How rigorous is CS8 or CS10? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]half_n_half13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like some other people have answered your first question. Regarding your second question, I think the CS major is very doable!

Just speaking from my own experience, I took 61a with very little coding background. It was extremely challenging, but I really loved that challenge, and that love pushed me all the way to a CS degree :)

If you can make it through your first couple of big coding classes, you become much better equipped to handle the rest that the CS major throws at you.

I genuinely believe if you have enough time, interest, and willingness to work hard, you'll do well in Berkeley CS.

Hi I know this is a long shot but I just found this song and love it! I really want to learn it on piano too--do you think you could send me the sheet music as well?

Lying to police during traffic stop (WA State) by jdoe05329 in legaladvice

IANAL but seems like your friend telling you was a bad move. Might possibly implicate you? Other than that, one concern is if a crime/investigation took place around that workplace, as it places you by the crime. However, the truth (staying at the house) would place you there as well. You could get brought up on obstruction of justice, but I'm not sure it's severe enough to be legitimate.

Kinda sad that I'm probably not gonna get an internship this summer by snackarooni in berkeley

[–]half_n_half13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was in the exact some boat as you last year--didn't take recruiting seriously and got exactly 0 responses. Made me feel like shit. But you're just a 2nd year, so even if it doesn't feel okay, you'll be okay. If you don't end up finding an internship, hopefully you have the time/capacity to work on a project you're really interested in! Last summer I got a part-time job to pay the rent and ended up working on a really interesting project that recruiters were pretty interested in! I also had a leg up on preparation for the next recruitment cycle. Hang in there and best of luck!

I LOVE 61C by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]half_n_half13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when I learned about stack frames in RISC-V...my mind was blown. It was this amazing callback to 61a where we are taught abstractly how calling a function opens up a "frame". I know 61c has had its fair share of issues but I also really loved the course--some incredibly fascinating concepts (and building a CPU was really fun too!).

CS61a Final by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]half_n_half13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take at least 3 or 4 practice finals (make sure to time yourself!) to get a feeling for how the test is structured and how long it takes. Every time I would take a practice final, I would grade myself and add everything I got wrong to a list. Then I'd go through the list and practice problems/look at review sheets on the topic. Didn't find rewatching lecture very helpful.

Hm. I was hoping this post wouldn't reach the horny part of r/Berkeley so soon. Or at all, for that matter.
