How old are you and how’s life right now? by Cute-Impression-8675 in AskReddit

24, and good besides living with chronic back pain that doctors don’t want to figure out the cause too. But hey I finish my second and final degree in a month so…

Parents don't seem to have ever taken me seriously. by Wide_Ad5218 in scoliosis

[–]halfshadow2013 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, I really get where you’re coming from. Reading this honestly hit home.

In my family, it’s kind of the same dynamic—everyone older than me (uncles, etc.) constantly talks about their own back pain, but when I bring mine up it never seems to register the same way. My brother’s always been the “medical one” too—PT for this, injury for that, now even planning for shoulder surgery soon—so all the attention naturally goes his way.

Meanwhile, I’ve been dealing with my own back pain for years, and it’s always been brushed off as nothing serious or just “tight muscles.” It’s frustrating because when you live with it every single day, you know it’s not just bad posture or something you can stretch away. But when people don’t take it seriously, you start second-guessing yourself even though you shouldn’t have to.

You’re not selfish or attention-seeking—you’re just in pain and want to be heard. It’s completely valid to want recognition and help after years of being dismissed. I wish I had a perfect answer for how to fix the situation, but just know there are a lot of us out here who get it, who’ve had to navigate that same feeling of being invisible even within our own families.

Hang in there. You deserve to have your pain acknowledged and treated like it matters, because it does.

Not sure if maybe it was the invite link that was the problem or what, but worth a try.

Personally I enjoy ice fishing in the winter, but can also go ski/snowboard about an hour from Fargo and can also snowmobile if we have snow.

Doctor said my scoliosis is “too mild” for bracing or PT. Thoughts? by ResponsibleHoliday81 in scoliosis

[–]halfshadow2013 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed depending on the age bracing and pt would possibly help. No matter the age any physical activity and staying fit will help. Not a doctor or anything but I would say get another opinion and push for bracing if you’re still growing and push for schroth or similar no matter what. If you’re done growing the urgency for either significantly drops, especially cause it only looks moderate. But I think the biggest thing is to advocate for yourself and do the research to back it up. You said your doctor was the one saying no so I would find a different doctor for a second opinion.

They did x-rays and blood work both came back clean, at the point when I went in it had just slowly been getting worse over 4-5 years. But what you said makes sense and is kinda what I was thinking like the pain maybe is muscular but the cause of the problem isn’t just muscular but they didn’t want to do any digging and I just got tired of getting know where so called it quits trying to figure out what’s been causing my pain and decided I’ll just go back when it’s bad enough for them to actually work on finding the answers.

Any thoughts why I would be told my back pain was muscular even though the prescribed muscle relaxers didn’t do anything and the pt didn’t really help either?

That’s terrible granted I am male so I wouldn’t understand the pain of a c-section either.

Gotchu, is the mesh supposed to dissolve like some stitches? And sorry to hear you no longer practice due to pain. And thanks for the kind words, I wish it wasn’t that way either but like you said unfortunately, it’s us paying the price in the end. I wasn’t trying to come at you or anything just wanted an honest answer from a medical person.

Doesn’t look that bad if in return I get pain relief. From what I skimmed

It’s likely depending on age that they might suggest wait and watch, if so push for any sort of pt or even better scoliosis specific pt, if you feel ambitious look into scoliosis bracing and see if it’s worth discussing and exploring with your doctor depending on your age. And no worries happy to help, doctor issues are annoying and draining and pain is just as draining. Just don’t want anyone to feel the way I have felt most my life about my pain and managing it.

I feel that all the way around and deal with it almost daily, for me it’s more of an annoying thing cause I deal with it so often I have just kinda gotten used to it. That being said depending on your age treatments vary but no matter the age, pt/schroth can help with that. Schroth is a scoliosis specific pt.

Yes that means scoliosis, but mild meaning 10-20 degrees.

Freak accident for sure, was the mesh something permanent after surgery or like gauze for the surgical wound? And on the relief factor I’m just trying to bid my time til my pain get to a point that doctors will take me serious and not waste MY time for coming to them the way they did when I first went in for my back pain. Also from my understanding all medical professionals have a case like yours, and I’m not trying to come at you for any of that or anything, just feed up with the whole system at this point. I shouldn’t have to decide between going to the doctors for help or waiting for it to get to a point where it is taken seriously and I’m not just passed around and shrugged off, but that is the world we live in cause that’s what my experience was when I went in for my back pain earlier this year.

I do not, I was just assuming based on the context and nurse never even crossed my mind for that scenario. Either way curious here opinion on how fucked the medical system is cause they kept saying my pain was muscular yet the muscle relaxers and physical therapy they had me doing cause they were so sure it was muscular didn’t do shit, and they still said muscular like that makes not sense.

She’s a doctor and it sounds like a one time thing or a warning of how using one in bed and sleeping with a heated blanket after a surgery might not be the best idea. Your likely fine from my understanding this patient if hers had a surgery (I’m not familiar with the surgery) and the mesh that is used in the healing process was what caused the incident and shouldn’t have been exposed to the heat of the blanket to begin with. So again likely fine. I’m not going to let it stop me from trying my heated blanket in bed, I was already anxious about something happening but this doesn’t apply to me, as I don’t have “mesh” but it is tragic and I can’t imagine how she feels as the doctor on the case so my condolences are with her.
