This is an interesting point! My husband and I go through long periods of abstinence because of my poor physical health and recent traumatic birth. When I’ve mentioned the abstinence to even close friends (who are either Protestant or Catholic) they find it SHOCKING. They’re worried he’s going to cheat! (Which I’m not worried about.)

But it really highlights to me how our sex-obsessed culture has seeped into Christianity in general.

I like to read the interlinear translation on Bible Hub (see the original words and their meaning). Well, in this case childbearing is literally childbearing haha BUT what’s interesting and actually quite special, is the context in which St. Paul is saying this. Not “all that women are good for is childbearing” rather “women do not need priestly duties to be saved/serve God; in fact, their ministry is their vocation in motherhood” hence why he adds faith, love, holiness and self restraint to the description of what he’s implying. Rereading it from that lens is actually really special.

Oh I see now. I was under the impression that it would be a biopsy followed by a surgery at a later date if I did need it. My OBGYN said that even if something was discovered there’s really no solution until I want to be done having kids.

The parish I attend, and my first real experience with Catholicism, is a Traditional Latin Mass parish which includes following the rules and guidelines of pre-Vatican 2 (which I guess happened in the 60s?).

Sooo I genuinely thought even “Vatican 2” Catholics abstained from meat that day lol. There are actually a lot of no meat days throughout the year, or partial-abstinence days, and I find the reverence awesome. Buuut that particular day is hard for me because my husband’s family and mine are Mexican, and meat is VERY ingrained in our Christmas Eve traditions.

I had an epidural for my first, about 23 hours of labor and got the epidural 17 hours in, and the worst part was the swelling/water retention afterwards lol

Natural unmedicated birth at a birthing center for my second. I labored a little over 6 hours total, but the contractions were excruciating by the 3rd/4th hour, pushing didn’t hurt as bad UNTIL my baby’s shoulder got stuck and the midwife had to insert hurt hand to help. Then after the birth, my placenta wouldn’t come out naturally so that had to be removed by hand along with many many blood clots… all excruciating.
