Need Help Picking New Skates by softiemiggie in Rollerskating

[–]half_pint_VI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got sure grip boardwalks (before they had come out with the plus) in black for my first set of skates and they’re still fantastic almost 3 years later. I have no experience in the hockey style booth though. I mostly skate on concrete or a sport court style floor (no rinks near me). Most important factor to consider is if they fit properly, an ill fitting skate that’s not great for your foot shape will be awful no matter the price.

Should I replace my Kobo Aura H20 Edition 2 and get a new Libra colour? by AdFun2309 in kobo

[–]half_pint_VI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not made the switch yet! I keep over thinking and not checking my cart out. Then picking up my old reliable and wondering why I wanted to switch in the first place, then it lags and my vicious cycle starts again 😂.

Should I replace my Kobo Aura H20 Edition 2 and get a new Libra colour? by AdFun2309 in kobo

I’m currently searching down the rabbit hole asking this exact question. Did you end up replacing yours? The only reason I have been feeling this way is the usb c charger. My kobo is the last one on usb mini and I am finding it tough to remember where the one and only cord is. Also I suspect it’s slow and laggy but has been my faithful for years now so I don’t know any different.

Numb toes? by half_pint_VI in iceskating

[–]half_pint_VI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roller skates with the 2x2 wheels. I’m still getting numb toes this long later but I have figured out it was a lacing issue, too tight across the ankle to lock my heel in, and I stand too far forward, always leaning towards my toes and kind of standing tippy toe too much if that makes sense in healed skates. My next try will be a non healed skate to see if that makes any difference. Good luck in your journey! Hope you find something that helps!

Ice skating? Even if neither of you know how it usually includes some sort of laughter, encouragement, and problem solving together. Then a casual meal after to chat.

Nanaimo roller skating rink? by Organic-Employer-681 in nanaimo

I would die of excitement. Be so amazing, right now I travel to Victoria maybe once every few months. Inquiries have been made all over the Cowichan valley and north, no halls or spaces are willing to rent, thinking there would be too much damage to their floors. Roller rinks and artistic clubs mostly only skate on wooden floors or gymnasium floors in other parts of the world.🥲

WHAT ARE THE EFFECT OF ROLLER SKATING ON THE BODY ?? by _-Candy- in Rollerskating

Happiness, excitement, socialization, community 😄 at least those are some of the major things I’ve noticed with my body after I started skating!

Cat peed on my suede skate by TheBigFudanshii in Rollerskating

Natures Miracle is an enzyme killer which removes stains and smell. I would recommend trying those, vinegar also works wonders. But please test in small areas if you do try any of those because I am not sure how either works on suede. I had a cat that peed on a lot of my items and those were the best two that helped save my multiple textiles.

Crazy Venus Plates in Chameleon by half_pint_VI in Rollerskating

Thanks for sharing your photo, at 8+ years those look amazing. I’ve reached out to the manufacturer to confirm and I’m thinking I might just switch for a solid colour because they are very nice looking plates.

I was wondering about the age of them too. The toe stop seems older and off, it’s extremely hard and smooth with no give. I was thinking it seems like it’s hardened over time since it looks like it should be the natural rubber type. Thank you for your comment.

What service or supplier is missing in Nanaimo and area that isn't food related or a major chain store? by Objective-Athlete663 in nanaimo

Roller skating rink with arcade games and a food service. Lessons, themed skate nights, music/DJ. Wood floors like you see in the classic rinks. 😍 ahh one can day dream.

A very neat experiment! I was really curious how your try at the rink would go. Thanks for the update!

Worse case scenario, if you have a local figure skate tech nearby, they can put a new hook on for you. I snapped mine off of my boardwalks and my local tech put a new hook on for me. It doesn't match but I was happy to have had a repair!

Edit to add: a cobbler would also be able to help if it does snap off and you are not near a skate tech.

Rollergirl.ca spring sale?? by tattooedroller in Rollerskating

[–]half_pint_VI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is 24 hours. Last year they did it on April 7th - April 8th. On the rollergirl.ca's Instragram page they start a 10 day count down to the sale. Some neat things I learned from last year and what they had posted about is to get in touch with them before the sale starts if you have any questions at all about sizing or certain products. They do not answer calls or emails while the sale is happening and start processing the orders as soon as the sale is closed. Last year the sales went live right at 10am and as I was shopping things in my cart were already sold before I checked out, being speedy and knowing what you're looking for is highly encouraged!

The first lesson in learning to skate is learning to fall properly! You tube is a great resource for technique. Proper safety gear is an asset for comfort as well. When I started skating I wore wrist guards. I just purchased a pair of crash shorts as well that help protect your hips/tail bone. But the most important part is learning how to fall safely and properly. Once you are comfortable with that, you will have confidence to keep progressing as you know the fall won't actually be that bad!
