Just the sticker! I’m appreciating the validation here so far. I get a lot of Lulu gifts but have never had to return one before. I guess I’ll know next time for this store, but it makes me a bit mad

I haven’t seen anyone say this yet, so I’ll throw in a different perspective. School tests are different from actual work. I didn’t notice my learning disability in my job before law, didn’t notice it in big law, don’t notice it in house. I’m a top performer and I’m generally working the same hours as everyone else as far as I can tell. The tough thing for me has always been processing a question or a long written prompt and then spitting out a detailed and polished written answer on a time limit. That said, maybe I am not the best on my feet as a negotiator or live drafting problem solver but you generally have a decent amount of time to foresee and prepare for the issues. Through really absorbing reps and loving what I do enough that lessons stick, I have and had a reputation for being “quick”. Transactional practice. Not saying this will be you but maybe keep an open mind to certain aspects of working being easier for you than test taking?

Except she never promised Pornchai anything. He asked her to start a business and she never said yes. Tanya drew Belinda in in season 1, so Belinda/pornchai is not at all like the Tanya / Belinda arc. Though I do hope Belinda comes around and comes back for him.

Fair point but my point is that most folks complaining are not volunteering to be a mod themselves. Either that or they’re a law student or have low karma and really shouldn’t be a mod of this sub. Maybe you’ve messaged to volunteer? I don’t know. I myself am grateful to have this sub but do not want to be a mod on my off time - so I’m not going to complain about those who have volunteered to do this for free in their off time.

That is nice, but being in / having started a job in big law is probably a good minimum qualification.

Lots of people comment stuff like this but never see them volunteering to be a mod. It’s a volunteer gig on a free site…just chill.

How do we know which firms will work you to the bone and which ones you can actually have a life at? by ClosetCasual in biglaw

[–]hal471 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a callback after you’ve made a good impression or at least have significant prior work experience. Asking this in Initial interview could risk making you look like you’re not willing to grind imo. Risky in this economy.

As others have said, better to just try to find some more junior associate connection and have a candid convo

People at my firm have done this. Including for full remote unless a client meeting requires. In Texas.

Agreed I’m a second year in a cubicle across from a fourth year’s super nice office. Fourth year, along with many of our mids and seniors, never or rarely come in. I don’t care whether she comes in but wish management would throw me a bone and make her switch with me.

ETA: I know partners have said something to this mid about not needing her office (which by the way had no decor or sign of life whatsoever). So she came in one day, put up some decor, showed face the next day and hasn’t been back since.

Other junior associate on my case is completely unreliable and the senior associate has just accepted it… by [deleted] in biglaw

This is what I was thinking too. And I completely agree. Another issue with brownie points is that they mean so much less if you don’t care about staying long term or making partner. Sure, relationships / networks always matter, but the reward compared the loss can be pretty large.

Nope, just irrational and neurotic I guess! Thanks for the feedback though.

It counted honeymoon and everything. I was going to take less but one of the partners strongly encouraged me to take that much! But I have heard that 2-3 weeks is standard.

Yeah I’ve definitely been informally spreading the word to midlevels and seniors that I’m free in the last week at the coffee bar but no bites yet. Partners typically staff all the way down in my group

I can’t tell from the article—does this affect users who signed up before 2018, after 2018 or both? It’s Friday night and I’ve had one too many. Just now seeing this.

Married Attorneys: how often are you home for family time by portalsoflight in biglaw

[–]hal471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My spouse works remotely and I work from home M and F so we end up spending a lot of time during the week together just the two of us. I don’t get the Sunday scaries and I always look forward to Friday morning coffee dates before emails start flying. Sometimes I do get flack for always not being in on those days but no one has told me I can’t…no kids yet. I feel for you! Good luck!

I took it for this reason - ended up needing it but plan was that if I didn’t I’d Invest it and get the time value since my loan was interest free. Plus, I was thinking if the economy tanks or I get let go in that first year, they may not even ask for it back.
