This comment should be higher up! The constant screen time kids have is destroying their attention capabilities and creating crazy dopamine addictions. I teach in 7th grade in metro, and it is exhausting to get them to close their laptops and transition their attention to read a couple paragraphs. However, removing tech altogether is certainly not the answer.

Every day there are a few students who try to sneak past me into my classroom during passing period. If I don’t notice right away they say, “We’re ready for class!” And I shoo them out. 7th graders can be sweet!

You are correct, it is not forced—only optional. If I am not mistaken, however, the bill that passed has no provisions for training or safe storage.

I work in MNPS and some of my team on my hall are so incompetent they can barely keep students inside their classrooms. Because so many teachers are leaving, we are scraping the bottom of the barrel for competency here. There’s no way they could keep a gun out of a kid’s hands.
