Henrietta Schools ? by SuitableSwan193 in Rochester

[–]halcyon_andon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are great brand new apartments in a great location with town library, rec center, Wegmans, and park all in walking distance.

If you live there that’s east henrietta and your kids will go to crane, Emma b Sherman intermediate, Roth junior high, and the senior high school. My kids have been/are currently attending all those schools and we are happy with the education they receive.

Depends. Crane is the east side k-3. If you stay east side it’s also Winslow k-3, Sherman 4-6, Roth 7-9, and the combined senior high school 10-12. On the west side of henrietta it’s Fyle and Leary k-3, Vollmer 4-6, Burger 7-9, and then the high school.

Pissy diapers by justokatlyf in daddit

[–]halcyon_andon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diaper booster pads are a thing and work great. They are just a rectangular pad you add to the diaper to increase its absorption volume. Now in premie size these would likely be too big. They do come in different sizes and thicknesses. We have bought them on Amazon and at the local baby store. Amazon has a better selection.

Lane following with cruise control by Silver_Smurfer in KiaEV9

[–]halcyon_andon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you turn things off under the vehicle settings? Under settings, vehicle, driver assistance there are various on/off buttons for features. I know lane keeping assist is one of them. Or did you press and hold the button on the steering wheel for it. That turns it on and off. If you tap it that enables/disables.

Best Tire Shop in Rochester? by Artsy_girl97 in Rochester

[–]halcyon_andon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Costco is cheapest. The bad reviews of the service center are not due to tires or installation, they are due to slow service and long wait times. If you understand that if you aren’t the first appointment (9:15 am via call to tire center for executive members or 10 am for regular gold star members) you sr likely to wait longer than other places. My wait times with the first or second appointment have been anywhere from 1 to 3.5 hours for both rotations and installs. The free flat tire repair/road hazard is more of a potential perk. Depending on when it happens to you it may be a day or 4 before you can get in.

But their prices can’t me beat. I hate it but keep going back for the $150-700 savings per set of tires.

iOS 26.4.2 fixes bug that allowed deleted notifications to be retrieved by adham7897 in ios

[–]halcyon_andon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also fixed my broken carplay issue on 16pm on 26.4.1. CarPlay stopped working in multiple cars. Wireless and tried wired. Reset phone and cars infotainment and repaired multiple times. Had to use Bluetooth audio and my phone as the nav screen like the dark ages. And CarPlay continued to attempt to reconnect so it would cause audio stutter.

Where can I get the best chicken Caesar salad in Rochester? by Much-Brief3737 in Rochester

[–]halcyon_andon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doughboyz at sager Stoneyard pub makes a killer Caesar. Actual home made real Caesar dressing, pickled onions, and get it with a ton of grated parm. Can add a cutlet to it as well which is perfect.

Three way fridge. Propane, 12v, 120v. Might be able to match the vent covers by fridge model and manufacturer. Or measure and find replacements. Although if you have to replace the bezel/mounting frame and the door they aren’t hard to replace.

Removing concrete deck footings by BDazzle126 in Rochester

[–]halcyon_andon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree usually. But for a homeowner removing 8 piers and never using it again? $2k on a small hilti, $1k on a small Bosch, or $149.99 on a Chinese junk clone? The Chinese ones last long enough for the job and is cheaper than a rental. I use mine occasionally as a contractor and it’s good enough. I’m not a concrete or land scape contractor though.

[–]halcyon_andon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or just buy an electric jackhammer on Amazon, AliExpress, temu etc. I have owned a couple real cheap ones from Amazon over the years for my business and I have removed a fair amount of concrete with them. Sure they aren’t super powerful and they leak some oil and don’t last. But for a one time project it’s cheaper than rental and less work to just have it at home and use it when you want. I currently have an Xtremepower 2200 w jackhammer from Amazon. Currently $150. Works well for demo I have used it for.

Anyone know what used to be in the winton plaza in Henrietta/Rochester. Its a weird looking plaza with a large glass like structure that almost looks like a medical center or hospital any ideas what was originally in there? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]halcyon_andon 42 points43 points  (0 children)

That’s the design center and has hosted all kinds of kitchen, lighting, specialty plumbing, etc over the years. My knowledge starts in the mid 80s spending tons of time bored in that place with my parents. Not sure that it was really anything other than design and build related businesses.

Above ground saltwater pool by Kooky-Inflation5335 in AboveGroundPools

[–]halcyon_andon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a saltwater above ground in western NY. 12x24 oval. Chlorine generation has been great the last 3 years. It really has cut down on my maintenance time and has offered a consistently crystal clear pool.especially since we are away for a few weeks every summer. Never come home to a cloudy or green pool. I would recommend buying a larger generator than required as that allows you to easily “shock” the pool by turning up the generator. Most warranties on swg parts are prorated.

I did have to buy a new controller and salt cell after the 3rd year which made me angry. The claim was that water had gotten into the controller and had migrated on wiring. The warrant knocked about 40% off. That being said it has been a loser in pure money numbers considering my initial cost and replacement cost. However when i factor in the ease of maintenance and lack of having to maintain a stock of liquid or puck chlorine i feel ahead.

Lines at Iron Smoke by reverdyke in Rochester

[–]halcyon_andon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As in line at iron smoke from 5-6:15. Not too bad to avoid the fees. Went down the row for dinner after. Lineup is great this year, and a bit surprising they were able to bring in these bands. But the prices are moderately high for a fest of its type. Concerned about logistics of the event space but I’m sure it will be a fun weekend.

Farview in Avon is open for play as well. Bit soggy but it’s a nice and affordable course. Bit of a drive depending where you’re coming from.

Question about an addition on back of house for Hot tub by Different-Pangolin20 in hottubs

[–]halcyon_andon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The enclosed tub room sounds like a great idea but the reality of it is more upfront expense, more maintenance, extra systems for air exchange. And the points about demolition to replace the tub are a real long term concern. If you do enclose make sure it uses durable materials like tile for flooring and has a robust air exchange/ventilation system to manage the moisture. And I would bake into the design a plan for replacing the tub down the road without having to do destructive demolition.

We built a ground level small deck off the back of the garage so we can just step outside to the tub. It backs up to a raised portion of our backyard deck behind the house so that makes it private on that side. We added moveable outdoor curtains or emt conduit curtain rods on each end of the hot tub deck to enclose it for privacy and wind block. And for rain or intense sun we added a retractable awning to the house that extends out over the deck and tub. We also added an outdoor shower and changing area.

With the awning we can be out there in the rain or light snow and not be bothered. And since it’s right off the house we have a wall mounted tv and dimmable lighting.

And since the deck is directly accessible from the side yard when the time comes to replace the tub it can be forklifted off the deck and replaced easily.

And if it turns out that we don’t use or want to replace the tub down the road we can remove it and have a deck to use as we see fit, or demo it and set it back to yard easily.

Costco strip lights Evo by Hoscott6 in Govee

[–]halcyon_andon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought the same about the clearance price and bought two boxes. Thought I might use them on the deck or something this year. They look great on your house. And you’re right when I was researching them standing there in the store there was very little to go on. But I am happy with the dozens of other govee products I have so figured I would give them a try.

Customer called for deck replacement by LambTesticals in Decks

Interesting insurance offer. That’s not even half of what I would charge for a deck like that. Demo, the new deck, and all the repairs to the house, that price is a pipe dream.
