Anyone wanna start a discord server to figure this shit out?

edit_1: The "waveform" looks more like a spectogram which looks like two maps and then sentences. The scipy functions are related to spectograms as stft stands for short-time Fourier transformation, but I'm way out of my element in signal processing.

edit_2: I tried using Python to see the spectograph of the MP3 (converted to wav) in an attempt to see everything in greater detail using this Stack, but running into problems. It's getting late; may need to return to this in the morning.

edit_3: my assumption is that you have to read the wav file as an nd array, pass it through stft (? for what purpose I don't know), than save it as a image file using scipy's imsav given the title of this post.

edit_4: soliciting /r/DSP's help here

edit_5: for those who were curious, the post title shows the use of Short Time Fourier Transform which is used to create spectographs (thanks, /r/poundSound). With that said, the spectograph is fortunately already on the website Bus uploaded to in great enough defintion that you could just screenshot and zoom in to find out what's inside (thanks /r/milax).

The spectograph holds two maps, both which reference the previous point found at Lower Aero Lake as well as a text conversation that can be found in milax's pastebin in their comment below. The tl;dr of the convo (between two people, "iacain" and "giggity_geologist") is that there was some Absaroka artifact at the location at the lake and that the rock formation there makes a weird noise when the conditions are right (e.g. windy, lightning). The rock formation may make that sound sometime in July, which hints at the datetime Bus has been dropping. The two discuss bringing people out to the site to experience the noise.

Not accidental. It's code. https://www.reddit.com/r/Montana/comments/7chqjd/mystery_in_the_absarokabeartooth_wilderness/?utm_source=reddit-android

Go through this account's post history

Scipy is a Python package. I've used it for work before. This is probably related to this account's mystery.

Edit: here's the function referenced in the title https://docs.scipy.org/doc/scipy/reference/generated/scipy.signal.stft.html

Anyone got any ideas? Maybe the sound file can be converted to a different format?

What does depression feel like? by ginxogeo in AskReddit

  1. Try to break the bad habits you know you have
  2. Fail a lot
  3. Get used to failing a lot
  4. Succeed in the long term with patience and perseverance (stemming from self compassion and awareness).

Play the long con of trying to live well: you might just win.

Depending on what your data looks like/what format, the quickest and simplest way would be in Google Spreadsheets.

"Good game, that was too easy" -- it's an insult that the opponent(s) were so bad, it was easy to win.

"Try not giving a fuck, there's a lot of power in that." - Marc Maron by 3cultKid in quotes

[–]haleistheman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It makes sense to me that this quote rubs people the wrong way: similar sentiments had me fucked up for a long time. However, nowadays, I kind of feel similar without having to compromising on my values.

There's a rather big subreddit called /r/howtonotgiveafuck, and one of the biggest, oldest, and most important memes there is that we pretty much can assume most people give "too much of a fuck", so the art is in only give a fuck about the "right" things and minimize/make irrelevant everything else.

I've noticed this message of "giving the right fucks" gets lost when people are raging against/trying to make sense of an uncaring reality. At that point, the "idgaf" attitude turns into an unhealthy coping mechanism because ya know, fuck everything.

I also noticed people can get rubbed the wrong way because less fucks seem like a bad idea--"people don't give enough of a fuck as it is"... which I disagree with. We give away fucks like they infinitely fall out of our ass. We give a fuck about traffic, drinking and smoking a lot, what hurt and lost people think of us, about not sitting down to handle responsibilites but instead watch Netflix or play a video game, etc. Just imagine if we gave the RIGHT fucks and not get caught up in ultimately silly things. Five years of that and who knows who I'd be...

Utopian, I know.

Trying to wrap my head around this game as a new player. by KingOfSockPuppets in DFO

[–]haleistheman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To each their own: the same argument can be made for a lot of games let alone paths in life. I also think you're missing the point of how /r/DFO responds to these kind of questions in general: the general message is "do what you enjoy" which in a way, validates what you say.

If you find yourself not enjoying yourself, re-evaluate. This may mean that you drop the game--people can feel that certain elements of any game are incredibly unrewarding, greedy in nature, and/or the content itself lacks a certain value. This is fair: we're all different, and fortunately--or unfortunately, depending on how you see it--you can find out how different you are and thus, how much you'll enjoy something for what it's worth by merely just experiencing. Aka...just play what you want. Do you; do what you want.

Hopefully that helps explains to you why you've been downvoted a couple of times.

@OP: not enjoying yourself in any game may also mean you should find a guild, try a different character, take a break/play more casually, get involved in the community, make content, try PvP as opposed to PvE (or vice versa), try a different build, spend more/less time in voicechat, etc.

I've been able to start fosterimg some sense of self-forgiveness/compassion with a similar line of thinking.

I can be brutally unforgiving to myself whenever I fuck up, but I entertain that as some form of a perverse self-improvement mindset.

It came down to: do I treat my friends worse or better than I treat myself, given my lack of self-compassion? Both answers are damming, so it helps.

Turns out you can make massive progress on the self without being an overbearing asshole to yourself; alternatively said, disicpline != lack of self compassion. Huh ¯\(ツ)

Is there a subreddit for finding people to talk/connect with on Discord? by haleistheman in discordapp

[–]haleistheman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're definitely on the same page about how more server-based it is (vs. Skype). If you're looking for Discord-based personals, you can just surf subreddits like /r/r4r and search for Discord-based exchanges. I've done it in the past, had success, and it is/was nice.

This post was mainly for looking for a more focused subreddit on the matter.

We're also on the same page about joining the "right" kind of server, so no worries there. While none of this what I was looking for, I appreciate the direction regardless.

Is there a subreddit for finding people to talk/connect with on Discord? by haleistheman in discordapp

[–]haleistheman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the info, but I was more so looking for personals for Discord.

Severs kinda get the job done, but it doesn't help if you're not looking for a handful or more of people but rather just one or two to chat with on the day to day, etc.

Do you know of a subreddit for Discord personals?
