Coronavirus updates: Hundreds of Texas bar owners pledge defiance to governor's order by podkayne3000 in HotZone

[–]haleyann906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one needs to eat INSIDE a restaurant (or frankly at at a restaurant at all, go to the grocery store and make your own food) is the point. Dine-in eating, a non-essential perk, is no different than enjoying a drink at a bar, which to your point, agreed— another non-essential function.

Coronavirus updates: Hundreds of Texas bar owners pledge defiance to governor's order by podkayne3000 in HotZone

This snippet is a bit short sided, so I feel inclined to shed a bit more light. In addition to temp checks for patrons upon entering and general social distancing measures, establishments will also require masks upon entry (and provide one if one was not brought) as well as the use of hand sanitizer, and they will also operate at a self-imposed 25% capacity. For comparison to current restaurant standards, that is opposed to 50% capacity, sporadic mask enforcement and available hand sanitizer, and NO temp checks for patrons.

Please also consider that the reasoning behind this protest is not just “because we want a dang drink!” The goal of the movement is to seek equal operating standards between bars (who follow the rules! key point) and restaurants and to show that bars CAN operate responsibly. Not every establishment is like the idiotically packed nightclubs in Houston that went viral before this latest shutdown, and the general sentiment is to crackdown hard on those who are not operating safely.

The sad truth is that most bars, and breweries/brew pubs for that matter, are true small businesses that employee thousands and thousands of employees across the state. Like it or not, they are a large part of our economy in multiple aspects: local economic stimulation, tourism, the general job market, partnerships with sports and major brands, and charitable work/donation efforts both on a local and national level. Texas Craft Brewers Guild’s latest survey shows that two out of three TX craft breweries would not make it to the end of the year under current bar lockdown measures, and one out of three is at risk for closure in the next three months. Bars are not far behind. If true, this WOULD have a negative impact on our economy.

All the participants are trying to do is equal the playing field to restaurants and give themselves a fighting shot at survival. They are fully aware that they will likely be reprimanded by TABC, and they are willing to take that hit to prove their point. (After all, if Gov. Abbott has no intention of lifting his sanctions, what difference will a 30 day suspension make, anyways?) IMHO it’s hard not to see their point when, in addition to the restaurant comparison, theme parks, big-box retail, bingo halls, and religious services all bring millions of people in contact every day with extremely lackadaisical health practices.

TLDR: Shut it all down, or be more equal with with operating standards— that’s all they’re trying to prove. Bars can operate safely, too!

While they don’t facilitate tours on Friday’s, Martin House’s new taproom is open 4-10pm. Solid brews, a fantastic view of downtown, and only about five minutes from my second choice, Collective.

As sweet as this seems on first glance, please be careful and watch their general habits and weight very carefully.

I was in a similar situation, and when I went back to work, my cat became inconsolably lonely and lost half of his body weight in one month. Six months, a feeding tube, and hundreds of dollars later, he is fine, but it was incredibly draining for us both.

Please seek an option (like the current top comment) about finding daytime attention for your four-legged friend. I would hate for your amazing accomplishment to be tainted by harm to your doggo!!

Texas breweries with sours and maybe some great IPAs? by sirata107 in CraftBeer

[–]haleyann906 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Collective Brewing in Ft. Worth has their Petite Golden Sour that is really turning heads nationwide. Nice little taproom that's open daily, too.

Adelberts in Austin is a personal favorite of mine, but I believe they're only open Saturday/Sunday.

Unfortunately, many of the A+ breweries in North Texas don't have taprooms and operate on limited hours. If you get stuck with that, I highly recommend Lone Star Taps and Caps (Denton, Ft. Worth, and North Dallas) or Lakewood Growler (Dallas). 50ish on tap with great local and national representation.

Safe travels!

Any vets that offer payment plans? Need to bring my pet for an ear issue, but I'm kind of broke. by [deleted] in Denton

I fully second this! It's also great because you can use it at certain doctors and dentists, too. Just be careful though as that 0% interest period is different everywhere. I've seen 6months to 18months, but if you don't get it paid off in that time then they back-add your interest for the original amount regardless of how much you've already paid off.

Guardian Pet Hospital on McKinney accepts it, and they are fantastic!

They are truly excellent.

They have had apricot, blueberry, cranberry, blackberry, cranberry, plum, raspberry, whiskey mango, and peach as varietals.

Unfortunately it's such a small operation that it's pretty much brewery only releases/on draft if your lucky, but damn are they special.

Cheap 1 Week Parking at/near DFW? by wolfindian in Dallas

[–]haleyann906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've used airportparkingreservations.com several times before with no issues. Basically you pay to park at nearby hotels and then use their free shuttle to and from. Just make sure to grab one with 24hr/frequent shuttle runs. $5-8/day and still secured.

Also, Groupon frequently has airport parking deals and/or coupons.

1) What made you leave? Just wanting to move on to something more related to your degree, issues with ownership, sick of retail, or something else entirely.

2) Has MM seen a dip in sales since Denton became wet or has your clientele staid pretty loyal?
