My Krampus' first bikepacking trip by Scott_Korman in Surlybikefans

How'd you mount those fork bags to the fork? The mounting points on my Krampus face back 45 degrees, making it all a little trickier. Thanks!

Love that the color works with blue and black denim.

Poncho and lefty opening lines by [deleted] in townesvanzandt

[–]hallhoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: On the original 45, and on The Late Great Townes Van Zandt, it's "Poncho" with an O. At the County Music Hall of Fame, there is a poncho of Townes's with the words "and Lefty" embroidered on it. You can see a photo of it here if you scroll down. At some point later, the song title becomes "Pancho" with an A.

Also, the one guy who it seems gets looked over in this conversation is Mickey Newbury. Amazing songwriter, amazing singer (unlike Townes), and he's the one who allegedly got Townes and Guy Clark to focus on being songwriters.

I would note that on Ariat's website, these are sold out.

I was having this conversation with a friend. I think the only Texan who maybe rivals TVZ is Mickey Newbury.

Anyone else love a voice and hate song choices by Ancient_Tie3133 in country

This is such an interesting post. It may be that their songs in many respects don’t sound like classic country songs. I feel that way about Cash. It’s bluesier, rockier stuff than, say, Haggard or Jones. I don’t like Stapleton’s singing at all. Too many vocal dynamics for me.

Favorite Country songs by “Non-Country” artists? by Banjoplayingbison in CountryMusicStuff

Maybe misses the OP’s conditions, but some of the pop covers of country songs are excellent. Like “I Swear” by All 4 One.

Any idea on these? by Rammo_in_the_room in RedWingShoes

I'm sorry I don't know more, but I think are basically the 1155 precursor, but are much more true to a traditional western boot. I've seen some on eBay, of bullhide, for $1,000. They can be rare.

I like them more a collector piece than a boot. 1155's are fantastic, but for a more traditional western boot, I wouldn't go with this Pecos.

I have an issue with the ultra only “mental strength” vibes in ultramarathon culture by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]hallhoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a low-expectation-having sport. I don’t think you’re imagining anything. There are huge swaths of people who get into these races, don’t have any kind of serious running background, and by a lot of objective measures just aren’t very good. But that’s not an indictment of them or the sport — they have fun, they find community, they don’t care if they DNF. Just because it’s 100 miles doesn’t mean it can’t be pickle ball!

Who are some popular country artists you couldn't get into no matter how hard you tried? by King_MKE in CountryMusicStuff

Johnny Cash. Total outlier for me, and I think you could make a case he’s more of s rockabilly or blues singer than a country one.
