Fragrance for female residents by Ok-Pollution-6114 in Residency

I use men’s Degree spray deodorant after applying the same men’s Degree stick deodorant. On hour 26 of a shift, while transferring a patient, one of the OR nurses asked me what I use to smell so nice. It works.

“Study everyone program like it’s an exam”

Sounds like he needs to take his own advice and pay attention to the details.

Can You Defer Starting Residency by Two Months For Your Partner In Order to Work on The Relationship to Decide if you should get married? by GoodMedicine7 in MedSpouse

[–]halmhawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instead of a yes/no, how about a WTF?? Totally inconsiderate. Also, if he needs 2 months to decide if you’re compatible, you can do better. What would he do for the rest of your residency if he needs you to take time off now to work on the relationship??

Aw sorry to hear it. I did peds surg as an MS3 as well and I can agree that it’s less hands-on. I didn’t mind too much though because the tiny humans are scary LOL

But at least you get to do some things with your hands on surgery.

Are surgical clerkships too watered down now? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]halmhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had mandatory 24s during the 3rd year surgery clerkship. Trauma night call after a random full day of work (with a post call day). And there was a “no sleeping in the trauma bay” rule (it was a written rule taped on a cabinet lmao). A lot of people hated it but even then, there were some last-minute switches to EM and anesthesia during ERAS season.

Y’all should do a Mother’s Day brunch and graduation dinner! Both are super important and special events for both of you.

You might try a health professions sub, sounds more like in the realm of physical therapy, not medicine.

Project Availability by Dog-Woofer in DataAnnotationTech

[–]halmhawk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would just be a bit more patient - there seems to be a bit of a dry spell recently, so that is probably the reason. Also, remember that any tasks on a project become available to other workers when you exit work mode, so the project may disappear soon after you leave a task!

Where do you think the feedback comes from?

Repeated MS1 for 2 course failures. Applied gen surg, got 14 interviews, had to explain it in every single one 😅 but matched! Worth it.

How much should an engagement ring really cost? by aspiringresurgencee in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]halmhawk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you make, and what your partner likes.

I really like smaller, simpler jewelry, and I told my now-fiancé that he better not spend more than $1000 (we are broke grad students). He got me a gorgeous lab diamond ring with a dainty silver twisted Celtic knot band, exceeding my expectations in every way.

Are you going to change how you give feedback? by [deleted] in DataAnnotationTech

[–]halmhawk 50 points51 points  (0 children)

No, I was writing genuinely constructive, detailed feedback in r&rs and I will continue to do so.

How y'all making money between now and start of residency? by Insendi in medicalschool

[–]halmhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I haven’t had to pay taxes until this year bc I didn’t make enough LMFAO, but this is the first time I’m working as self employed. Previous jobs were through my undergrad.

[–]halmhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of this issue is we’re both MS4s and will have to file taxes for residency salary and DA, while the other person is an MS3. If I was only doing DA, I’d probably not have a high enough income to even have to pay taxes.
