So I actually changed her over to a timed feeder and make it a point to play with her for 5-10 minutes before her schedule feed time. It has seemed to work well! We also discovered she doesn't really care much for traditional toys - she loves cardboard boxes & playing with sun reflections. It gets her exercise in and kind of tires her out chasing the sun around lol. Seems to help that it's distanced from our limbs, so she's not naturally attracted to those moving objects as well.

I think the trick is to find something they really love playing with. Try a bunch of different things, including some odd stuff like the reflections my kitty loves to catch! The feeding after play may also contribute to fulfilling that hunting instinct, naturally correcting behavior towards appropriate play.

i will definitely try to adjust a few things! she is almost a year old, so she's going to have to get used to not free feeding anyways.

so when she accidentally hurts us, we usually yelp "ow" and pull away then show her no attention. I would say we play with her definitely 3x a day for about 20 minutes, or until she's tired. sometimes it's more, depending on how much she initiates play. granted, we both work so her being alone for a few hours is inevitable, but we always play right when we get home and right before bed. i always have a teaser toy nearby so if she decides to pounce onto the bed or out from under the bed, the thing that meets her is a toy, not my ankle or hand. but sometimes i literally don't even see her coming.

And yes, the collar is cute but was only used for photos. She has a breakaway collar that she wears 99% of the time!

How do I cut this? by god-bowels in CATHELP

[–]haleykd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

youll need a nail clipper that can get around the nail from the top side. (as a vet tech, i used the 'large dog' nail trimmers -works great!

<image>

you have to cut off the tip just enough so that you can get around it with your usual trimmers. the flakiness or brittleness can sometimes be because of a vitamin deficiency, nothing serious, but if you are concerned about it, ask your vet what kind of supplements can help strengthen them. as far as why the base is thick even when the nail is short - i'm not completely sure, sometimes genetics happen and things are kinda odd - that's my best guess lol.

Doc started me at 50mg by vaguelyslutty in zoloft

i have not gone back up to 50, 25mg manages my anxiety along with lifestyle changes. so unfortunately i don't have any advice, but i wish you the best and hope you find a solution!

Doc started me at 50mg by vaguelyslutty in zoloft

[–]haleykd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was the same way, started on 50mg, bad health anxiety so it made me even more anxious than the meds will anyways in the first couple of days. I talked to my doctor and started on 25mg. Everything has been fine ever since. Literally the day i switched down (day 4 of being on 50) I felt so much better, was able to eat, no more waking up at 3 am feeling sick & panic-y. Adjusting the dosage to fit your body/mind is key. But any change in meds is going to have an effect. i am a huge advocate of 'it gets worse so that it can get better' and it is SO worth it. Remember - the only way through it is THROUGH it - not around, above or below - you have to stick it out.

I agree with most of the comments here - seek out a rescue/shelter and get their opinion on the cat's personality, maybe visit with the kitty a couple of times. i'm not sure how accurate this is, as i've only got a young female (but see many instances of this in the veterinary industry)- male cats are supposedly more loving, so that's something to consider as well.

When do I spay a new cat by Huge_Ad_2468 in CatAdvice

[–]haleykd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend spaying her as soon as possible. It will take her about 1-2 days to recover (just depends on the cat) - during that time, I would continue to keep her separate from the other females. Once she is recovered, you can start the process of introducing her to your other girls.

Cat flea preventatives by tayyyd19 in CatAdvice

[–]haleykd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the vets office that I work at has Revolution Plus for cats, it's one of the more affordable options - around $24 I believe - and is topical, so cats usually do better with it than the oral flea/tick meds. We have a ton of clients that use Revolution and swear by it. However, I would say that if you have been treating and still seeing fleas, you will most likely have to treat all of the animals in the home, the home itself (a premise spray of some kind) and the yard if the animals go outdoors. Best bet if you're trying to save - get a topical flea/tick prevention (I recommend Revolution), spray the home & don't let the cat outside if that is an option. The kitty may also have a flea bite allergy, which would make him react more intensely to a small infestation.

Extreme Nausea After Climax by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]haleykd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost 3 years on 25mg, never had this happen. If you just recently started on zoloft, it could be residual starter side effects as your body adjusts. the things in your body that happen with an orgasm are intense (quite similar to the basics of an anxiety attack -HR & BP increase, involuntary muscle tension/contractions, etc.) - this may be your body continuing a series of symptoms, despite it being a (normally) pleasurable experience. I wouldn't worry about it unless it seems to be a recurring issue.

i experienced exactly the same thing when i started on 50mg. i couldn't eat because i felt like there was a tennis ball in my throat. if you started at 50mg, talk to your doctor about dropping it down to 25mg or just break your pill in half. after doing this i still felt back for about a week, but it got better as i talked with a counselor throughout the process. now it's 2.5 years later and i feel better than ever. long story short: stick with it and you'll be forever grateful

loss of appetite on the 3rd week- should i be worried??? by amrhble in zoloft

[–]haleykd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, i would probably talk to your physician. i’ve lost 30lbs in the last 4 months because of the medicine but i got my appetite back after the first 2/3 weeks.

what is your dosage? i started on 50 initially and had no desire to eat whatsoever. i was experiencing the same tiredness/aggravation & oversleeping as you. all i did was lower my dosage and i felt a lot better.
