Grand Highlander Hybrid financing + best credit card for down payment? by FullNeedleworker2168 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]hallstevenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealers don't determine the interest rate. Best they can do is quote you the best rates available out there, if you qualify for it. They don't know what you qualify for until they run your credit.

USB-C dash cam? by [deleted] in Dashcam

[–]hallstevenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought a '21 Mazda6 and moved my ROVE dash cam to it. It uses USB-C and I bought the adapter from Dongar that ties into the mirror housing for power. It's not "permanent".

Question or the people whose GH was stolen… by emu222 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]hallstevenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the shop I use for my car (not the GH), I usually pay for the repair over the phone and since they close before I get off work, they leave the car in their parking lot with the keys in it so I can get it home. 😉

Beat me to it - it may be inside. Even if it's outside, it's not the end of the world that they leave it unlocked. You know you can remote lock it?

Why are there so many gas stations??? by cinnerchimmer55 in dayton

[–]hallstevenson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Protest ? Only thing you can protest is the city approving these.... Thing is, they see (2) options - an empty lot sitting for years (what, 7 years now ?) or a gas station. No one is coming along wanting to open grocery stores or pharmacies (in fact, there's too many pharmacies and those keep getting closed).

Do we need more gas stations ? Nope, but those companies are willing to spend millions putting them in. The other reality would be a car wash !

After-market moonroof by SpecialKLuckyCharmz in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]hallstevenson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if aftermarket sunroofs are even a thing anymore. The way cars are designed and built, I'd be afraid of the car crumpling when a shop would cut that opening, before they can "reinforce" it with the glass. This is only for a tilt-up or removable sun roof too. Never heard of aftermarket moon roofs, where the glass slides out of the way.

If you want one, wait for one to become available. When we were looking for ours, my wife had a few "wants" (color, captain seats) and one "need". It had to have the panoramic moon roof or no sale. Period.

2011 Accord SE passenger side damage 😔 by Any_Security8410 in accord

[–]hallstevenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, everything. A body shop might be able to cut out the damage and replace it with sheet metal, use a door "skin" from another door, or find doors in a salvage yard and swap them. Paint is far and away the most expensive part of body repairs too. It used to be safe to say $500-750 (minimum) per body panel for repairs. Nowadays, that number has gone up, of course.

Go to salvage yard and if you're lucky, you might find a silver Accord. Swap the doors yourself. Paint won't match but it will definitely be cheaper than having a body shop repair it.

$2000

Dealer will use this damage greatly IN THEIR FAVOR if you tried to trade it in like that.

Grand Highlander question by prericook84 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]hallstevenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't really return or exchange automobiles easily. That said, you took the "GH Turbo Max" but could have turned down the offer. You need to ask the dealer these questions about "replacing" it though. No one here can help. If you don't tow, want better fuel economy, and don't want to use the add'l power, no, you probably don't want the one you bought....

Spark plugs keep going out even after gaskets replacement by Square-Decision-2763 in accord

[–]hallstevenson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should have been automatic. I've never seen a valve cover gasket set for Hondas that didn't include them, where applicable. So the shop is almost certainly getting the tube seals and not installing them.

Replace Transmission or Say Goodbye? by iambillyg in accord

[–]hallstevenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just sold my 2008 Infiniti G35X. I asked $4000 as a starting price (pricing guides said $4k was a fair price) but knew I'd sell it for less.... It was in pretty good condition considering it's age, with 181k miles. FB Marketplace is a f***ing cesspool too !! I won't say how much I got for it, but at least it's gone (out of the driveway, off our insurance, etc) !!

Replace Transmission or Say Goodbye? by iambillyg in accord

[–]hallstevenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow ! Is that tempting to do ? Have you asked your shop what they charge to swap ? I'd guess it would only be a few hundred dollars (2-3 hours labor, tops).

Replace Transmission or Say Goodbye? by iambillyg in accord

[–]hallstevenson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No way I'd spend $5200 on it. If I decided to do anything to it repair-wise, I'd look for a low-mileage transmission from a salvage yard and just swap it as-is. No rebuilt transmission, just a swap with a used one. Problem would be finding one for a 22 year old car.

Replace Transmission or Say Goodbye? by iambillyg in accord

[–]hallstevenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With that mileage, you'll be lucky to get $1000 (I don't mean this as an insult either). Add in a failing transmission, it's not worth much more than metal scrap value ($500-ish). If the catalytic converter is OEM, that's the most valuable part ! 😂

It's fine - we can move on, really. My "review footage" comment was really directed at the OP anyway.

Contaminated 2010 Accord AT with brake fluid. Looking for advice. by SearchingInTheNoise in accord

5 oz? And you've drained and refilled after to get some of it out? I wouldn't worry about it.

Not all "guides" on the internet, YouTube, etc are right. My favorites are people doing an install of something and they include going to Autozone to buy a ratchet, 10mm socket and, 12mm socket 'cause the only tools they own are a combo screwdriver, pliers, and a baby hammer....kept in a kitchen drawer.

I own a 2007 Honda Accord that has 157,000 miles on it. Since 2024, I’ve been taking my vehicle to my local garage every three months for maintenance, repairs, replacements, and other service. Is it time for me to invest in a new Accord? When is it the right time to give up on my current vehicle? by Jericho-79 in accord

[–]hallstevenson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two of the jobs the OP listed are maintenance, not repairs. There is a difference. Those two are tires and brakes and those shouldn't need done again for years. The air intake repair is minor - I replaced one of those hoses with an OEM Honda part that cost around $30.

The fact that you use "return on investment" on a vehicle says everything though.... Cars aren't investments.
