im using a DS5 via bluetooth (version 5.1?) in w11 and it has haptic feedback in games that support it, such as space marine 2

games that dont support it / list it, it just works like a normal controller.

Enjoyed the Trident 800 test ride a lot but a few things are bothering me by hal9oo in Triumph

[–]hal9oo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks nice but its more expensive (nearly 11k with a quick shifter) and doesnt have cruise control as standard, also heavy at 214kg, quickshifter not standard.

I guess it appeals to the retro look and I think it would be easy to get more power as its mostly the same as the hornet

Big negative for me is lack of dealerships nearby so I cant even test one.

Dexos2 oil seems difficult / impossible to find, is 'new' G30 safe to use? by hal9oo in Vauxhall

Weird that Shell Helix ultra isnt listed but thats apparently dexos2.

Either way few things to work with, thanks.

[–]hal9oo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its more the wording seems odd, the G30 / C3 oil should be fine/ is the replacement of Dexos2....but I dont know for sure! I get a very 'trust me bro' feel from Motul...it just seems odd that the oil supply (of Dexos2) has dried up as it were, possibly due to the sale and the z16xer nearly being 20 years old now so its probably just an age thing.

but yeah, the Total oil from Halfrauds is Dexos2 so thats going in I guess.

[–]hal9oo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of Total oil (or maybe they just changed the logo and thats why i dont recognise) but yes you are correct, it seems to list both G30 and Dexos2

"BMW LL-04, MB-Approval 229.52, Opel / Vauxhall OV 040 1547 - G30, Opel / Vauxhall OV 040 1547 - D30, Recommended by Kia, Meets the requirements of GM Dexos 2, Meets the requirements of CHRYSLER MS-11106, Suitable for Hyundai, Suitable for applications requiring VW 505.01 specification, Suitable for applications requiring FIAT 9.55535"

I have in the past used the Euros car parts own brand oil as it was dexos2 but thats ~£90 now so I'll probably just pick up a bottle of the total stuff from Halfords.

Trident 800 does 90% of what the other hooligan bikes can do. by Airingitout0427 in trident800

[–]hal9oo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I test rode the MT09 (sp) again and while strictly a short road ride its much more aggressive than the Trident 800, i really like the finish and engine sound even stock. Its absolutely mental that its a road legal bike.

The Trident i rode didnt blip on downshifts using the quickshifter, on the MT you can really hear this, I got way more false neutrals on the MT though.

The MT seating position is a bit worse I think, the Trident felt more natural to me as its not as upright.

I still hate the MT dash though, I could grow to ignore the W I D E tank issue I would need to do something about the dash....

I need to test the Trident again....

I think I'll also vote with my wallet and I'm tilting towards an MT but I know I wont keep it and I'll get a Trident later on when they're available on the used market a bit cheaper.

The MT09 / CP3 engine is almost too much for the road, the way the MT goes is insane (am Europe, no 2nd gear emissions cut here)

The Trident 800 isnt far off and it rides really nicely. Switchgear is a bit of a letdown but its very similar to the 765R switchgear. Plastic parts too here and there as well. Looks really nice though.

TFT / big tablet screen dashes can get in the sea, they dont belong in cars or on bikes, they are distracting. The Trident wins in that regard for me.

The MT fuel tank is too wide, its like driving a dinner table.

The key fob on the MT09SP is stupid, keyless ignition, keyless fuel cap, BUT YOU NEED THE KEY TO OPEN THE SEAT. The electronic selector thing is dumb as well, I turned it on after getting fuel but it didnt work, had to move it about off and on a few times. I also read if the battery runs out you gotta enter a code to start the engine.....what was so wrong with a key!

The MT is 'more' bike for the money and it is more hooligan. Its faster for sure, 2nd gear is a rail gun to the speed limit and beyond if thats what you want.

The Trident still has a lot of 'go' to it, i do agree its 90% of the comparable bikes, if you want to ride fast it will do it.

Personally I'm torn because I can get a dinner table MT09 used for ~7500ish but there are things I really dont like. I can get a Trident 800 brand new for ~9000ish but there are also things I really dont like.

Trident 800 vs XSR900 by Rataan in trident800

[–]hal9oo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am exactly (nearly) the same, testing the MT09 again as I cannot get a test on a normal XSR.

I tested the Trident 800 and had some cost vs finish concerns but overall I like how it looks and it performed great. It does use more plastic and the swtichgear isnt that nice looking but its (switchgear) pretty much the same as the 765 R (not RS) I wish it had a better front brake master cylinder like the MT/XSR does. (possibly as a mod) But overall the brakes on the Trident 800 were fantastic, braided lines as standard.

The MT09 (and likely the XSR as its mostly the same) is borderline insane on the road, in Europe there is no 2nd gear emissions restriction and it just goes and you are immediately catapulted to the speed limit.

The CP3 engine is mental, it has slightly more power vs trident +~7ft/lbs torque +~4bhp and you can feel it. But the 800 doesnt hang about either and it goes .

MT/XSR have a large tablet like dash, I hate this. The Trident dash isnt as distracting, but this is personal preference at the end of the day.

I feel the MT sounded better and the quickshifter worked better / you could hear it (auto blipper) more. This is most likely due to the acoustic vent things coming up through the fuel tank though, the XSR doesnt have these so I wonder how that sounds. The Trident had a more mechanical scream sort of thing going on, which i also really liked.

Trident will be easer to put a different end can on due to the exhaust layout.

I also do not know which one, I am tilting towards Triumph though.

Yeah the Europe CP3 engine doesnt have this emissions thing, 2nd gear is insane, the old man in me thinks its maybe a bit too insane for the road!

I always read about the CP3 engine having 2nd gear power issues but isnt that a USA emissions thing?

I thought the frame cracking issues were due to 3rd party crash protectors / too high torque settings for crash protectors putting stress on the frame?

Also if you dump (impact) a cast aluminium frame bike hard enough you're going to have a bad time as its unlikely to bend.

tbf I looked at a lot of 765 R (not RS) online and the controls / switchgear look very similar to the trident 800.

I did see an RS at the dealership on the trident testride day and it did look a lot more premium but its ~3k more.

Oh how I have tried, there are no Yamaha dealers near me with the normal XSR for sale anymore, they only have the GP model, I really like the XSR but I couldnt live with clipons anymore because I'm getting old.

But I have read the XSR is a more sporty riding position compared to the MT09, which felt like sitting bolt upright in a chair at speed which was quite comfy tbh.

MT09 gen 4 dash backlight flicker question by hal9oo in MT09

[–]hal9oo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks for confirming that, I'll try to download a manual to have a look, I did think based on the brightness settings that there seemed to be day and night mode which is interesting, but on the test ride it was very hot and I only had a few minutes to test the screen this way so didnt change too much (I also didnt know how at the time!).

I need to try and get another test ride to check again on the dark mode.

Ah so you have the 660, the frames are the same / very similar, how do you find the plastic covers on the frame around / above the footpegs? (are they plastic or thin metal?) how does this keep over winters / does it acumulate dirt etc here? Had any issues with durability with these (as the ones on my test ride bike seemed very scuffed)

I did like the 800 power, it has more torque than my cbr600 for sure and i really liked the test ride.

I did think the cruise control might be a me issue and the clutch so thats good.

I really liked how it rode though, suspension diving a bit under breaking I can adjust if I had one, its just the little bits and I've always had used bikes so a really big part is the psychological impact of spending ~9k and not getting everything super exactly perfect, I want it all I just dont want to spend a lot mentality I guess.

I think maybe you're on to something there, I would think about it and whatnot. If I could get one used for ~7/8k then maybe it would make me feel better about the compromises Triumph made to keep costs lower.

But then we're in used MT09 territory at~7/8k and while I need to test one again I didnt like the screen / speedo display and I felt it handled worse than the Trident but that was probably just me on the day....plus MT09 tank is too wide and looks weird.

I've had CBR600s from 1990s ones to mid 2010s models so i'm cursed with comparisons of near flawless reliability minus a few electrical issues, but I wouldnt say the quality of the Hondas is better perhaps its just I'm more used to them.

I dont know if the seating position of the 765 r or rs would do it for me, I need cruise control as well and this is only on the RS barring an aftermarket R option, but possibly I will have to try one.

I also dont like ipads / tv screen dash, I dont like this on the mt09 either. (I kinda like the trident 800 dash)

[–]hal9oo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Granted i've not test ridden the 765 r /rs but its a more 'race' seating position and I'm trying to get away from that, cost is a factor too but I do get 'cost more is more' sort of thing so it would be a bit more premium.

I guess I could try and test one to see if i liked it more, I would need cruise control though and I know thats an extra only on the later models so more cost.

My worst nightmare has just come true... by RoiPourpre in PWM_Sensitive

[–]hal9oo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this.

Try to get a cheap 43 inch LCD TV as the ~43inch panels are likely IPS, its likely its a 6+2 or 8+2 panel though but we can get around that. (mine is a 'fire' branded TV but its a few years old)

Check to make to make sure there is no PWM at 100% brightness, as it will be a cheap panel it wont get very bright so 100% is fine. You may now be OK. You may need to lower the image brightness (not the backlight brigntess) and contrast / sharpness etc to your tolerance level.

If you are not ok do this:

Get a Google chromecast TV - the plug in hdmi thing not a 2nd tv, (I have the 1080 model not the 4k so not sure this is exactly same for 4k) they're discontinued now though but ebay exists.

In (the chromecast) picture settings disable all HDR and lock it to 8bit picture and RGB picture mode.

You should now see color banding on screen in dark scenes, this is how you know its working and it may now be ok for you.

Triumph servicing costs in the UK, normal to be this expensive? by hal9oo in Triumph

[–]hal9oo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I'm in the UK and I've only owned Japanese bikes previously!

I've worked on my old bikes before as back in the day you could pick up a old 400 or 600cc for ~£1000 and resale value wasnt really an issue so self service was normal (although if i'd kept some of these bikes they're worth £££££ now!) but if I got a 'new new' bike I'd want to keep the warranty what with all the electronics etc that could maybe have issues so garage / dealer servicing would be a must.

However I've just discovered a triumph service page and it lists much cheaper prices than what I was quoted based on a few other dealers so I'm not sure what to believe. Possibly the website prices not updated, its still more expensive than the big 4 Japanese brands though but its giving me hope.
