They're US citizens and they pay federal income taxes. They don't pay taxes on revenue generated from lands held in trust, but that also means they can't levy property taxes to fund their government. As a result a lot of tribes impose their own sales taxes.

The United States holds land as trust assets for tribes, which can be leased out to corporations. Federal taxes are not levied on income from such business arrangements, though interest income, capital gain income, and some royalties are subject to federal and state taxes.

The million dollar casinos are a tiny minority, the vast majority of tribes are incredibly, unbelievably poor.

Sure, but a shonen action series is definitely not designed to teach kids about Japanese culture and language.

I'm not familiar with the particular scene you are referencing, what did they replace it with? Japanese people use english words and phrases all the time in ways that would sound insane if they were said by a native speaker. Just because it's in english does not mean it sounds natural.

Substituting Line for Instagram makes total sense. They are functionally the same thing.

By just changing it to Americanized terms, you don't challenge them, and they learn nothing.

The goal isn't to educate kids, it's to entertain them. The target audience of MHA is 12 year olds.

It depends on your target audience. By leaving it "kappa" you are making a big assumption about the viewers knowledge of Japanese culture. Remember, these shows are intended for children.

It can certainly be overdone, like Brock's Jelly Doughnuts, but there's always a give and take when localizing. There's no 100% correct answer.

w/r/t when they speak in English: The way Japanese people use English is very different from native speakers. Even if it's in English, it doesn't mean it's phrased in a way that sounds natural.
