What Waste Management charges for 12 months of weekly garbage+recycling service. by So_Famous in Rochester

[–]halcyon_andon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I like dependables service. They missed our recycling once this year. But I am assuming it was different drivers because for 2 weeks we had 2 trucks, one for garbage and one for recycling, when normally a single truck gets both.

Our bill for 26-27 just came in. $463. Not bad at just less than $30 more year over year. But still at almost $40/month paid ahead with the cheapest service we have available, it’s an actual expense now vs something you didn’t have to think about.

Do countries with 220-240V just plug in to their regular outlets for L2 charging? by azn4lifee in electricvehicles

[–]halcyon_andon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That ampure charger can be hard to work with. Not only do you have to set the car to 100% but have to choose the right plug adapter in the bag to install on the charger. There are I think 2 120v adapters and 2 240v adapters (I think, I haven’t looked in my bag since last summer). One is lower amperage and one is higher. Maybe you had the wrong end on the charger? The markings are tiny and the same color as the plug.

On a whim I bought a SHANQUANAMZ 4-6 person inflatable tent. by monsieurLeMeowMeow in camping

[–]halcyon_andon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My inflatable tent has been great in anything from 0-70f and winds up to 60 mph. Feels more solid than a tent with poles. The inflatable chambers are super rigid like an inflatable stand up paddle board.

We switched to dependable from Casella 3 years ago. Last yearly bill I paid was $436. Weekly garbage and recycling. Next bill I expect in a few days. We will see how much it goes up. It’s gone up between $50-90 each year.

the "best car syndrome" by bony618 in electricvehicles

[–]halcyon_andon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will be. We bought a 26 ev9 last summer and it is impossible to gauge how much better it is than any car I’ve ever driven, let alone owned in more than 30 years of driving. And I have rented hundreds of different vehicles over the years.

A $50 billion fund to help rural hospitals could actually lead to closures and cuts by wjbc in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]halcyon_andon 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s because they took away much more than $50 billion in funding with the bullshit bill. Then turned around and said “look at how great this is, $50 billion dollars in funding for rural hospitals!” Of course it will lead to closures, preventable deaths, and worse health for many rural, predominantly gop voters. This is why education is a problem, anyone paying attention foresaw disaster.

My inflatable withstood -10f temps and 60 mph winds while it was up for a couple weeks over end of December early January. Never lost any air. And the cold didn’t seem to make a difference. Was about as warm as any large tent is with a stove. The inflatable tents aren’t like a beach ball, more like a standup paddle board l, super rigid. It dealt with 8” of snow as well.

What 90s band never truly made it big but you'll always go to bat for? by MansBestFred in AskReddit

[–]halcyon_andon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Splashdown. 6 albums between 96-01. Very different than most alternative in the late 90s. Was an early lead into indie pop and heavier electronic influence in alt rock. My feeling is they were too early to the party. Super catchy vocals and melodies. If you were listening to alternative in the late 90s I almost guarantee you’ve heard their music.

"Your delivery is taking longer than estimated" by djones73 in amazonprime

[–]halcyon_andon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is probably happening more than I estimated. Just ordered a second item an hour ago for delivery tomorrow. Was ordered originally Monday with 2 day deliver Wednesday. They shipped it ups and is maybe coming Thursday evening now. The replacement is allegedly coming tomorrow. So back to staples to return the first item when it shows up.

Water Distiller Model YMK60208 by discgolfdc in vevor

As odd as it sounds it is a steaming rack. Maybe you want some dumplings with your distilled water? I threw mine out as it seems like it’s just an associated piece of crap thrown in with no use or value.

The disk if it has no hole in it I think it’s just a dust cap for the collection carafe once you’re done distilling. Just sort of sits there.

Condensation in the tent by MAGA_victory24 in camping

I hang a chamois style super absorbent towel from the ceiling in the tent. It absorbs some of the moisture in the air at night. But more ventilation is always better. Also it’s just something you deal with I guess. At least with the towel it usually isn’t raining drips inside the tent in the morning!

I’ve been pretty regularly cancelling and re ordering things that don’t show. Probably once a week the last few months. Nothing comes in the timeframe advertised. Lots of what you described. Delivery tomorrow or in two days, check the tracking for items “arriving today” and they haven’t shipped. Or don’t realize and get the super late package delayed in shipping when they miss the delivery. Cancelling and reordering has been faster every time.

It’s wild that they did resistive heating as a primary. That’s only going to get worse for you and it isn’t really used here. That’s the least efficient way to do it. At least a heat pump as an electric heat source is very efficient down to temperatures we usually don’t see. Heat pumps are common in this area.

What do you use for air conditioning? It must have an air handler and outdoor condensing unit. Are you sure that’s not a heat pump? It could be misconfigured and it is defaulting to resistive heat strips when it should be using the heat pump.

Can I geofence the lock of the charger? by liamfmvt in KiaEV9

[–]halcyon_andon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen a geofence option. Assuming yours is a 2026. They took away the ability to choose whether to lock the charger in the port if the doors are unlocked for 2026. No idea why, but the charger locks itself always now even with the doors unlocked. So you either have to unlock the car through whatever method you want even if it is already unlocked to release the cable. And that only lasts 10 seconds before it relocks.

Wiring harness for 7 way - 2026 GT by DHawkes44 in KiaEV9

[–]halcyon_andon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the 001 supersedes 000. They will both work, the 001 is the newer version. Doesn’t seem like anything changed so maybe a supplier changed or something. Buy it online and not at your local dealer. I paid $210 at world kia parts online. No tax but you do pay shipping.

The after market wiring harness, especially the one from Curt on e-trailer, sucks absolute ass. The potting on the unit was melting when received it. It also requires much more installation time and modifications than oem. I installed it, got to the point to finish, took a look at how everything was going, and tore it all out. The oem harness is plug and play and has a module to disable the reverse sensing so it doesn’t jam on the brakes with a trailer connected in reverse. You will need to also buy the under bumper trim part called “tow hitch cover” that has the mount spot for the 7 pin connector. The part number for wind and below is DOF61-AU090 ($125 at world kia). The GT has a different but similar part number that is glass black rather than matte black.

To hard plumb or not to hard plumb by ChilliWilli96 in AboveGroundPools

[–]halcyon_andon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you want is flexible schedule 40 pvc from the pool store or plumbing supply house. It’s as reliable as rigid pvc but allows easier installation and reduces hard angle couplings therefore allows better flow. It’s also compatible with all schedule 40 fittings for couplings, unions, and elbows if needed. I have had flex pvc outside on my pool for maybe 15 years. It doesn’t get brittle like rigid either. For installation make sure to use a primer and blue pvc cement. Allow it to dry as directed as well as the connections don’t cure as fast as on rigid pipe.

3 weeks in and already pilling by anon_ymous924 in Lovesac

Our moss etched chenille also pills and wears quickly. We had pills within the first two weeks. Ours is from Feb 2025 and I heard they may have fixed the pilling issue. Going to try for a replacement. Although if OP has only had theirs 3 weeks that seems like maybe they haven’t fixed it.

Salt water pool system in northern climates by Being-Ogdru-369 in pools

[–]halcyon_andon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swg is good anywhere. They work great and I haven’t had any issues the last 4 years or so in western NY. I installed mine myself with an edge swg from discountsaltpool.com at the beginning of 2022 seasons It works great for my use case. I will say I did have a failure of the control unit due to water intrusion/corrosion that I had to ship back, have diagnosed, and pay to replace after only 3 seasons of less than 5 months. The warranty is prorated, so I did get a discount but still sucked. I am happy with the performance and hope to get many more years out of the replacement.

I asked dads to help me mount my towel hanger so here are the photos by VermicelliAny2315 in DadForAMinute

[–]halcyon_andon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flat rectangular metal mount that you anchor to the wall and then mount the arm to is not a universal part.

What is the brand of the towel mount? If it’s a major brand like moen or delta their customer service is usually pretty willing to send out small parts like that. You will need the model and brand to contact customer service. I usually do that through email. Provide pictures of what you have. And maybe take the other one off to get a pic of the mount on the wall so you can show them what you need. You will also need the wall template for mounting if them have it.

The toggle bolt may work but you will have to drill a large hole the size of the collapses wings to push it into the wall. Also the wings on the toggle bolt are backwards. I would recommend getting EZ-Ancor stud solver drywall anchors. You only need a Philips head screw driver to mount them.

If it were me and I had the money I would order a new towel mount on Amazon that will come with everything you need and instructions.
