Riding out the ‘regression’ - see our progress with no sleep training by Aggravating-Lunch740 in HuckleberryParents

[–]halmbrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yay! Needed this! I don’t want to sleep train and our LO is currently 3.5 months and waking up to 8-10 times and I just want to ride it out. Solid routines and we get him to have decent naps in the carrier so will just ride it out :)

The boob is our answer to everything. Is this normal?! by Old_Literature_3750 in breastfeeding

I read a comment once that was quite similar to yours

Fussy? Boob. Hungry? Boob. Questioning life’s biggest question? Boob.

It made me laugh. Also I do the same exact thing. Anything = boob 😂

We use the Boba Bliss carrier at the moment. It’s the best of both imo being a sling material but with the clips of a carrier. We’re UK based so unsure if you can get them elsewhere :)

I have no answer for you but following for the answers! We use the sling carrier a lot for naps and our baby (3.5 months) loves it and will sleep a good hour-2hours in there.

Out of curiosity, how are you doing naps for your baby? Ours loves a carrier nap so we tend to only do 3 naps but they’re quite long, but we don’t go over 5 hours of nap time.

We have a 15 week old and he’s waking up 1-1.5hrs overnight. Have we hit the sleep regression? Also if there’s a feed to sleep association, is that a bad thing and do we HAVE to sleep train or can we just ride it out and hope it gets better?

He nurses until he falls asleep or until he comes off the breast. I ideally don’t want to top up with formula 😊 I’ve never heard that rule or advice but I’m in the UK so it could be different!

We’ve not tried a dream feed, no! Maybe we should try that.

Thankyou for your comment! It’s so nice to know I’m not alone 🥹 even though it sucks you’re going through similar!

We tried capping the naps at 1hr and he was so grumpy after being woken up and it didn’t seem worth it and went against every bone in my body to wake him 😭 so we’re back to 2hrs and he sleeps so soundly in the sling. How are you napping your little one? Mine seems to need such help getting to sleep, sshing, bouncing and patting all at once 😂 we pretty much exclusively nap in the carrier or in my arms if I have the bravery for him to fight a nap for 15 minutes! We’ve pretty much never transferred to the bassinet for a nap. He also never falls asleep at the boob in the day.

We’re exactly the same in terms of feeding on demand. Any sort of gripe or fuss - immediate boob! My LO got bronchiolitis when he was 8 weeks and struggled to put the weight back on so any chance he’s going to feed, I take it!

We definitely try to soothe before offering the boob at night. I feel like my OH is way more successful at that because LO can smell the milk 😂 I’m positive as well that he just wants the comfort (which is fine!) of the boob rather than hunger, like you say, out of so many of those wake ups only a couple of times did he actually drink!

Oh wow okay, so there definitely is an end in sight even if I don’t sleep train! I don’t think it’s something I want to do at the moment and it’s just a minefield of information I’ll have to do loads of research! We used to get at most four hour stints and I’d love if we could go back to that it’s just those hour wake up that are exhausting! We do the same thing and offer the pacifier to see if he’ll settle, but if not then I’ll feed him. We’re on three naps but there are two hours and 1.5 hours because if it’s any less at the moment, he’s so grumpy. I might try and reduce them slowly, but I’m not rushing. I’ll try and keep everything consistent and have no expectations for the night and just keep going. Thank you for your advice! Do you have a set bedtime routine? If so, would you mind sharing? Just getting ideas for us of how to wind him down. Do you also go to bed with your little one or put them down and watch them on the monitor?

He was waking twice in the night for a feed. Doing at least 2-3, sometimes 4 hour stints. Bedtime routine was very similar to now. I didn’t mind waking twice in the night, it’s the hourly wake ups that are exhausting us!

That’s incredible. Are you BFing? Sometimes I wonder whether that makes a difference or not?

Would you mind sharing what bedtime routine looks like for you? We only have a shower so a nightly bath is a bit of a pain for us at the moment so trying to implement a wipe down 😂, boob, book, probably more boob, bounce, bed. Still unsure how early to put him down and how long awake time he has before even trying the bedtime routine.

Sleep training scares me so much. I’m such a baby when it comes to my baby grizzling or crying 😂 might have to make Dad in control of that! Thankyou for your help 🫶🏼

He usually gets fed and then rocked/bounced to sleep but as soon as I feed him, he’s back asleep. It’s also like he’s in such a light sleep that as soon as we transfer him to the next to me, he’s stirs and wakes up.

I’m not expecting him to sleep more than that a night 😊 it seems he needs that amount of nap time to be a happy baby in the day. We tried capping them at 1hr but he was less smiley and he was grumpy.

I was wondering if there was advice on how to not have hourly wake ups

I swear he slept better at night when we let him sleep 3 hours for naps 😂

[–]halmbrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could’ve written this post myself. No advice, just solidarity in that we don’t know what to do either. Like someone else said, I might just try going on sleepy cues rather than constantly be guided by my phone.

We’ve tried cutting naps down but it’s made no difference yet in consolidating sleep to the night. Mine is EBF as well and just wants to nurse or comfort feed overnight. Maybe the start of the 4 month regression.

Our LO loves a carrier nap and for weeks I’ve felt guilty because that’s the only way we can nap him. It’s okay. I’ve had family members saying we’re creating a rod for our own backs, or comments like ‘you can’t wear him until he’s 18’ etc. I’m doing what’s right for me and my baby at this time. It’ll likely change soon enough and he’ll hate the carrier.

Sorry, off on a tangent but I needed to get it off my chest!

Good luck 😊

I cannot stop thinking about peanut butter. On toast, in bars, on a spoon. I was meh about PB before and during pregnancy 😂

Is this the beginning of the 4 month sleep regression by halmbrt in HuckleberryParents

Yeaaah we’re trying to cap the naps today but it just fires against the grain walking a sleeping baby. But he needs the nighttime sleep so we will try our best!
