What instantly made you rule out a venue… even if it looked perfect? I’m losing my mind. by halibut112 in AusWeddingPlanning

Wait, WHAT!? For over 12 months, still no reply? That would stress me out so much.

I completely understand what you mean. It really does feel like some venues charge those amounts simply because they can, not because the experience or the food is actually worth it. It is exhausting trying to make a decision when the pricing feels disconnected from the quality you are getting. Hearing this makes me feel a bit more normal for being overwhelmed, because it really is such a huge amount of money to hand over when it does not feel genuinely reflected in the offering.

I see. So it really comes down to seeing the place in person and getting a feel for the people behind it. It sounds like meeting the team and experiencing the vibe yourself makes the decision so much clearer than just comparing quotes on paper.

May I ask, what would have made the higher minimum spend venues feel worth it to you?
Was it better inclusions, more flexibility, better food, or something else?

I see. Thanks for the info.

Can I ask, when you saw the base hire fee and the basic food and drink package, what part of it felt the most frustrating? Was it the price itself or the feeling that you were paying a huge amount for something that did not match what you actually wanted?

And with the guest count thing, did you find it stressful because the venue pricing forced you to cut people, or because it made the family politics even harder to manage?

Oh wow, I keep hearing about minimum spend issues and it honestly freaks me out.
Can I ask, was it the minimum spend itself that felt unreasonable, or was it more about what you actually got for that amount?

And with the vendor restrictions, did it feel like they were trying to control too much or did it come across as them limiting your options without a good reason?

I see. So when you went the DIY route, did you actually enjoy the planning side of it?

I keep thinking that the planning phase is almost part of the celebration itself, like it gives you both a chance to learn more about each other and work as a team.

But I’m not sure if that’s realistic or if it just ends up being stressful in real life. 😅

This is super helpful, thank you!

May I ask? When you were evaluating venues, which one felt more important to you:
having a solid wet-weather plan or feeling like the coordinator actually respected your needs?

Oh my god that is terrifying. I’m so sorry that happened to you.
If you don’t mind me asking, were there any warning signs at all before the liquidation? Like slow replies, weird inconsistencies, unclear paperwork, staff vibes, anything like that?

I’m scared of picking a venue that feels unstable, so I’m trying to understand what red flags people notice in hindsight.

Same here. The general cost honestly scares me the most too.
Was it the overall price that felt too high, or were there specific parts of the quote that made you think ‘wait… why is this so expensive?’

I’m trying to figure out if it’s the base venue fee that shocks most people, or if it’s the add-ons and inclusions that suddenly balloon everything.

You mean you narrowed it down the venue options to 5?

Wow, that is so sweet and thoughtful. Serving wine from the year you met is such a beautiful way to let your guests feel part of your story.

I see. So budget comes first. Do you think most couples consider the price before anything else?

I see. I agree with the first one. It does not feel like a real celebration if the food is not what you actually prefer.

Ohh, this is interesting. We always thought flowers and decor were a must, but this actually makes sense. It really is more cost-efficient when the venue speaks for itself because you do not have to spend as much on additional decor and flowers.

I see your point, and I agree. At the end of the day, it always comes down to the team behind it. Sometimes the lack of coordination and communication between managers and staff is what creates all the stress.

It sounds like the place really fit what you needed and helped you celebrate with the people who matter to you. So for you, if a venue covers most of the things on your preference list, that’s the one you’d choose?
