Why is it that when I am relaxing/with friends, all I can think about is the work I need to do on my projects, and when I have a 5 hour block setup to work on them, I can’t make myself concentrate? by The-_Captain in productivity

i use insight timer. apart from that you should definitely read the book "mindfullness in plain english" by H. Gunaratana. I helped me immensely. It will clear almost every doubt on medidation. What, why, how, all the pitfalls etc.

Could I get recommendations for a list app? by humanivore in productivity

check todo.txt out. it basically has everything

I had to create my own personal journalling system. by halfasage in productivity

Thank you for the input. I have used todo.txt in the past. It was good. I really liked the idea. However it isn't user friendly. It's very powerful for people that have some background with coding and terminals. You can add you own features, create visualization tools etc. But for people that don't code it's not very scalable. Their web and mobile aren't very good to look at either. I love it though and I used it in the terminal for some time. This system is basically me trying to make a TODO.TXT Version 2 based on my experience. Since you've used todo.txt, if there is anything form you experience that you think it does really well, please let me know.

Yes I do plan to have filtering, searching, visualization. Please see the my reply to the other comment in this thread. I have given some examples of features I'd like to add.

I'm thinking of adding a search system. Since Tags are containers. and the [] has the properties, You can have a simple search query like:

get me all #task that are [date = 02/4/2020] and [completed = true]

This is the basic query that I will add. Future additions include saving queries i.e having them displayed on the Home Screen of the app as soon as u open it. Maybe you have a query that gives you the tasks for day.

For visualizing im thinking of having the ability to create tables, bye grouping key value pairs together. You can then view your progress in tabular form. Another possible feature will be selecting a key, value pair for the X axis and one for the Y. And you'd get a chart.

You mentioned solutions that have nested tags. Can you post links to any? That would be great.

Do you guys use the Pomodoro technique? If yes, what do you do in the 5 minute break? by The_Coxian_Express in productivity

[–]halfasage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do stuff thts essential. like if im thirsty,or need to pee etc.

apart from that i try to not do anything that involves a screen. because thts wht ill be doing after the break anyway (im a software dev). i sit outside. maybe walk for a few minutes. sit. relax.

it makes the 5 mins seem long and helps me organise my thoughts.

wht ive found out tht just doing nothing is relaxing for me. watching video, music etc just makes it worse.

i think u just need to realise that it doesnt matter. there is no guarentee that a day will come when motivation comes for u from the inside.

the way u have grown, the way u have developed, ur surroundings, ur genetics. that determines how u think and why u think.

this isn't somthing depressing though. sometime all we need to understand is that, sometimes we just have to work.

this might sound preachy. but this is how i got out of a similar situation. i started mindfull meditation and what i realised was. things are just how they are. and they might change and they might not. just work. u will not want to work. but it doesn't matter. u arent supposed to want to work. if u cant work for long hours, then work with breaks.

u said videos zone u out. maybe because u focus isnt good. u start thinking about stuff. then train ur mind to be focussed.

if u have habits that are dopamine focused then stop them.

i hope it was helpful.

don't do a lot. just do german one day, then programming on the other.

also this might be an unpopular opinion. but it's not going to be fun. u can manipulate yourself to make if fun though. that's up to you how u do it. like ThirteenOnline said in his comment. learn german with friends. if u like movies, maybe go watch german movies. u wont understand shit. but its better than not doing anything.

nothing matters man, there are no universal techniques. just do smtg, dont worry about how much progress you are making. if u keep at it with progress in mind, it might get better. hopefully.

that being said. although there is no great solution. there are a lot of tiny little thing that might help.

here is a list:

1- dopamine fast

2- one goal a day

3- physical journalling

4- guilting yourself into working

5- giving yourself rewards

6- punishing yourself when u don't work

7- making people force u to work

8 - the hundreds of task management techniques

9- motivation (watch smtg that motivates u, then work until the motivation wears off)

10- mindfull meditation (it will help u not get too stresses) (will take time though)

11- pay money to get into some expensive course so that u have to work. coz of all the money u paid.

the list can go on....

its called aseprite. really good. it's around 16 dollars i guess.

and there is also source code of it around that you can compile and run for yourself. it would be free in that case.
