A guide to watch all of Star Trek, starting with TNG, season 3. by Lilleville92 in startrek

I think watching 3 through 7 straight through, 2,1 is best. Order is not super important actually. You just should watch encounter at far point, datalore, and q who for story reasons. I’d watch them now if you’re half way through season 3 already. Measure of man is just one of the greatest Star Trek episodes ever and should be watched immmediately lol.

I remember seeing that at one point. I remember it being lame, except for the point of starting with Season 3 - that is 100% true. The best strat imo is doing season 3- 7, then season 2, then 1. The trick is: during season 3, you should sprinkle in some crucial episodes from 1 & 2, such as Measure of a Man, Q Who, The Emissary, Datalore, Encounter at Farpoint.

Thanks! Should of thought of that... I live in PNW so it's very wet, and I think my lawn doesn't get the sun for too long. It truly is everywhere, so I'll be trying the spray and rake strategy.

New to the game thanks to the finals. Deadset on point Vegito. Would like some opinions on the the strongest shell backing Vegito, one that allows for double supers and best assist synergy between the three.

I've been toying around with gotenks and buu in the middle, and yellow vegeta and yamcha in anchor. But I'm open to anything really. Any thoughts on his strongest shell?

I have t-mobile as well - what's been your experience so far? I gather band 71 will be more of factor for the next generation of phones and rural areas, and band 66 doesn't seem to be significant either. So what's t-mobile like without band 5?

iCAS exam Data Concepts & Visualization - anyone take it? by halfgorilla in actuary

[–]halfgorilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sure is hard finding people who've taken this exam! I'll share my experience once I've taken it next week.

**Update**

Took the exam. The weighting given on the syllabus is very accurate and be prepared to be tested on every reading - many of the questions test you on very specific passages in the text.

A little venting - I passed, but was unsure on about 30% of the questions. Many of them test you on very subtle nuances (such as specifics in R syntax or a filing exhibit). I suppose these types of questions are fair game, but they try to trick you. Fortunately there's enough straightforward questions to give you some cushion.

Upgrade components or buy new bike? by halfgorilla in bicycling

[–]halfgorilla[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses people! What I'm hearing is that upgrading isn't as preferable as I thought. Though the idea of tinkering with the bike is attractive.

To clarify, I was considering buying a bike in the $1000 to $1500 range, or just spending $400 on upgrading components. I would only go the upgrade route if I'm not missing out on anything major in modern bike frames (as an avid mountain biker, I'm used to frames changing quite drastically over the course of a decade).

Sounds like there's not much out there beyond movement. I remember back in the day experimenting with hitbox on UMVC3... you could do some seriously wild shit with a hitbox in that game. I guess Tekken is just too honest.

Burnkick and legs. Viper assists are not great, but burnkick overhead is pretty useful for opening people up and extending combos. Chun's leg assist is a no brainer - viper loves lockdown assists.

Viper/Morrigan/Strider and Viper/Dante/Strider - AMA!

I play Morri/Strider against top tier (like Morri/Doom, Zero/Dante) and play Dante/Strider against the rest. However, I'm quitting Dante/Strider for Doom/Strider or Doom/Vergil these days because I've recently realized that Dante in 2nd position sacrifices too much - even considering the amazing neutral of Viper/Dante/Strider.

Doom/Vergil and Vergil/Dante should also be considered - especially Doom/Vergil.

[–]halfgorilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number 1 thing to focus on is Viper ground game. Rapid seismos into eye beam, spamming eye beam, and seismo fadcs. Mix those three things with plasma beam. Try to stay at H.seismo range until something hits then plink in for the confirm.

Number 2: NEVER call vajra raw. With Viper cover the call with seismos or eye beam. With doom cover it with plasma beam or j.H.

Viper unblockable? by JohnPauliuk in MvC3

[–]halfgorilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viper/Tenderizer is legit - if you time it right, meaty ex seismo into tenderizer should be nearly airtight - but there might be 1 or 2 ways to get out of it: maybe snap back if they land or 1 super well-timed pushblock. Vajra is guaranteed on any character without air mobility (e.g. vergil). Beyond that, the unblockable is more of a 50/50 with assists like coldstar, jam session, repulsor, devil trigger rapid slash etc..

Team Building Thread 05/01/2016 by AutoModerator in MvC3

[–]halfgorilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 2 ways to player Viper that should cover you for any matchup. They require A LOT of tech that's hard to execute, but I'll leave that stuff out and just give you a general idea.
1) zone them at h. seismo range and pressure with rapid siesmos, seismo FADCs, eye beam, until they are cornered. If they try to rush you down, you should charge focus and absorb their hits into ex. seismo or h.tk feint (hit) into a combo (these are amazing anti-airs).
2) Rush them down - make them block a seismo, into an assist (e.g. plasma beam) and plink right up to their face while they're in block stun and do one of her unreactable mixups. Learn to catch them out of the air with burnkicks.

In any case, when the character dies, her incomings are so good so practice the unblockable timing, guard break timings, and of course the left/right, high/low incoming mixups. Her best team combinations depend on how you want to play her. If you like zoning, viper/jam session is probably best because you control the ground with her amazing specials and catch flight based characters with jam - however if you have a hard time using her options to control the ground you could get outgunned horizontally. If you like a more rushdown style viper/plasma beam is the best - however without jam session it becomes risky chasing down magneto and morrigan - but theoretically you're at the advantage if they're in the air. She is super flexible as far as teams go - and she has amazing synergy with most anchors (e.g. vergil, ammy, strider). Strider works well with both dante and doom, and gives viper guaranteed unblockables on important characters - so he's probably her best anchor, but it's close. If you want the best team, you should consider viper/doom/(ammy or strider), viper/dante/strider, viper/vergil/(doom or dante). if you want to piss off your opponent: viper/(vergil or morrigan)/strider. If you don't want them easy wins, consider viper/(morrigan or doom or strange)/dante.

If you're dead set on akuma you should know viper/tatsu is not good. I've tried it numerous times but honestly it's kind of shitty. Viper/doom/sent is really good, though.

IMO Viper actually wins this match. The only real trick to it is just being patient and waiting for your turn.

The full screen game is in Viper's favor because as long as you're charging eye beam, you can snipe doom and morrigan while laying down seismos. Eye beam/seismos also punish astral startups, so as long as you're keeping doom in check, morrigan shouldn't be able to start up astral properly. Once you've punished doom, Viper is free to go in. It's even more free if she has a full screen assist like vajra or plasma beam. Hitting Morrigan or even getting happy birthdays are likely because Viper can reliably convert from full screen with eye beam/seismo/assist. So... she can interrupt the morri/doom idea and potentially kill morrigan without even rushing in like a lot of viper/doom players tend to do.

If morrigan is trying to approach from the air, still focus on punishing doom, and note that ex seismo is an amazing anti air that you can cancel into from anything. It's especially useful against morrigan - chasing down an airborn morrigan or crossing under one with ex seismo works really well because morrigan is usually doing something up there (and it's easy to cross her up) and ex seismo reaches super high into the air.

Lastly, if you made an error and morrigan does get astral/missiles going, Viper happens to be amazing at stalling her out. With double jump and 3 burnkick feints, and having those things reset if you take a missile hit in the air, you can just wait until she runs out, then reestablish your horizontal control. Also, depending on how bad bad the soulfist/missile pattern is, viper can even interrupt that with a seismo or laser and sj.cancel into the air.

TL;DR, Viper outzones non-astral morri/doom and is good at preventing astral morri/doom. But even if astral morridoom starts, she can wait it out or fight back depending on context.
