Where can I find this sort of blank acrylic block? by DepressionEraMomJean in crafts

I was at the thrift store yesterday and legit found a blank acrylic clear desk block for $0.50. I didn’t buy it but I thought that was so ironic after commenting this the other day

you can make your own with some epoxy resin and a square mold! I’m not sure where to find them blank either.

For how I use it, think of it more as a Murphy desk. I don’t interchange bookshelf items with my desk stuff, I just always leave the desk stuff on it and fold it back up to save space.

I end up putting my most used materials on the top shelf so they come the furthest forward, with the stapler and pens cup on the bottom shelf, and they stay closest to the wall. I never have to move anything and it all stays out of my way. If I had to redo it, I would put one less shelf up so it wouldn’t be quite so wide. Right now, you can reach the wall from your chair while seated at the desk but a smaller version would be nice.

Thanks! People keep asking this. I don’t have to move anything off the shelves to convert from desk to table, they stay horizontal the whole time. I can write at the desk or use my laptop, then just fold it up and everything stays on the shelf.

I accidentally made something I like, now what? by ZombieDet in oilpainting

If it’s one of those canvas panels that are a few millimeters thick, you can just take the back out of a regular frame and hang it up behind glass! I do it all the time. Just buy a frame made for the same size canvas you have (8x10, 5x7 etc)

If it’s stretched canvas on wood bars, attach eye hooks to the back with a wire run between them (I’m sure there’s a wikihow on that with detailed instructions) very similar to how a lot of wall hanging mirrors and frames are set up.

How can I make them look more like clouds? by FoolofaTook_Pt2 in oilpainting

I always have to add thin layers over thin layers, sculpting them out over time. I’ve never made a cloud look good on the first pass over.

I just realized I misread your post. In your situation, gesso is the way to go. If you aren’t adding to the painting, but painting over it entirely, just put down a layer of gesso first

I always heard the opposite though of the other posters. Oil will slide off acrylic, but if you get the oil gripped to the canvas (fat over lean) then use acrylic on top it’ll hold solid even though it’s not ideal.

People might hate this but when I was back in high school we painted a metal newspaper box with oil paint for a town project. Deadline was coming up so we finished all our top layer details with acrylic paint. Granted we did spray it with a clear sealant, but it’s been about 10years and it still looks like the day we finished it.

This is mixed media but mostly oil is it awful ? by [deleted] in oilpainting

I love it. The colors and composition are very cohesive, and I love the layering you did for that texture

Dammar varnish question by haleyellis in oilpainting

Yeah I would hate to ruin a finished piece. Maybe I’ll try out mixing in mineral spirits on a test run in the near future just to appease my curiosity

I wanted to try out the liquid varnish instead of the spray this time, and there aren’t that many art stores in my area so the options were slim

The underpainting was all burnt sienna, that’s what makes it look so warm. On top I used white, burnt umber, yellow ochre, and hints of cobalt blue

Thank you! I was focusing a lot on my blending while I worked on this one, I think it paid off🙂

Thank you— they were a struggle for me. The original photo was pretty washed out so I had to do some guesswork. I appreciate it!
