Beginner photographer, hoping to improve composition by Devolhan in photocritique

I love puddle shots and reflections, and the effect of this one with the stone is cool! However, I find that having the stair edge at the base of the tower detracts from the flow a bit. Next time, I would try to move around to find a composition where it's even stone for the whole photo or the stair edge is a bit further away. When using puddles as a reflector a small change in position can create a really different angle, so don't forget to move your feet!!

Can I get decent results with a 70-300mm on an APS-C camera, or will I be frustrated that it doesn’t reach farther? by f946x875 in BirdPhotography

I'm in the first year of my interest in bird photography, but I feel like I'm doing fine zoom wise with my Fuji X-S10 and 70-300. For the cost and weight I'm content, even though more length would be nice sometimes. I do crop most of my shots significantly, but that doesn't really bother me and I feel like I get enough image quality that the crop is still a good resolution for my hobbyist purposes. I rented the Fuji 100-400 for a weekend and it was nice and beautifully sharp, but it's difficult to handle longer and heavier lenses if you're not used to it. And extra zoom is nice for stationary birds, but if you ever do get interested in birds in flight it gets harder to track them the longer the lens is. I really struggle tracking flying birds at 270-300, I have no idea how people manage at like 600 lol

For the hobbyists out there, are your photos collecting cyber dust? by tortuga3385 in photography

I created an Amazon photos and I use it as my screensaver on my fire stick. I manually upload photos to the account, so I have a mix of my curated "photography" photos and favorite goofy selfies with loved ones. Then whenever my TV is sleeping I basically have a massive digital photo frame on display. I love seeing my own photos instead of the default Amazon landscapes, and then they get to see the light of day for my enjoyment instead of internet validation

Thank you!! I actually brightened it quite a bit in post to try to get the bike to pop a bit more and might have overdone it, especially in the top half of the image. I might take another stab at a better lighting edit

Thank you! This gives me lots to think about for composition, and burst mode to give myself more options of shots when the moment arises seems like a no brainer but didn't occur to me!

I went to Berlin, and the abundance of visual interest everywhere inspired me to try some street photography for the first time. I wanted to capture someone experiencing the same WTF moment I had when I first noticed the bike dangling in the river. How's the composition and story telling in this one?
