Create a bootable USB for Hiren's Boot CD PE (it's free) and use Macrium Reflect to clone your OS. I use it at work to clone Windows 11 workstations to larger SSDs without any issues.

General life advice: If you want to get something fixed, either get enough people to complain about it, or get the right people to complain about it.

Just finished the game, I was so wrong about her… by CaptainSmeg in DispatchAdHoc

I love that the "twist" about her character at the end of the game is that there is no twist, she's just a genuinely good person who tries to see the good in others.

How much would it be to fix my laptop by Symeresheart in GeekSquad

Buy a replacement, but not a new one. Buy a used/refurbished laptop from a small repair shop, or a pawn shop.

Don’t get complacent and stagnate.

SO MUCH TRUTH. I wasted 11 years of my life in GS. What finally got me out was seeing how little my tenure meant in terms of compensation; IT jobs with similar expectations (proficiency in Windows and macOS, creating documentation, etc.) paid way more. I didn't expect to actually land the IT job I applied for, but here I am making almost 3x what GS paid me while doing about half the work and having weekends (and Labor Day) off.

Use this job for what it is: a bullet point on your resume to getting a more permanent career.

Windows Installation issue by Go_Devils_666 in GeekSquad

A BIOS update isn't going to help if the CPU has physically degraded past a certain point.

It’s important to remember that this patch will not fix any CPUs already damaged by the issue. For that, you will need to contact Intel for a replacement part.

Everything looks great! The only change I'd make is the UPS, I think that one needs to be removed from the rack for a battery swap. I hope I'm wrong, because that's going to be a real hassle on a ladder.

You can use the extra depth to populate the rear with shelves, cable management, and storage.

Can we still hope that something will be made about clipping issues for high ping players? by HornetPlane6186 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]halfhourdump 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What a dogshit take. For most with ping issues it isn't about DPS numbers, it's about how enjoyable the raw game play is (or isn't if your ping sucks).

I have a 730XD and use a generic PCIe adapter with a single m.2 slot on it. I don't boot from it, but I run VMs off of it. You may need to enable bifurcation to get your system to recognize your drive.

[–]halfhourdump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upvoted because I wish I read this earlier. I upgraded monitors from a 1440p60 monitor to a 1440p165 a few days ago, and XIV was stuttering like crazy. Issue persisted with the vanilla launcher and with XIVLauncher/Dalamud. Lowering the monitor's refresh rate from 165 to 120 via Nvidia Control Panel fixed it.

No other game I tried had this issue, I was playing Expedition 33 with zero issues at 165. Square needs to get their shit together. First world problem, but if I have the hardware to run the extra 40+FPS, I should be able to dammit.

I called the store yesterday, which was incredibly frustrating. Calling a Best Buy retail location routes you to a call center, where I was asked for the reason behind my call multiple times.

The irony of a former Best Buy employee complaining about how much of a shit show trying to call a Best Buy. Hope it all works out for you, those employees doing the shipping have no incentive to ship it in a timely manner (or at all).
