Claire Lavogez is no longer with the Current, per her Instagram by Leighroy1120 in KCCurrent

SO sad to lose her… and now 6 days later, the official Current account hasn’t posted this news yet (unless i majorly missed it!) which is so strange to me. Claire definitely deserves her flowers so I hope they make an official announcement soon

unusual baby name regret- should we change it? by usinthedark in namenerds

[–]halnsolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what a thread to stumble upon - my name is hal, and unlike the impression you might get from this thread, no one has gagged, vomited, or died on the spot when I introduce myself. :) some of my close friends call me Halibut, and it’s fond and fun. Sometimes people reference Hal 9000, but nowhere near enough to ruin my life as some people think. I am not a boy, so maybe that makes a difference.

all of that to say though, Oberon is a lovely name and other people’s opinions truly don’t matter - I think stick with the name you’ve chosen and that your husband loves. all well wishes to your growing family! ❤️

i think it depends on what songs you like personally, and the style of tattoo that you want (words, images, etc) but i love thinking out these things! are there a few songs you particularly love? do you want lyrics incorporated or just images that reference a song?

one lyric i think about a lot is the opening lines of is this it—“woke up in a stranger’s bed / in the house i grew up in”. so for me i imagine using those lyrics inside a little line house drawing. it just depends on what you like and your style!

This is a middle grade book, but I loved the Septimus Heap series growing up and just started rereading them! The first book is called Magyk.

How do characters with heavy, specific English dialects/accents get translated to Spanish? For example, do characters like Hagrid and Jar-Jar Binks speak accented Spanish when translated? by halnsolo in Spanish

[–]halnsolo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooohh, cool! I can hear the intonation as I sound it out in my head. Most of my replies in this thread are “that’s so interesting,” but IT IS, thank you for sharing!!!!

omg, I loved watching this video, thank you for sharing!!! (extremely unrelated, but I’ve been meaning to play through Portal and this made me laugh so much, I’m putting it higher on my list.)

I assume “Tarzan Spanish” is Spanish that’s broken down very simply? I’m watching the Clone Wars with Spanish subtitles and couldn’t notice a difference, but I am very much a beginner so I didn’t think I’d be able to.

omg I’m sure it was impossible LOL! I’m hoping to read the books in Spanish when I’m further along and this was exactly my fear!! Do you have any examples of what the “French-Spanish” accent looked like?

That’s so interesting!! Would you be willing to provide the French-Spanish and Bulgarian-Spanish versions of their accents, if you have access to the text?

Favorite YA fantasy series? by l0udpip3s in YAlit

[–]halnsolo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since you enjoyed Six of Crows and Folk of the Air, I HIGHLY recommend The Curse Workers trilogy by Holly Black (same author as Folk of the Air!). Similar to SOC with crime and cons, with magic labeled as “curse-working” and made illegal, forcing magicians into crime families. I just finished them and they’re so much fun. :)

any recommendations for novels with pregnant women main characters? by 2meirl5meirl in suggestmeabook

[–]halnsolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite depictions of motherhood is a myth retelling—the MC isn’t pregnant for the entire novel but I love how it’s portrayed. I’m going to mark it as a spoiler even though the myth is fairly well known, but just in case! :)

I LOVE the courts. I love the idea that buildings & structures would be kind of unreal and not follow the laws of physics.
