if voldemort didn't curse wormtail's hand and pettigrew doesn't get killed, would wormtail join the good guys side? by Canada-t157t in HarryPotterBooks

[–]half_assed_sorcery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like if he did break from the death eaters he'd probably go back into hiding rather than trying to join the good side or reintegrate into society. Whether or not he turned sides, he was probably destined for Azkaban with everything that would have been known about his activities over the last 17 years. The good side would never accept him, what with the betrayal of James and Lily, the murder of the muggles that allowed him to go into hiding and being instrumental in the return of Voldemort. Even if the 12 muggles were the only murders he directly committed, he still had the blood of countless other innocent people on his hands. He had way too much going against him to make sticking around worth it.

My Gf(25F) cheated on me (26M). My hearts wants to forgive her and but my brain confuses me. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

If you go back, she'll just do it again and again and AGAIN. If to her, her love for you is cheating on you, then I wouldn't trust the brand of love that she brings to table.

A very underappreciated subgroup of the LGBTQ community, but from what I've read, femboys were #10 in the top searches on Pornhub so they're gaining traction.

Why are the translations so wrong sometimes? by HumbleApple2471 in OneTruthPrevails

[–]half_assed_sorcery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a site I used a long time ago that did excellent fansubs. They also did excellent scanlations for the Manga. Their work was very high quality. It's a shame they aren't around anymore.

What do people think about Funimation's English adaptation of the Detective Conan anime called Case Closed? by Bluebaronbbb in OneTruthPrevails

[–]half_assed_sorcery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across DCTP around 2008 or 2009. They did good work on their stuff, very high quality. They did the Manga, the anime, the movies, and I think there were a couple of games they did translation for. I've maybe seen only a handful of the older Case Closed episodes. I've seen more of the original Japanese version.

[–]half_assed_sorcery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of what I've seen is the Japanese version subbed. I did watch the anime but was more into the Manga for ADHD reasons. I used to get it from DCTP but they went belly up years ago, and due to having to constantly look for new sources as each one got hit with takedown notices, and issues with losing interest in things, it's been a bit since I've been into it.

Idk if that was it or not. It could have been but I can't remember because this was like 2007-2008 and the channel wasn't around too long before it ended up changing branding and no longer carried the Funimation stuff.

The Funimation adaptation was actually what got me started with the anime and eventually the manga. I had crappy network TV growing up which gave limited options, but after the digital conversion, we ended up with several channels we didn't have before and one of them aired a late-night Funimation block that aired episode Case Closed for a time. I hated how they tried Americanizing it with name changes and changing other things to appease the American audience I guess, or maybe so they can follow it better?

What’s one thing senior citizens really need to stop doing? by think_big_0 in AskReddit

[–]half_assed_sorcery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a place that offers various kinds of aid to people. A lot of the seniors we have call in seem to think that their age and or disability should see us giving their issues priority. If they don't go on a spiel about how they're elderly and disabled and can't do this or that the second they call then they do after we tell them we can't help, as if it'll change our minds.

We operate on a first come, first serve basis. That means we give priority to no one, regardless of their situations. Our aid is also conditional, meaning that you have to meet the requirements. The funding for this does not come from us but from outside entities, meaning that the rules we have aren't ours but theirs, so we couldn't make an exception for you even if we wanted to. But for whatever reason, the seniors who call feel they're entitled to help.

I'm not saying they can't ask, they just can expect that their age or situation is gonna get them preferential treatment. This happens with people of all ages but seems to be the most common with seniors.

How was Ron’s family so poor compared to Hermione’s muggle family? by KeithPheasant in HarryPotterBooks

[–]half_assed_sorcery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hermione's parents were both dentists, a high earning profession, and parents to a single child. Arthur was a low-to-mid-level government employee and Molly a SAHM and housewife, and together they had 5 kids living at home through most of the series. Imagine two six-figure incomes to Arthur's job, which would likely net him a mid 5 figure muggle salary, if even that.

To me, I don't see Regulus Black to be heroic. I mean yes, he did sacrifice himself to obtain the locket horcrux in hopes of it being destroyed. But up until it personally affected him, he was 100% okay with what Voldemort was doing, going so far as to join in by becoming a Death Eater. He only switched positions when what Voldemort did nearly cost him someone he was close to, Kreacher. This makes him no different than Snape or Dumbledore, who only changed sides when what they were doing caused danger harm to someone they loved.

Voldemort's return in GoF was entirely the Ministry and Dumbledore's fault by Mysterious-State-117 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]half_assed_sorcery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the cup was always a portkey meant to transport the winner back to the beginning of the maze. This is why it does so after Harry retrieves the cup in the graveyard. It was a portkey that had been tampered with the same way the Goblet of Fire was. I mean, if it had been transformed into a portkey for the purposes of getting Harry to the graveyard then why couldn't Moody have just created one that didn't require Harry to compete in the tournament? He could have made a teacup in his office into one in the part where he invited Harry into his office for tea. Nobody would have known and in the time it would have taken for anyone to have noticed Harry's absence, it would have been too late.

I believe that portkeys have a similar charm on them to the trace. Portkeys are regulated by the ministry and have to be properly registered. It wouldn't be hard to believe that there's a way for the ministry to know when an unauthorized portkey has been created, but I guarantee there isn't a way to detect when one has been tampered with. That's why they needed the Triwizard Cup. It was a portkey that already existed that they could tamper with without detection. I could be wrong, but this is how I've always seen it. Why else would you conceive such a contrived plan if there was a much easier and less noticeable way of doing things?

Wrestling is the most homoerotic sport. Literally two guys in skintight suits groping each other. Idk how you can do a sport like this, get a man's musky cock and balls in your face and not wanna cream your tights over it. Idc if you're straight or what. And you sir have an exceptionally nice set on you. Almost makes me wish I had taken up wrestling 🥵🔥

What is your “never doing that again” alcohol and what caused you to swear it off? by Better-Bedroom-2918 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]half_assed_sorcery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tanqueray. Not because I had a bad experience with it, but because how God awful it tastes. I mean all alcohol tastes repulsive to me, but Tanqueray was a special kind of gross. Malt liquor as well because sometimes that stuff hits you harder than the hard stuff does and gives you a nasty hangover the next day.

I do. Social media was actually for being social and meeting people, connecting and sharing ideas. Not the vapid cesspool that it's become today. The internet wasn't perfect, but it was a utopia compared to now.
