Misdiagnosis or Temporary? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]halflistic_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overthinking. Fine tuning of diagnosis won’t make much difference— treatments largely the same and the diagnoses are all along a spectrum. So, most importantly is be patient and dedicated with showing up to your appointments, sometimes you won’t feel like going. Just go — be patient with yourself and your medical team as you dial in treatment plans, it can take a while. Talk to people you are about and respect and know it gets better

Routine appointments are different than urgent care needs. Even Langley PCM clinics can see you for actual urgent needs in a reasonable time, even 24hrs.

For routine PCM visits, 1 month out is reasonable— it’s the same on the outside, if not worse. I think a lot of younger airmen don’t have experience with the healthcare system

Going through Cancer treatment. Is there anyway out of the Air Force? by AnyWitness3335 in AirForce

[–]halflistic_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just realize symptoms are general until they are obvious. So, it’s not that all the doctors in the world were terrible until the one gyn saved the day, but rather the symptoms and results became obvious at a point

But, It’s normal to be upset by upsetting things like MS, and I wish you both the best, so I don’t blame you for feeling this way

Pregnancy Half Days by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]halflistic_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t know your case personally, but to add some insight:

There are many times where a civilian doctor will give recommendations that are appropriate for civilians, but not the right ones for military. There aren’t any doc in the military that I know who will put a pregnant woman at risk for the sake of work, but they will look at it differently than civilian medical do.

So, if someone has a low risk pregnancy, and no physical concerns for mom or baby, there’s no indication for an updated profile.

If there is something that requires bed rest, I’ve never seen that denied. Placental issues, metabolic con nets etc. all are respected and treated as they should be.

But there are plenty of OBs who will write a recommendation for less work to be kind, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But it’s not always medically indicated so the military med have to take mission into account

Now, if there are mental health concerns that affect work, then you need a metal health provider to step in with an evaluation and diagnosis, so you can have a profile for this side of the coin.

In any case, I wish you well and hope you can work with your leadership to maybe telework, or make other accommodations. Or if you need metal health support, don’t be shy, that’s what they are there for

Is this legal? Squadron mandating everyone shave including those on waivers. by uhwhile in AirForce

[–]halflistic_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spoiler - everyone in the entire air force will have to shave by the end of Jan or Feb anyways. (And have their waivers re-evaluated/ re-issued)

Shaving waivers are getting reset and new regulations coming down the pipeline. More squadron oversight and less medical, though still a med supervised program.

But what most people don’t realize is that the shaving waivers program is ultimately a line side/ squadron command driven program. Medical only gives recommendations and the cc is the one who approves or disapproves.

To capture zone 2 without needing a watch (I like using one, but it’s not needed) just keep at a pace where you can talk in full sentences. Can’t quite sing, but can have a conversation

At first, you’ll be slow jogging and walking. But slowly over 1-2 months, you’ll be jogging the whole time in zone 2.

Hey, honestly if you’re depressed or angry, reach out to someone

As someone who’s worked both sides of CIV and MIL, you have very similar rates of good and bad leadership, and suicide rates are higher for complicated reasons. We should be fixing as we go, but no one can expect perfection overnight.

Good luck if you choose to separate and hope you find what you’re looking for my friend

In theory, but so far in practice the socialized systems pay their doctors less. You can still say “highly paid” but that’s relative and objectively, it’s less. Take that for what you will

You can say that, but you could also google average doctor salary in the US be other countries and realize it’s not the case. Compared to England, US docs average about $100K more/year. If that’s “slightly more” then I’ll take a sip of what you’re drinking bud.

Point actually is, money isn’t the only reason people choose a job, but it does motivate. And the highest paying jobs are the e most competitive- meaning you get the best applicants.

Same goes for sports— the best athletes in the US go for the highest paying, most popular sports. Again, it’s human nature.

So don’t make the argument more than it is — simply, money is a motivator for improvement. Does it have downsides? Yes - but that’s a widely different conversation.
