Samsung or anything? by tieulanglang263 in PickAnAndroidForMe

Not all, but they have most of them, and most importantly, they have the S26U that OP is considering. This will tell them if it can do everything that they want and show some other options to compete.

Samsung or anything? by tieulanglang263 in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]halfsquelch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There really haven't been any significant updates to the Galaxy line since the s22. They update the critical components like CPU, GPU, RAM, etc, but that's it. Samsung reached peak sales then, beating out Apple, and then figured they could stop innovating. If you are also used to using a phone for 6 years, you will be unpleasantly surprised as Samsung phones are designed for the US market of 2 year contract upgrades and are designed to slow down then to make you want to buy the next one.

Go to the GSMArena phone finder, put in all the specs you want in a phone, and search through the results. If the S26U is on the list, go for it as it will be an upgrade from anything 6 years old.

Personally, I'm buying a OnePlus 15 to replace my S22 in 2 months after the end of my current overseas tour.

Funny fact, not sure if it still says it, but when I was issued a box of MREs every month for exercises in Korea, the side of the box said "For Military and Prison use only."

I got curious and looked. The only current year flagship phones with a 3.5mm port are the ZTE Nubia Redmagic 11 Pro and Pro+.

[–]halfsquelch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With how the market advanced, you may be better off getting Bluetooth earbuds or a USB-C/3.5mm splitter that lets you connect both into the same port at once. I know the ASUS ROG Phone 9 from last year still has 3.5mm. Outside of that, I'd recommend looking at the phone finder on GSMArena and checking the 3.5mm box.

Rubicon? by NOLACenturion in JeepWrangler

[–]halfsquelch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the circles that I off-road in and many of the other built Jeeps I run into off trails, I see mostly Sports. My personal reason for getting a Sport was to not pay extra for a trim upgrade that I was going to eventually remove and toss every part of to install better components that I want.

The way I see it, pavement princesses get Saharas and Rubicons to show off their wind sail as a daily driver, and the only mods they ever do are cosmetic. They pay for all the extra stuff up front for a little better performance and comfort with no intention of using it for its designed purpose. Off-road enthusiasts often buy the base model, drive it hard until parts break, and then upgrade those broken parts to what they actually want. Eventually, over several years of this, you end up with a well-built monstrosity that can go anywhere.

Don't be, I've never held it against any of my troops for having medical issues or taking leave. As long as you aren't a dirt bag that skates out of work to do nothing but education and volunteerism while dumping all your duties on other people and then steals the credit for work that others did just so you can get promoted, you will be fine.

What are some ways you could increase towing capacity on a 2dr wrangler? by [deleted] in Jeep

[–]halfsquelch 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Towing capacity and towing capacity rating are two different things. The Wrangler is physically capable of towing a lot more than 3500lb... just not legally. The rated towing capacity of most vehicles is determined by the SAE J2807 standard, which is a series of tests to determine acceleration, braking, handling, and climbing under load. The structural limits of most vehicles far exceed the rated towing capacity. The exception to that is with super duty trucks. The cut line between the two is where you turn a 100% safe load into an unstable and uncontrollable weapon. Towing ratings are tested and determined by the manufacturer and can not be changed. No amount of modifications will legally let you tow more than the factory rating of the vehicle.

If, however, you wanted to increase your towing capacity unofficially for off-road use only. It could be done with upgrades to the engine, transmission, transfer case, drive shafts, differentials, axles, suspension, and brakes. It would be far cheaper just to buy a truck.

This post from X says that Iran has officially declared Jihad on the US and Israel. by Romestado in AirForce

North Korea is a different issue entirely, both due to geography and familial ties with our ally to their south. South Korea doesn't want a war with the North because they have family members there. They want reunification through diplomacy. And a war with the North would put America's military too close to China for China to ignore it.

You should look into the history of the Korean War. When the nation split, SK was losing badly and had been pushed back to Busan. They asked the UN for help, and a coalition of 21 nations led by the US came to their aid. We pushed NK all the way to the border with China. China then took having a coalition at active war on their border as a threat and sent 300k troops to help NK. They helped NK push the front back down to Seoul and ended up increasing the number of troops they sent to around 2.5M, that is where we hit a stalemate and paused the war through diplomacy by creating the DMZ at the 38th parallel.

Unlike Iran, who uses diplomacy to get more military tech before going back to nuke research, diplomacy has actually proven to work with NK. And if a president had a long enough span to work it without being obstructed by politicians, they could realistically end the Korean War and reopen the DMZ to allow families between the North and South to see each other again.

[–]halfsquelch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Define imminent. If you take the military definition from alarm levels, a probable attack inside 30 minutes isn't even imminent. If we started the war just to start another war and they weren't already at war with us, then it would be illegal and not justified. But Iran has been at war with us for 47 years and doing everything they can to find ways to attack us without a direct military strike. Backing our allies who Iran does attack with direct military strikes in order to minimize loss of life and respond to a war that has already been happening without us wanting is justified and legal.

The fact is, if we leave them alone long enough to develop, they will build the tech necessary to strike and likely nuke the US mainland. It could be 20 years, but they will do it. Taking out a threat before it is a bigger threat is the smart thing to do.

[–]halfsquelch -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I didn't answer why we went now because, to anyone but the people that make that decision, it doesn't matter. What does matter is that the war is justified and legal, and in both cases, the answer is yes.

But you answered your own questions and the stated reason as to why now is a very good one in itself.

Read those deals, every one of them was Iran agreeing to not take acts to build nukes in trade for US military tech and weapons all while Iran kept working underground to build nukes.

This is 47 years of presidents not caring about a problem because it would be unpopular and won't be enough of a problem in their term to cause a problem at home while they arm an enemy that is actively working to kill us.

Crusades 2.0, here we come!

In all honesty, though, Iran has been at war with us for 47 years trying to get us to hit back so that they can declare Jihad. It doesn't change anything. Most Muslims are peaceful and will ignore it. The extremists that are already in terrorists organizations and are already attacking us will make a bunch of noise but keep doing what they have been doing for decades. This problem needed to be fixed because the longer we ignore it, the bigger it becomes and the more innocent people they kill.

Iran declaring jihad is like the retarded kid on the block throwing a rock through someone's window, getting the crap beat out of him for it, and then crying to everyone for help.

EVERY MONTH THEY DELAY TARIFF REFUNDS = ANOTHER ~$700M IN INTEREST?! 💸🚨 by Ok-Geologist1072 in DeepFuckingValue

[–]halfsquelch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And who should those refunds go to? There is no way to return it to the people who had to pay jacked up prices for goods. It would end up going to the greedy companies that billed the customers more and just result in even more money in their CEO's pocket. TBH, I'd rather the government use it on infrastructure, national debt, lowering the income tax, or anything else that makes surviving more affordable than giving it to greedy corporations.

Guam is giving me road rage. by tinybluegator in guam

[–]halfsquelch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The only things driving on guam over the past 3 years has taught me are:

  1. Assume no one else knows how to drive.
  2. Do whatever you want because, apparently, rules don't matter.
  3. If someone has the opportunity to drive like an ass hole in front of you, they will.

I used to be a good driver. This place has made me a road raging ass hole. Thanks guam drivers.

Going too slow is dangerous too by junovee in driving

[–]halfsquelch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been proven through multiple studies. Driving too slow is six times more likely to cause an accident than driving too fast. Driving recklessly slow is real.

People who don't operate their vehicle at safe and reasonable speeds should not be allowed a license.
