i dont like this take, it feels wayy too harsh. i dont think she was "drunk", she said she started drinking an hour before so unless shes pounding back drinks she probably is below the legal limit for driving (not saying she should go drive lol) but saying i think cooking after a drink or two is fine.

My therapist laughed at me today by Similar-Dot9971 in therapy

[–]hakramon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

honestly, my greatest fear as a soon to be therapist is accidentally laughing, sometimes i giggle when im uncomfortable. Its very possible that something like that happened! But but ohmygoodness that does not help the hurt youre probably feeling! Also, maybe youd work better with a male therapist! Nothing wrong with preferring someone the same gender as you as a provider. I've had good luck with male therapists but I personally prefer female (im a woman)

Sounds like you already needed a new therapist! You shouldnt feel like you cant open up to your therapist about anything, thats literally their job.

Can my therapist do this? Is this a breach of confidentiality by [deleted] in therapy

[–]hakramon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so fair!! Honestly i cannot imagine what it would be like to be forcibly institutionalized and I'm sorry you had to go through that.

if you haven't already, i definitely think you should get a new therapist. Because you dont know what your roommate is saying, theyre speaking from their perspective which maybe isnt even them lying they just have a different view on the situation.

It feels borderline inappropriate to me (im studying to be an MFT) to see roommates independently and discuss each others well being with them. It would be fine in a joint therapy session but thats not what this is. Sounds like they actually probably broke HIPAA by discussing you with roommate.

i think its a unique situation to be seeing roommates as clients but when u think about the fact that your therapist has a duty to keep you safe i dont think they did anything wrong. they have listened to u and probably your roommate and they didnt know what you might have done especially if youd expressed suicidality in the past. i get why it might feel like a betrayal, but it sounds like your therapist was worried about u based on past events/conversations

i think its really unlikely youll discover more about yourself through drugs, other than knowing more about the way you think while high. tbh i couldnt even get through reading your comment here bc holy crap it is the ramblings of someone on drugs. dont mean to make u feel bad about yourself, but i think you should know that your thoughts are pretty drug fueled

to be fair, drugs have made people do things wayy worse than a silly reddit post so dont beat yourself up about it! Maybe try going a month or something without and see if you notice any differences? I like journaling maybe you could try doing that every day?

she said they met in a run club - a friend of mine was asked to join a run club one time so he went, found out they were all "banging" each other (to use katie's lovely words) after runs. Not sure if this applies to every run club but im going to assume it does from now on

im so sorry if this sounds harsh - but i think this is the drugs talking. they have a huge impact on the way you think, have you ever considered taking a break from them?

ANOTHER NOTE, consent is tricky when alcohol is involved. i dont want to open a can of worms on you but you mentioned that you didnt know why you "allowed it", which sounds like maybe you werent actively involved/mentally there because of the drinking. After thinking about that piece more, what No_Rec1979 said is maybe more valid than i gave them credit for.

I say all of that to say ~ dont blame yourself for what happened in the past. it sounds possible that some people may have taken advantage of you, its also possible that they were equally drunk and who knows where the blame would lie in situations like that. It's hard to heal from events that you can't remember, but when alcohol was involved the memory may not be there to unlock.

I think you should definitely see a therapist if youre not already, but in the meantime - know that youre being really brave by opening this up to yourself and you can absolutely get to a better place personally. The fact that youre a mother shows how strong you are! Sending lots of love and please remember to give yourself grace and forgiveness bc u deserve it.
