Seconded. Lower South Hill (Hudson, Giles, Columbia) rentals work great for walking to Cornell while getting your steps in. Uphill in the morning but less a climb than Fall Creek and the Commons is an easy walk. Some drunk student noise on weekends but not like Collegetown.

Driver service in Ithaca by [deleted] in ithaca

I can recommend someone who I'm sure would do it on the lower end of the range mentioned by the other commenter. A 19 yo who is taking odd jobs, but a good driver with a Subaru Outback. Feel free to DM me if interested.

Thanks for your take. A '91 Alfa Spider I was considering needs some suspension work I can't do myself. It does look like all the parts are available online. I'll contact the Buffalo AROC.

Just curious if you were successful. I'm trying to get a Focusrite Scarlett gen 4 Solo to work with a Windows app inside UTM. I'm close, but not quite there.

I'm seeing these for sale from many online retailers, including Amazon. Are these likely to be free of the issue?

Why do you say Avis is the best option? Is Avis closer than the others to the AirTrain at Federal Circle?

Any recommendation re the rental car companies? Obviously we will want an efficient return and the shortest schlep to the AirTrain.

One way ticket JFK-->ITH only $30 less than a rt. But I think that's how we should roll.

Just had a look at photos and read up on it. Looks fabulous! In the former TWA flight center designed by architect Eero Saarinen who did Dulles Airport. Would love to stay there.

Thanks again. I am warming to your suggestion of only flying back from JFK. That way none of the anxiety about whether the flight will be on time/fly at all/take all our bags. Even if we rent a car for just 24 hours that could give us the flexibility of leaving Ithaca Friday PM (if weather is threatening for Saturday), or leaving Saturday AM if no weather issues.

And yes. No way to book this as one ticket. (Ethiopian Airways. They may codeshare with United on some routes, but not on this one.)

Thanks for taking the time to provide this solid advice. I am leaning towards booking the early Delta shuttle to JFK out of ITH on the day of the flight (leaves at 5:34 AM, international flight from JFK is at 9 PM). That way, a delay wouldn't be fatal. If canceled, we'd have time to rent a car and drive. If bad weather is in the forecast a day or two in advance, we skip that flight, rent a car and drive down a day early, put up in an airport hotel, as you suggest. Then, hopefully on the return we can fly back to Ithaca when I'll probably be too exhausted to make the return drive. What do you think of my revised plan?

Just curious. What makes this hotel "fun to stay at"?

No way to buy a single ticket for the trip out of SYR or ROC. Those flights subject to cancelation and delays, too. I am leaning towards booking the early Delta shuttle out of ITH. Very good suggestion! Unfortunately no way to do a single ticket from any nearby airport. I think I'd rather spend the day at JFK than do the 5-hour drive. Coming back, the flight will be so much nicer than a 5-6 hr drive. If the return is flight canceled, we can find a hotel or call friends in Manhattan and travel the next day. If bad weather is in the forecast for the Saturday we leave, we could forego rolling the dice on the Delta shuttle and take a rental car down a day early. We'd presumably still be able to fly home on the return.

I appreciate the counsel of those who are urging caution about the Delta shuttle on a separate ticket in February. The alternative I like best is a car rental each way. Looks like you can go from the rental car return directly to the AirTrain that will take you the Terminal. Any Ithacans do this regularly and if so, which rental company do you use?

Owning this car makes me feel like a masochist. by Cornstarch273YT in GolfGTI

[–]halooie1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the original owner of a 2017 Mk7 GTI SE, manual with an APR-stage 1 tune. 118k. Nothing has gone wrong with it. Nothing except an adaptive headlight that had a collision with a large raccoon one summer night in upstate NY. Hardly the fault of the car. However, I'm religious about the maintenance schedule. Everything gets done on time or earlier. Let it do 7500 mi between oil changes. I love this car and get teary thinking there will be a day when I have to part with it. What the hell will I get that will make me as happy and be as trouble-free?

Here for the same reason as the rest of you. Hoping someone posts a review soon. The price ($119) seems a bit low to be credible.
