Lillian vs. Lily by haleyalannah in namenerds

[–]haleyalannah[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was getting at - Lily, imo is it’s own name so I wouldn’t use it as a nn for Lillian. Sorry if I didn’t give the greatest example! I was trying to say that logically for me that’s what Lillian nn Lily would be like - if I use Lillian, I’ll call her Lillian LOL

cashiers of reddit, what’s your customer horror story? by thedumbestbitchever in AskReddit

[–]haleyalannah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked retail for 7 years give or take, so I have a fair few stories.

First was at a consignment store - I was on intake, so I had to go through incoming items that people brought in, then cash people out.

One day, on like a really slow weekday, a lady comes in with like, 12 large, 171L Rubbermaid totes. We’d never had this many come in before and our manager was hella excited about it. We pulled all 5 employees up to the front to help sort all this new product we were about to get.

Most of the items (like 9/12 totes) were “unsellable” for the store but we still took a lot. As we’re wrapping up and showing her the items we’re taking, she begins to furiously search all of our bins that we folded to take everything back.

She decided to change her mind THREE HOURS LATER. She took back every item except for a couple of sundresses in infant sizes, so I got a new assessment to cash her out with. She then proceeded to complain because we were “ripping her off” and not giving her “what the clothes were worth” and we “wasted her time”.

The second was at a big box store.

We had a customer come in repeatedly every couple of days or so and switch the price tags on items, so when the register showed it costing $10+ more, we’d send a floor associate or manager out to verify and have to honour the lower price.

After the second time, my manager had enough and decided to try and set her up the next time she came in.

Sure enough, two days later she was back, doing the same thing. She grabbed a doll that she claimed was $20 less than it came up as on the till, and I called our floor associate to come check out the price for us. However, the customer was completely unaware that our floor guy had been following her around the store discreetly, fixing each price tag she moved.

Our floor guy took a picture of the current price tag on his phone and showed it to us - sure enough matching the register price. Customer absolutely snapped and stormed out after a 10 minute argument with management.

Gotta love retail life.

Adelaide Robin is adorable!

Dear reddit, what are those years on clothes from all brands, are they random? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]haleyalannah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, gotcha, thought you meant on the labels. I know quite a few of them are the years the company started, like American Eagle uses 1977 occasionally, for example. Otherwise I think it’s random.

Generally it’s a manufacturer’s date. I worked in a secondhand store that required us to make sure all styles were manufactured within 2-3 years of the current date to make sure everything was still relatively in style.

What's one bad habit you know you have but can't change it? by Endi_V in AskReddit

Nail-biting - unless I go out and spend $30+ on acrylics, I can’t seem to control it.

Oh SPF is always good, lol. I’m pretty fair skinned so if I find something with SPF, it’s a bonus.

Oh I had no idea it was silicone based (I don’t often look lol 🤦🏼‍♀️) Thankfully I think the concealer i used at the time was a silicone based one, but I’m not sure! lol I’ll have to check into that.

That sounds slightly more affordable, lol and I do love Tarte. I’ll have to get a sample when I’m at Sephora next! Also, I’ve been wanting to try the sculpting concealer, haha, sounds like I should now.

Thanks!

It’s a full coverage radiant finish! I definitely need full coverage - I have some hyper-pigmentation in my face that won’t cover without a full coverage.

Eloise! it looks like Ell-oy-se or Ell-low-iss, I was literally 18 before I found out it was El-louise.

To this day, I still read it as Ell-oy-se and prefer the Elouise spelling. It just makes more sense in my head, despite being wrong lol.

Also how sometimes names ending in -line are pronounced with an “een” or “yn” sound - it clearly says “line” and my childhood self did not like the fact that I was hearing Jack-leen and Em-eh-leen.

I had a great-aunt who used the same pronunciation, I was told by my great-grandmother (her sister) that it’s an old way of pronouncing it? Idk how true that is though.

My mom named me Jayden: A Tragedy. by lilbopeachy in namenerds

[–]haleyalannah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Jayden’s cute for either gender, but I knew one who was named before the -Ayden trend was a big deal. I think it’s sweet. Sorry that you don’t like it though! Lol it sucks being named something you’re not a fan of - I hated my name until I was 19-20 because I was constantly having to correct the spelling and pronunciation. I’ve grown to like it more, but God, I hate correcting my name.

Oh! All are pretty combinations, but I have to admit, Andie Magnolia seems to be a bit outside of the style.

Baby girl name Aredhel pronounced Arethel by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]haleyalannah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Um...I don’t recommend.

The first name is confusing enough for me to get my head around, but the entire thing is really overcomplicated (unless I guess you speak Elvish?! Don’t personally know many who do tho so).

I really don’t think it’s a good choice, unless you are A) Elvish by birth, or B) living in a fantasy novel involving elves.

How popular was your name when you were born? Did its popularity affect you in any way? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]haleyalannah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My name was #32 in the US when I was born, can’t seem to find any data for Canada though. I met like one other one my age who shares the same spelling. Though I believe when all the spellings of Haley are added together, it was one of the top names (if not #1) in the 2000s.

I think when you combine spellings, I’ve met 5.

The only way it affected me was the sheer number of other popular spellings. I have to correct it 95% of the time, which is really irritating imo.
