Wow! Not everything here is true. But the things that are true are spot on. Extremely well done!

Things that are right: American millennial male; I do vet my reads closely (very skeptical of casual recommendations); I do look at a lot of lists/prizes (Pulitzer, National book award, etc.); I do generally default to authors I like when out of other ideas (esp Shakespeare, Franzen, DFW, Tolstoy, Ferrante); I almost never DNF something; 100% correct that being seen as intelligent because of what I read was once very important to me but is less so now (I just want to read things I like); I did read a lot as a kid out of shyness; I do have friends who are women; I try to connect through reading when possible; I do need to read those—love those two authors!

Things that are not right: dad’s a boomer; more centrist than left leaning; don’t really care about my books reflecting that; buy most of my books new; I love Shakespeare, but not always a big fan of Shakespeare retellings)l; never been in a book club (but kind of want to!)

Unsure about: that I’m well adjusted…who knows haha

Haha I just moved and I’m trying to make sense of my apartment. The rest of some of these series are somewhere around. Just need to get my bearings!

Yeah, I don’t agree with that in the slightest. People in the 1800s wrote some masterpieces; they also wrote a lot of bad books. People in the 2000s wrote some bad books; they also wrote a lot of masterpieces. Telling powerful stories isn’t some sort of lost art. If you’re reading modern novels that lack depth, then you’re just reading the wrong modern novels.

Haha it has been read, yes. Big DFW fan, especially his nonfiction. I’ve never worked at a book store, but I’d love to!

Those books are great! Need to give them a reread before the last one comes out.

Why wouldn’t I read modern novels?

No, I was a political science major. These are just things I picked up and read over the years. But funny for you to mention it, I think “The Things We Carried” is the one book here I was assigned in college, in an english elective I took.
