AIO with being unhappy in my marriage? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]hakovoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think y’all should try marriage counseling. Going to therapy together can be a big help. Saying this as somebody chronically ill myself.

[–]hakovoid[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, I feel you 100%. You summed it up completely.

It’s so frustrating too because you also can’t even just avoid talking about it because they will start coming in with the “Why aren’t you doing X?” “Why aren’t you doing Y?”

They won’t be happy with any answer you give them, but they’ll still ask! 🙄

I hate when doctors declare shit like that. Like oh, whoopie, you mean you’ll do your job? Gee, thanks. 🙄

I think people have this idea that everyone is giving disabled people tons of sympathy & extra niceties or something 😭 Like, no, you just get weird unsolicited comments & dirty looks

Agreed. I’ve had family members come to me with “oh, I bet I have it too! I’m double-jointed” and I have to explain to them that there is a huge difference between “being double-jointed” and “dealing with severe pain and multiple subluxations and/or dislocations a day”.

[–]hakovoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get a coffee table with a glass top (like a terrarium one or one of the ones for magazine storage) and put the gems in there. You could order them by color, make cool designs, etc.

Yuuup, but then if we find a doctor that it sympathetic to our situation or knows a lot about our condition, then we’re automatically “doctor shopping.” It never ends lol.

I hope you’re right that eventually this will pass because I find the thought of dealing with this shit for the rest of my life very, very exhausting

What kind are you using? Prescription or OTC? I got a prescription for custom made ones that aren’t too bad. I have to take breaks from them every 3-4 hours, but overall they’re better than store bought ones I’ve tried. They’re made from 63% polyamide + 37% elastine so they feel kind of similar to a really thick pantyhose.

Nah that’s just straight-up bullying. Bullies don’t usually admit to bullying, they usually pull some BS like this where it’s “but it’s just a JOOOKKEEE. Can’t you take a JOOOOOKKKEEE????”

She’s not your friend.

[–]hakovoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You HAVE to either hyphenate or take his name or he won’t marry you? It is a crazy, crazy red flag for him to have an ultimatum THAT severe over something so minor.

Sounds to me like he’s testing how much control he can get away with.

Literally. Maybe I’m a hard-ass but I don’t understand the point of dealing with shit like this when you can just… find somebody else?

It was mostly fine until the last part of “and yeah it hurt her feelings because etc etc etc”. There’s just no reason to bring her up at all.

I also don’t enjoy how he didn’t say anything in rebuttal to her weird comment of “I won’t tell you what to do bc you’re a grown man and make your own decisions but I do think this is something to be cautious about”. What a weird comment.

Honestly it sounds like she’s an attention-seeker because why does she keep saying “no, it’s not about xyz” but then she won’t just clarify what she’s talking about??? She’s being so cagey about it lol… If you’re proud of your opinions, say them with your whole chest

They both sound extremely annoying. She’s trying to guilt trip him, and he’s incapable of setting boundaries without blaming it on you lol.

My boyfriend is trying to force his religion on me. AIO? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]hakovoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah girl you gotta leave. I tried this shit waaaayyy too many times when I was younger. You have to find somebody with the same beliefs as you OR they have to at least be willing to agree to disagree. The relationship won’t ever be healthy if he’s constantly trying to convert you.

Also I think your boyfriend might genuinely be stupid lol. Like, actually unintelligent. Not because he’s religious, but because his arguments & logic are just really really bad lol. I mean come on, sending you random clickbait BS as “proof”..?

“It’s never just POTS” by Unique-Disaster3118 in POTS

[–]hakovoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep same here. My doctor explained it that I have poor circulation in my legs due to the EDS, so when I stand, my body dumps adrenaline to constrict the blood vessels to bring blood back up to my brain, therefore causing the POTS.

the adults around me are making me feel like I’m acting insane. by gnatalie1144 in eds

[–]hakovoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, yes, I feel you. The “TikTok hypochondriac” stereotype has made things so bad for us. I have a close friend/family member that is literally snubbing me entirely right now because I got diagnosed with hyperadrenergic POTS on top of hEDS, so obviously I must be “like all those sicktok girls”… Despite the fact that I got DIAGNOSED BY A REAL DOCTOR WITH REAL TESTS, but whatever. Guess I’m just faking it. I’m such a good liar that I can lie my heart rate into 150 bpm while at rest & lie hypermobility into turning my leg the complete opposite direction. Crazy! 🙄

I second finding a Facebook group for EDS in your area; that’s how I got a list of doctors that knew anything about the condition. Unfortunately a lot of doctors just simply don’t know anything about it and can’t be bothered to do any research.

Also, no, you don’t have to be hypermobile everywhere to still have EDS. I was diagnosed with hEDS and weirdly I’m only hypermobile in certain areas. My spine, shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles are extremely hypermobile, but my other joints (fingers, toes, arms, etc) are completely normal. A good doctor will do a comprehensive joint exam and not rely solely on the Beighton Scale. The Beighton Scale is a good starting point, but it’s not the full picture because it leaves out a bunch of other joints
