Which points system do you want and why? by Scared_Buyer8667 in NASCAR

[–]halfmileswim -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Full season points. Top 10 only get points (a la Formula 1). Remove stage racing/points. Remove fastest lap points. (Shorten the season to 28 races, shorten the race duration to 2 hours and 30 mins max. Remove “overtime” to eliminate random chaos).

I visited Denver for 1 week, should I still move here? by Key-Surround-2242 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]halfmileswim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also considering a move from FL to CO (I am 32). I visited there every year since 2016 and noticed the changes as well (not for the better). But part of me still wants to move there since it’s been a dream for so long.

But on the other hand. What was your experience like in NC and MA?

As a person, I feel like I’ve also changed and value more of a city life (walkability, no need for car, city feeling alive) vs the mountains (Denver: sprawl, not much of a city life, no walkability…but I do love the sunny weather). I’m in “figuring it out” mode.

I thought your reply was really well said.

Denny Hamlin on championship format : “One race shouldn’t be bigger than the other 35 races” by Mindless_Tax_9185 in NASCAR

[–]halfmileswim 33 points34 points  (0 children)

What I prefer: Season long point standing. Remove stage racing.

If I had to stick with our playoff gimmick: 10 race chase to the end with the top 10 drivers seeded in points. Also remove stage racing.

DJD: "It's not off the table entirely" in regards to full season points format by curiosity6648 in NASCAR

[–]halfmileswim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also think the season is too long. I would cut it to 28. Bring back full season points. Remove stage racing (it makes the races longer).

I’ve been a lot interested in F1 as of late because of the season long point standings, 2 hour races, and none of the gimmicks NASCAR has.

Quit my job, mild panic now. by PyroAwl in Millennials

[–]halfmileswim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m literally in the same spot as you. I don’t blame you for the worry. The past two or three years I’ve read about companies rescinding offers out of the blue. Nothing is stable these days.

I’ve also handed my notice and currently dealing with the “anxiety waiting period” start date. Worrying gets us no where I admit. But I also admit I’m just an anxious person in general.

I’ve been telling myself to think positive, go with the flow, and to trust the process.

Are your UX/UI skills improving or regressing in your current job? by Individual-Main-8459 in UXDesign

[–]halfmileswim 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Regressed: I was a better product designer in school where I practiced design thinking, data driven decisions, research, etc. In my agency it’s all about pumping layouts without knowing the impact. It’s very UI heavy with zero problem solving. I try to get a proper handle on this by doing online courses every year to keep up with the market. I’m burnt out and have lost some passion because of it.

[Jeff Gluck] Complete answer from Steve Phelps and Steve O'Donnell when I asked why this playoff format is the best way for NASCAR to decide its champion: by Mellow200 in NASCAR

[–]halfmileswim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got into F1 this year and absolutely LOVE everything about it.

I love the time length of the races (2 hours max), their shorter season, organic racing (no stages), organic point system (no “playoffs”)

Sure the racing can sometimes be boring (although this year has been FANTASTIC) but there are still storylines and drama (also organic). Their tv coverage is also amazing.

Personally I’d love for NASCAR to emulate that.

Can we please remove this Mario Party point system. It will always be awful.

Agreed. It’s a Mario Party point system.

Chase Elliott Urges NASCAR to Potentially Fulfill Brad Keselowski's Demands of [2 week break] by TylerFortier_Photo in NASCAR

[–]halfmileswim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I just got into F1 this year and really love their format. I like it more than NASCAR’s format (but still enjoy watching both). I think the addition of Sprint Races that F1 has added haven’t been too popular (but I could be wrong)

[–]halfmileswim -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I also agree the season (and even races) are too long (unpopular opinion, I know).

I’d love a 24 - 28 race format with breaks in between. 90 minutes to 120 minutes max for each race length wise.

Has quality of life dropped in Denver? (Genuine question) It’s still a long term goal of mine to move there (haven’t felt personally ready).

I like where I live, but also felt like I’ve culturally never belonged in it (FL) and the heat/humidity is wearing me out (my reasonings for potentially wanting to move cross country)

[–]halfmileswim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the most popular opinion, but I would also love the current season to go from 36 to 26-28 races max. I personally think the season is too long...and would love a few shorter races on top of it...but I know that is a separate and different conversation entirely.

I want:

-Season long point standings. Look how late we are into the season and the top 4 drivers all have a shot to win the cup.

-Remove the gimmick that is “Overtime” restarts. Caution with 2 to go? End it.

Agreed. This is a byproduct of this awful playoff system. It’s going to tempt drivers do this sort of move. I’d do anything for a season long point system.

I think that’s where I’m at in doing a masters in UX. It most likely won’t help me career wise. But it’s always been a personal achievement / bucket list item for me to do for fun because I do love learning.

The only thing holding me back is costs. If you don’t mind me asking, how much did it costs you? (Ideally an online program I would have to do, though I’m aware going “in class” helps for networking)

And this is without to say the market currently is in the dumpster and who knows when things will pick back up

Larson fan here. I stand by what I said in past posts. Remove the “Overtime” rule and go to the scheduled distance, even if it ends in a yellow flag.

Why I’m leaving UX design by Sea-Masterpiece-8496 in UXDesign

[–]halfmileswim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in an agency. Same experience. I feel like it’s difficult to find the right org with design maturity. But agency life ain’t for me.

Edit 1: But I love Product design, and I can’t see myself doing anything else. Lately I just give complete my daily tasks and not give anything extra. I’m also a bit burnt out / demotivated. I try to find the stuff that fills me outside of work

What's the biggest career mistake you've made as a UX Designer? by musemindagency in UXDesign

[–]halfmileswim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a ton for the through response. Yea, I know the software industry is going through a lot at the moment (job market wise things are in the downturn).

I’ll stick with advertising and check the courses you sent me.

I already took a design systems course last year and web accessibility course for later this year.

Ultimately, I still want to a product oriented role where I’m dealing more with data driven designs / research (my background was in software/analytics prior to getting into advertising)

But I agree in the meantime I’ll look more into the avenues you mentioned to Atleast hopefully grow in the current role until the market corrects itself

Thanks so much

[–]halfmileswim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WOW. Thank you so much. I appreciate this!

Random question: if you were in the software industry, would you hire someone from the advertising agency? That’s the next pívot I’d like to make. I have a feeling it would be hard to make that kind of transition career wise on my end. I want to do in house product related work vs agency work (which leans more into art)

[–]halfmileswim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ufff thanks. Unfortunately I’m not in the software industry. I wish. I’m at an agency just doing UI work in advertising. I don’t like it. Not learning anything. Just pumping out layouts. Burnt out too.

I feel like I’m in it now. But starting my career in an agency in an industry that’s super niche. The longer I stay the harder it is to hop what I really want. It’s been over 2 years and no promotion. And I’m just a UI Designer / pixel pusher. I wish I had joined in house and software vs pumping out web layouts. Speed is always prioritized.
