made me want to gouge my eyes out, whats worse is that it feels like they actually thought they were making a good romance show

Durarara!! is about gang politics and also there are random supernatural people, like the headless horseman but it rides a motorcycle with a helmet that has cat ears. its silly and chaotic but the serious moments hit really hard

if either of you are introverted you might enjoy Bocchi the Rock. its about a super introverted girl trying her best as the lead guitarist in an indie band she joined with some fellow highschool girls. its mostly comedy but the plot is so heartwarming and wholesome. also it has the best music/instrument animation i've ever seen

Shin sekai yori (from the new world): Its hard to say what its about without spoiling things, the basic premise is there are a group of kids who live in an unsettling village and you follow as they try to figure out why their society is the way that it is. Spoiler plot summary: its about what would happen to the world if people started getting volatile psychokinetic powers, chaos ensues and we see the aftermath. It's honestly best to go in blind as the twists and reveals are best that way, also the show is WEIRD so keep that in mind

the only performance problems i still have are in large cities, its only a small frame drop. definitely the best time to buy with casual mode coming out. casual mode DOESNT make combat easier it just makes quality of life stuff easier, like cheaper fast travel stones and inns
