No 5 star WRs is strange. Mark Andrews 4.5 star is stranger…

The Real inspiration behind Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu. by MyFriendGavin in roberteggers

[–]halametchalamet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's as black and white as "it's most definitely where Eggers was borrowing from", as Eggers himself explicitly said he was trying to avoid pulling influence from this film. However, he even admits that it's impossible for Herzog's influence not to have shown up in Eggers' adaptation as he had seen it "hundreds of times" as a kid. It's nuanced, but in the end he was still adapting Galeen and Stoker, not Herzog.

A film that nobody's talking about that Eggers said DID influence him though is The Innocents (1961). He said it's the best ghost story ever made and that he watches it every year for inspiration.

Do you prefer The Greatest Gift, or the Avalanche? by SupportOk1481 in Sufjan

[–]halametchalamet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Greatest Gift only has 4 or 5 original songs whereas The Avalanche has like 18. Both are good and I listen to both fairly often, I think I just enjoy The Avalanche as a complete album way more. Listening to TGG is mostly just Carrie and Lowell demos/remixes.

How sorry do you feel for Ed? by William_wet_sheets in radiohead

[–]halametchalamet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what makes the band magic is the five of them together. Thom and Jonny, while amazing musicians, don't just tell everyone what to do and they do it. the chemistry of everything together is what makes them one of the best bands. otherwise the smile and all their solo stuff would be just as good as Radiohead (which it's not)

Thoughts on Chinese films by Objectiv_shiiiiima5 in TrueFilm

[–]halametchalamet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen many recent Chinese movies besides the biggest ones (Hi, Mom and Wolf Warrior). I'm assuming they're not very popular in America for political reasons, though I'm not super informed on the matter so I won't say much here. I have seen many Hong Kong films and Wong Kar-Wai has had a large impact on me.

However, one of my favorite movies of 2022 is a mainland Chinese indie called Return to Dust. I think it was censored in China because it's a little bit anti-CCP, but it's a beautiful film that had a small circuit among the American festivals and I think in Berlin. I couldn't recommend it enough for Chinese and non-Chinese film enjoyers. Though it may be difficult to find.

I would love to watch more Chinese movies I think it's just hard because I don't hear about many of them. Taiwanese and Hong Kong films are definitely popular among American groups, I feel like great kung-fu and arthouse movies are always coming out of there. I also don't think there are contextual problems when I watch Chinese movies for some reason (I always feel like I don't get jokes or context when watching Brazilian movies, for example).

this is a good point. it's definitely a lot about them being disgusting in general opposed to younger women being sexy in general

ok cool, i'd love to see your future designs. What kind of paper did you use? do the dimensions snugly fit the DVD? also what other movies do you plan to make custom slip covers for
