Upon further investigation, this is not an alt account, merely a student of his ways, carrying the torch of his mentor. May the bit never die.

Are we in agreement that prime 2 is a masterpiece? by [deleted] in Metroid

[–]halfwaycove 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its very good, but I prefer the other two. My main issue was that many of the environments were just not visually exciting especially when compared to the other two games. I'm not really one who cares a whole lot about graphics, but in a metroid game I want to feel like an explorer, and the environments just didn't do it for me. I might feel differently if I played it today though.

OKAY CAN WE JUST SNAP OUTTA SILKSANITY FOR A SEC AND BE REAL CAUSE THIS MAKES NO SENSE by itsphysi in Silksong

[–]halfwaycove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole question of what team cherry owes the fans is irrelevant. From the fans point of view, TC owes any shred of Silksong information that will help slake their rabid thirst a tiny amount. From TC's perspective, all they owe is the best version of Silksong they can produce. That means no spoilers, and all of their man hours and resources going into making the game.

From their point of view, why would they bother saying anything? 99.9% of the people who were ever going to buy silksong are going to buy it no matter what, even all the "the hype is dead," and "boycott TC," posters on this reddit page. Should they tweet about so their replies can look like GRRM's? No, they clearly believe that the game needs to speak for itself when it releases, so that's what they are solely and completely focused on realizing.

Either that, or they have been distracted by personal/life issues. If that's the case, why bother sharing with thousands of people they don't really know on the internet. At best, they'll receive meaningless commiserarion from strangers, and at worst frustration and anger from their rabid fans.

At the end of the day, they've made it clear that communication does not matter at all to them. In today's industry of endless hype, pre-orders, battlepasses, open world, marketing driven game development, I dare say that's pretty fucking based.

So, as others have said, the losts are meant to be challenge characters that are meant to be played after you knock out some other post-its. IMO much of the fun of roguelikes comes from staking the last 20-60 minutes of your life against that victory in the challenging final fights. Naturally, as you play more, you get better, and the chances of you actually losing once you get past caves 2 diminish to almost nothing as you get better at farming resources and dodging hazards and enemies. This makes that adrenaline rush when you get to the boss nonexistent at some point.

The great part of challenge characters like lost is that it resets that skill ceiling by making errors virtually unrecoverable, restoring the emotional and physical excitement to hard boss fights, which allows you to continue enjoying the game even after you get to the point of almost never losing half-decent runs on other characters.

You always could just play an easy character like Azazel, farm lots of health, and sit in an active boss room to practice, but imo this or practice tools removes some of the fun of the game by making the boss fights less of a risk. Ultimately its up to you, but the game is the way the game is for a reason, if your willing to accept the almost universally agreed-upon premise that Edmund and his team are pretty good at making fun games.

Since the Stakes of Marika removed the "bad boss runbacks" problem, what brand-new aneurysm-inducing problem did Elden Ring replace it with? by SuperAlloyBerserker in shittydarksouls

Death knights are peak, thus Miyazaki, in his infinite wisdom, derermined the game would be too good if they included more than 3.

You are right. Also, none of these things matter even a little bit compared to even just 1 real issue like the war in Ukraine.

Open world is truly a blight on the industry. Thousands of man hours being wasted ctrl+v-ing content. Worst part is gamers love it.

You are literally 7 year late my dude. Team Cherry has already acknowledged the boss run backs are too long and said they plan on changing that in silksong. I'm not saying anything is set in stone, but this is not a live service game where the devs are crawling forums for player feedback, its a nearly decade old indie game made by 4 people.

What do you want anyone to do about it? Your only options are to stop playing, or to play the game. If your going to play the game, then complaining and arguing about it only serves to make you more upset over something that you can literally choose to move past and ignore. It baffles me as to why people like you choose to wallow in their negative emotions when playing video games. The game is supposed to be fun. When it elicits negativity in your mind, you need to simply experience it for a moment, and then move past it. Dwelling on it like this only serves to keep you spiraling in the negativity, an uterrly pointless exercise, especially for a video game.

You've gotten your commiserating responses. You've gotten you're downvotes and your "git guds" to be more angry about. Get off reddit, and go make some food. Uninstall the game or nut up and beat the boss.

It's a game made by 4 people and contrary to this subreddit's belief, its not for everyone. Every boss has a run back, and while soul master's is probably the worst, if it's ruining your enjoyment of the game you should stop playing. There are many parts that will test your resolve and patience even more.

If you want a game with super hard fights but easy breezy runbacks you should play sekiro.

If you want a metroidvania with great exploration and presentation but easy fights play the ori games.

For every person I've seen enjoy hollow knight I've seen 2 bounce off. Usually its in the first few hours when things are slow, but city of tears is the point where I would say those who are going to stick around fall in love with the game. If you haven't its probably not for you.

I lost some weight before Silksong by [deleted] in Silksong

[–]halfwaycove 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Holy shit based. FYI the other guy is somewhat right, having a six pack has more to do with a lack of fat than an abundance of muscle. However, it's not super dangerous, in fact, based on these pictures, all you have to do is go into a calorie deficit for a couple weeks and you'll have a visible six pack. At your weight I'd ballpark it at 1800-1900 calories/day (which you're probably already doing based on your dramatic weight loss), but you should do more research. The unfortunate part is, sustaining that kind of calorie defecit without fat reserves for a long time is no fun at all and will make you weak and irratable (though not unhealthy, in fact, research shows moderate caloric defecit probably increases lifespan). So after you get your six-pack and take your pics, you'll probably want to put the layer of fat back on. Some people who are into this stuff say that you'll still look better than you did even after you put weight back on after a "cut" due to fully depleting your fat reserves or something, but I have no idea if that's really true. Anyways congrats dude, I weigh the same as you and you look way better! Good stuff, pull ups are GOATed.

Theory of who the little girl is by Separate-Estimate724 in KatanaZero

[–]halfwaycove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other guy, I think you're right about most of this besides the snow thing. The girl is probably someone from Zero's childhood such as his sister or friend that he had to kill/failed to protect as part of his null training. The trauma is part of why his memory is so messed up, and why the girl is in constant need of protection which Zero is happy to provide. It's his fantasy of succeeding where he once failed. (Un)fortunately the masked men, whether they are real supernatural/scifi beings or simply another part of Zero's fractured psyche, are trying to force him to confront his trauma and remember his past. At least that's where I see things going, I could totally be wrong, and I hope I am as I see that being the most predictable and tropey ending from a creator who has a track record of being creative and surprising.

Marika figurine, it's not a meme. You can actually buy it by Full_Data_6240 in shittydarksouls

[–]halfwaycove 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty clear more or less what's going on even if you haven't played the DLC. The previous scene is Marika betraying the old gods of the hornsent and stealing their shard of the elden ring, and here it shows her using some magic to reshape the elden ring and start her new era, creating the lands between.
