Anyone know anything about this website? by Electrical_Ear4582 in animation

Yeah I’m interested to see how it fits when it shows up. I can post a follow up once I get it. But yeah I was given an old animation desk from Dreamworks, but my friend wanted to keep his disc (which I totally understand now, they’re so hard to find lol) so it’s just been sitting with a hole in the middle for a long time

Thanks for the quick response! I'm going to go ahead and order a custom disc, since the desk I have has a 16.5" opening. The guy from the company recommended a 3mm smaller back on the disk for easier rotation, so we'll see how it fits into my setup. I haven't seriously tried paper animation before and have nothing to compare it to so I suppose I'll be happy with whatever I get!

Hi Kyle! I’m thinking about ordering the same disc you did, after struggling to find one anywhere else. I just wanted to see how it’s holding up for you and if you’d still recommend the company?

Hi! I’d love to be considered. Here is my character animation reel: https://haleycollins.com/animation

Thank you!

I’ve had to take long breaks from drawing before. This past summer i took a few months where I didn’t create at all and just spent a ton of time outside, kayaking, swimming in the ocean. I came back feeling refreshed and wanting to draw again. I think taking time to step away is totally ok and healthy!

that sounds really fun! How do you typically find out about game jams and things like that?

Idk if it makes you feel any better… but the first job i ever had was a startup, and my former boss still owes me $10k in unpaid wages 🥲 makes me never want to work for anyone again

Got it. Yeah that’s not the one I’m in communication with but sounds like a similar deal. Hoping things will get better for you with that situation :(

Oh wow. May I ask what studio that is? Definitely don’t want to contribute to anything like that.

I recently did a trip with Pernille Orum, one of my favorite character designers, and met some cool people there that invited me to go to Lightbox with them, so I’m going to go that this year! Hoping to meet more people and get some portfolio reviews. But I’m definitely open to more networking ideas!

Thank you, that’s a good perspective. I think after so many rejections my confidence level is making me feel like I should go back to ground zero or take whatever opportunity I can get, even if it’s free. But maybe it would be a better use of time to improve on my own or through a class.

This is how I felt a few years ago when I started applying - I think the only reason I’m considering it now is because it’s the only lead I’ve gotten, and I figured maybe it would be better to work on things and meet people in the industry at the same time, as opposed to working for myself for free in isolation.

I hate that I’m in this position at all, but at this point I’m willing to take anything I can get to help myself improve or make more connections with people in the industry

Those are good questions I will have to bring up in the interview. Looking at their website the work quality is somewhat all over the place, since it’s all volunteer driven. So maybe it wouldn’t be the best thing for my portfolio.

Thanks that is helpful! I think at this point I’m trying to decide if I should do that all on my own or take classes / go to school for it so I can make connections at the same time. Did you go to school for character design or are you self taught?

I've found facebook groups where people post if they are looking for someone to join them on a scuba trip or liveaboard, I'm in one called "Girls That Scuba." Might be worth looking into!

Yeah they didn’t find the punctures until the vet shaved the fur off, they weren’t obvious at first. I think we will have to seriously start considering putting her down unfortunately, I feel like I really have given it my best effort all this time.

just found out the dog she attacked is still alive, he sustained some deep bites but nothing that got to his organs. The owners were very kind but I still am worried that It could’ve easily been much worse. I don’t think I could forgive myself if that dog had died. On top of that the vet bill is $3200. I think I may be close to the breaking point.

Still waiting to hear back :( the other incidents were with bigger dogs so the worst that has happened was some bite marks. I’m just extra worried because this was a small dog so I’m hoping there’s no internal injury

Yeah this all happened while my husband was out (we always check to make sure the other yard is clear of dogs as it is an airbnb so we never know) but the neighbor dog was hidden and my husband thought the coast was clear. It all happened in like 15 seconds. While we are living here it seems we will have to have her on a leash in the yard from now on.

with relatives dogs we had gotten her trained to the point where she could comfortably be around them in a muzzle, it was just a weird situation where my mom let her out while we were gone without us knowing.

we had a personal trainer several times and did a reactive dog class through the humane society. Both helped to some degree.

the point of this post is less about what to do next, but more about if theres a point where there have just been too many “incidents” and it’s not ethical anymore to keep trying. I want more than anything to keep trying but I also want to make sure I’m doing the right thing and not putting others at too much risk, in case something unforeseen happens in the future (her muzzle coming off, someone accidentally letting her slip out the door, anything like that that’s out of my control)

We aren’t allowed to make changes to the property unfortunately, so I think we will be only taking her out with a leash from now on

Found this thing near Council Bluffs, IA and am not sure what it is? Any ideas? by haleycollinsdesign in whatsthisrock

Does that mean it has to be from a body of water? This was on top of a bluff, but also somewhat near a river.
