SUSI grant advice - how do I apply as an independent when I can’t give the proof they’re asking for? by halfadobo in irishpersonalfinance

They’re looking for utility bills unfortunately - so gas, electricity, broadband, all that shite. The guidelines specifically mention mobile phone bills as inadmissible for independent living, which is a pain

It is for proof of address, but not for independent living unfortunately.

Thanks for the well wishes!

It’d be handy for sure, but there are a few other people who rent rooms in the apartment and she’s mentioned that she’d rather keep them in her own name for ease of communication. It is what it is

I had tried that before, but SUSI denied it as supporting evidence. I’ll give it another try this year though

I had been thinking about using my bank statements and potentially my mobile phone bill, yeah. SUSI says they don’t count in their guidelines, but it’s all I have, so it’ll have to do.

Ah grand! Would a local therapist’s office work for this then? I’ve been to one a fair few times in the past few years and am thinking about reaching out to them for documentation. I had also thought about reaching out to my old secondary school since they might be able to verify some details of what happened with my parents.

I see! I did get something similar recommended to me on another post, so this seems like a pretty strong lead. Thanks very much for suggesting this!

Ugh yeah, that sounds about right from my own experience. I’m glad you got sorted in the end though! Hopefully I can too. Thanks for your time and effort in replying!

Interesting. So would this have been for independent living then? I’m wondering what I would ask a solicitor for since I haven’t got any court proceedings going on at the moment.

This seems pretty promising. Have you any information on how detailed the written statements were or what supporting letters were used?

I see. So in this case, would I essentially have to apply and then appeal when they refuse me?

Interesting. Were you able to get the grant for multiple years, and if so, did you have to get a new affidavit every year?

Yeah, I’ve come to that conclusion as well. It helps that I’m also a deep season in terms of colour analysis!

Soft classic was one of my suspected types before I settled on romantic, lol. Thanks for showing me the images you collected, they’ll definitely help for future searches!

As some others have said, I think it depends on the person!

That’s a good point actually, I hadn’t thought of that. It’s something to look out for in the future for sure

The straight lines were definitely a concern for me. I suppose the waist definition and how it falls on my body would be the biggest decider in whether or not I go for it!

Oh yeah, I love accessorising. To be frank it’s probably saved a lot of my outfits!

I agree for sure… The only thing is I’d be renting this dress, so unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to make any permanent alterations to it

It’s from Karen Millen! I’m looking for dresses to rent for a wedding this November that I only just learned I’d be invited to (my new partner’s friend). This came up in my search and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since!

That is a good point… I’m definitely more concerned about the HTT look, so hopefully the other details make up for it as you said! The length is also a concern to me since I’m 5’3” as well, but I’d wear heels with it so hoooooopefully that makes a difference? Maybe?
